Chapter 802: Volume 24 Continuous Camps of Beacon Fires Chapter 13 Complete Victory
When thirty Earthwalking Dragons entered the fray with heavy steps, it signaled that the conclusion of the battle was imminent. The scale of war, previously in a deadlock, immediately tipped in favor of the Caucasus side at this moment.
Three Earthwalking Dragons formed a single attack vanguard, while thirty Earthwalking Dragons created ten such vanguards. With increasing speed, the Earthwalking Dragons, wrapped in thick scales, charged towards the Homer camp like moving strongholds gone mad.
The task of leading naturally fell to Shatima, who had volunteered for the role. Seeing dozens of massive reptiles clustered behind her, Shatima felt little sense of accomplishment. Leading such a group of crawlers to charge was an insult to the noble dignity of the Ice Dragon, but this was not the time to compare bloodlines; it was a crucial moment to break the enemy lines. Although Shatima was simple-minded, she still understood the priorities, especially after being repeatedly reminded by Komer.
A bizarre scene unfolded: a beautiful war goddess in heavy armor outran thirty Earth Dragon Warriors, holding in her hand a Dragon Spear not inferior to those held by the Earth Dragon Warriors. Her running speed was comparable to the enhanced pace of the Earth Dragrons; this sight would stun anyone who saw it, including the Barbarians and Half-Beastmen watching from the sides.
The Barbarian and Half-beast formations, already instructed, opened up numerous fractures, following Shatima’s lead. The Earth Dragon Warriors, urging on the Earthwalking Dragons, stormed through these openings and trampled into the Homer camp. The enormous Dragon Spears, waved vigorously by the Warriors, stirred up swirls of blood mist. No one could withstand this earth-splitting strike; not the knights nor the warriors could counter this overwhelming surge. The giant bodies of the Earthwalking Dragons became a nightmare for the Homer knights and warriors. Whether it was combat knives or knight spears, they could only leave trivial marks on the dragons, whose smooth and thick scales served as an indestructible protective layer. Except for a few targeted attacks by knights that caused the Earthwalking Dragons to bleed, most physical attacks were futile as if scratching itching through shoes.
Duke Philip and Carl • Libukneisi watched this scene in shock. The swarming Earthwalking Dragons instantly broke the stalemate between the two sides, scattering Homer’s line in an instant. The morale-boosted Barbarian and Half-beast armies then charged like a breached dam, spiraling towards the now crumbling Homer camp.
Adjusting his armor, Carl • Libukneisi gently lifted his great sword. The situation was irreversibly changed; he still hadn’t seen any sign of the Nirvana Knights. If the Galleians had betrayed Homer, it meant they were stuck, unable to breakthrough. But now none of that mattered, even if the Nirvana Knights showed up, it was too late. The Homer camp had completely collapsed, and no one’s arrival could reverse this defeat.
"Duke, please leave first, let me hold them off for you," Carl’s face showed a divine dignity that left the confused Philip at a loss for words.
"Carl, what are you doing? Have we already lost?" Philip murmured, then realized how naive his question was.
"Duke, we have lost. The Galleians did not join the battle as expected. We don’t know what happened to them, but even their presence now would be useless," Carl • Libukneisi took a deep breath, donned his helmet, his face solemn. "We have done our best. We, the Homer warriors, did not retreat, did not flee."
"Lost?" Philip also murmured to himself, "What should we do now?"
"Duke, you best go to Galle or Silesia now. Only there might you have a chance to make a comeback. Cyprus is already indefensible," Carl • Libukneisi sighed regretfully, unsure whether Galle and Silesia would continue to support Homer under these circumstances.
When the Nirvana Knights finally broke through the disturbances posed by the Thunder Peng Knights and stepped onto the battlefield, all that awaited Cooklin and his men was devastation, corpses and banners everywhere, and several riderless horses running aimlessly about. In the distance, one could vaguely see the Caucasus Bear Head Flag fluttering, while a few infantry formations appeared to have been waiting for the Nirvana Knights’ arrival, and upon spotting them, began to slowly advance in their direction.
"What’s happened? Has Homer lost?" Falcon asked in surprise, somewhat incredulous that the Homer people could collapse so quickly. Given that they were supported by the Nicosia Court Knights and the Church of Light’s magicians, and had deployed all their armed forces, could it really have ended in just a few short hours?
"There could only be this one explanation." Cooklin said helplessly, watching the Barbarian Infantry Formation with high morale approaching his side. He shook his head. Continuing the war had lost all its meaning now. Duke Zellin had instructed him to clearly understand the situation and avoid unnecessary sacrifices, meaning that if the Homer People were worthy of help, then naturally their existing system should be maintained. But if even the foundation no longer existed, Galle had no obligation to make needless sacrifices for them.
"What should we do?" Falcon seemed to understand the implications in Cooklin’s words and asked with a slight frown.
"Retreat slowly, withdraw from the battlefield first, then clarify the situation. If things are as we suspect, we can then return home," Cooklin stated calmly, "I think our journey should probably come to an end."
"Cooklin, we can’t do this! Those folks from Caucasus can’t possibly defeat the Homer People so easily. We can try to defeat the trash in front of us, then decide our next move," Sate said, suppressing the frustration in his heart, word by word. "How could those inferior races from Caucasus possibly defeat the regular army of Homer? It’s just an appearance."
"I’m sorry, Sate, but your judgment has been clouded by emotions. Maybe the inferior races of Caucasus are far behind us mortals in terms of civilization, but victory on the battlefield is not solely determined by the level of civilization, something we all understand. The scene before us has already proven that those inferior races have defeated the Homer mortals. Galle cannot possibly shed blood and sacrifice for the Homer People who are already unable to sustain themselves, as it is worthless," Cooklin sharply observed his impulsive companion, Sate. He was too obsessed with his feelings for Princess Vero, even ignoring everything around him, which is not a quality a knight should possess.
"Cooklin, you are being cowardly and fearful of the enemy!" Sate glared intensely at him.
"Say what you will, but it is not possible for the Nirvana Knights to make senseless sacrifices for this war," Cooklin replied calmly, ignoring the provocation. "Falcon, order the front troops to change to the rear. We’re withdrawing from the battlefield!"
Fran had not relaxed until the Nirvana Knights fully vanished from the horizon. Caucasus had won the final victory! The Homer Camp completely collapsed under the charge led by the Earth Dragon Warriors commanded by Shatima. The Homer infantry was the first to break, and the Homer Knights were helpless to reverse the situation. Lecler managed to escape from the battlefield at the last minute after breaking free from Vladirmir Koff’s entanglement, while Bronin barely escaped, paying a heavy price, and the Frost Arrival from Solonberg nearly froze him, the final blow forcing him to flee, bleeding.
As the Lily Flag, representing Duke Philip, began its withdrawal first, the entire Homer Camp started to waver. For Philip, since defeat was inevitable, he had to consider how to manage the aftereffects. Preserving his own forces might be the only option, but for the troops on the battlefield, a defeat like a crumbling mountain made it not so easy to withdraw from the battlefield simply.
A large number of Homer infantry started to flee, while the knights tried to maintain their dignity. Their stubborn resistance caused significant losses to the Caucasus side, but they all ultimately had to retreat completely, or more accurately, collapse. They had lost the capacity to fight any further. If it weren’t for the limited mobility of the Caucasus side, the Homer knights would definitely not have escaped from the battlefield so easily.
The Royal Court Magicians finally overcame the Skeleton Battle Team led by the Black Warrior, but they did not do so without paying a price; two mages and three magicians were gravely injured in the battle. Onia could only endure the humiliation and lead the Royal Court Magicians in retreat, while the fight between the Light Knights and the Giant Zombie concluded with the Light Knights’ disgrace even though Onia had provided tremendous help. The formidable strength of the Giant Zombie gave the Light Knights a hard time, leaving two of them severely wounded in the battle.
Of the Three Saints, besides Salianco carrying the nearly dead Maldono along with the Royal Court Magicians in retreat, Saint Iliana mysteriously disappeared, which greatly anxious Onia and Salianco. Nobody knew how Iliana could suddenly vanish; she had been on the battlefield until the most intense moments of the war, but during the retreat, Iliana was nowhere to be found. There were no signs of her having encountered any Barbarians or the Undead. Onia and Salianco also didn’t believe the undead could harm Iliana in such a short time, but where had Iliana gone?
