Chapter 792: Volume 24 Beacon Fire Linking Camps Chapter 5 Minor Setback

A thousand meters, five hundred meters, three hundred meters, the knights who had already entered the charge phase began to consciously control their speed and frequency. They needed to maintain a relatively complete formation for the assault, while the Barbarian Soldiers under their sturdy armor halted their steps and embedded their Tower Shields firmly into the mud. Sharp spears protruded through the gaps of the shields, forming a dense spear forest, ready to face the first wave of the knights’ attack.

Lecler cautiously signaled to Bronin to slow down and steady their footing to accumulate as much power as possible. They deliberately reduced their speed just to wait for the hidden Royal Court Magicians behind them to give these unprepared Barbarians an impressive show. Only by using this method could they make these inferior species understand why Mortals deserved to stand at the pinnacle among the races of the Continent and also make them realize that inferior races would always be inferior, unable to forget themselves due to a moment of luck!

The dark clouds had quietly formed above the Battlefield. Komer and Mihailovich noticed the anomaly immediately. They stealthily lurked behind the Infantry Formation, observing this change. Following closely behind them, Clarence and Sheferley looked slightly pale. After learning about the involvement of the Three Saints of the Church of Light and that the Nicosia Court Mage Group would be joining the battle, both of them had been restless. However, holding on to the dignity of mages, they still participated in this war. Even when facing a formidable enemy, a mage would not abandon their promise, which is the fundamental survival rule of a mage.

"Thunderclouds?!" Mihailovich’s brows furrowed, "Sir, are those guys going to launch a thunder-based magic?"

"Hmph, not just thunder-based magic, but a thunder-based combination magic comparable to a Thunder Magic Array!" Komer’s face was also overcast. "This bunch really knows their stuff about Barbarians and Half-Beastmen; they even knew to use thunder-based magic against them!"

"Sir, both the Barbarians and Half-Beastmen have undergone training under various types of magic, but they still can’t withstand the blows of magic that are too strong. We have to stop their actions!" Mihailovich said sternly.

"That’s unlikely. A thunder-based combination magic isn’t something you and I can stop. This type of combination magic is effectively equivalent to a small-scale magic array. Moreover, it forms quickly and is convenient for rapid deployment. However, it requires mages who are familiar with each other and whose mana is interconnected to coordinate the casting, and they perfectly meet these conditions." Komer shook his head. "Now we can only hope that our warriors can withstand this first strike! We still need to act according to our pre-established plan!"

"Clarence!" Komer raised his voice.

"Sir." Clarence gritted his teeth and hurried over.

"Start the incantation, prepare the Earth’s Rift, I’ll assist you!" Komer’s eyes began to turn slightly red. If they were going to play, they’d play hard, to see who could last until the end!

"As you command, Sir." Clarence gasped in shock. The lord was too domineering, demanding him right away to perform the highest realm of his best earth-based magic, Earth’s Rift, which he had successfully cast only twice in his life, both times with the help of powerful magic scrolls. He had never tried to cast it alone. But seeing Komer with his hands already raised in front of his chest, a strange halo beginning to form, Clarence was terrified. Could this be the Divine Radiance from White Magic?

At this moment, Clarence had no time to think further. He gently bit the tip of his tongue, letting the taste of blood help keep his mind calm to prevent magic power rebound due to excessive mana expenditure. He wasn’t ready to gamble with his life before being certain of this Lord’s power. A failed spell was troublesome but not fatal. However, if he were to suffer from mana distortion, it would truly be a death wish.

As the shouts and footsteps of both sides approached, even the patterns of the beast masks on their faces could be seen clearly, combat finally erupted between the two formations!

The clouds above converged in an instant, forming a sinister pitch-black color, dense as ink. The dark clouds were suddenly compressed together, frighteningly black as if condensed into an essence of darkness and then burst forth, releasing consecutive lightning bolts accompanied by frenzied rolling thunder, rattling the ground upon arrival.

Although the Barbarian Warriors had undergone regular magic strike training, facing the onslaught of golden lightning mixed with black clouds terrified them immensely. This was nothing like their training. It was a true magic assault that could be fatal!

The golden lightning exploded amongst the soldiers, shredding their tower shields into countless splinters and iron fragments. The sight of charred corpses and the stench of scorched flesh plunged the Barbarian Infantry Formation into chaos. No one could remain calm and stable under such circumstances, even the finest infantry could not. And the difference between a superior infantry formation and an average one lay in their ability to regain composure and fighting spirit in the shortest time possible. Clearly, the Barbarians facing Komer did not possess this qualification.

The two Infantry Formations collapsed instantaneously, even before the Homer Knights could swoop in, they were already disintegrating. In a flash, Fran’s reddened face was filled with an indescribable mix of emotions: anger, agony mixed with disappointment, as well as a hint of helplessness and sadness. As the creator of the army, this scene was indeed disappointing to Fran.

Fortunately, the next few Barbarian Warrior units somewhat settled Fran’s nerves. Perhaps influenced by Sheferley’s constant use of Psychic Magic, the initially panicked Barbarian formations quickly adapted to the continuous thunder-based magic bombardment. Although the tower shields could not withstand direct hits from heavenly thunder, appropriate changes in formation could still significantly reduce the impact. Besides the casualties caused by the relentless thunder and lightning strikes, the Barbarians had, at least psychologically, begun to adapt to this unconventional assault, perhaps this was what the Lord meant by human warfare, they must learn to adapt!
