Chapter 759: Volume 22: Revival and Rise Chapter 18: Shock

With a slight nod, Komer was aware that the other party’s words must be quite pertinent; the Beastman Army and Mortal Country had engaged in skirmishes of varying sizes at the Northern Border region for decades. Facing human castle fortresses, penetrating these defenses would cost them dearly, yet it also shaped a massive and fearsomely powerful Army.

When Nicosia’s Northern Front was breached, in fact, Nicosia’s Army had already lost the qualification to contest the Beastman Army. Deprived of the fortress castles they could rely on, and already crushed in spirit and experience from continuous defeats, the beastmen thus dared to forcefully enter the human settlements of the North of Nicosia, knowing full well that Nicosia now lacked the power to drive them out. Moreover, the other countries of the Northern Alliance were evidently unprepared to engage in full-blown conflict with the Beamon Kingdom. And it seemed that the possibility was quite slim; humans’ schadenfreude was far stronger than their concern for shared fates. The beastmen, far from stupid in this regard, were very clear about this.

Seeing Komer silent for a long while, Dragumo cautiously asked, "Lord, do you mean our Caucasus-Leon Self-Defense Force will also clash with the Beastman Army? But we are just the Caucasus-Leon Self-Defense Force; we have no obligation to wage war for the entire Kingdom of Nicosia. Our duty is only to guard your territory, and you are not the king. Our enemies should be the Homer People."

"Dragumo, the affairs of our human society are not as simple as you imagine. Although I am just the Lord of Caucasus-Leon, I am still a subject of the Kingdom of Nicosia. When the kingdom is in crisis, every citizen should take part in this war without hesitation," Komer explained with a bitter smile.

"If that’s the case, Mr. Fran told me, why can the Four Great Lords of the kingdom remain indifferent? Aren’t they subjects of the kingdom too? Their military power and the strength of their Mage Corps and Knights regiments far exceed our Caucasus-Leon Self-Defense Force. Why must it be us who bear this responsibility?" Dragumo clearly couldn’t grasp the intrigue behind this.

To such a question from the other party, Komer was struck dumb. If he were to inform Dragumo that the Four Great Lords were now effectively independent kingdoms, then Dragumo would certainly ask why Caucasus and Leon couldn’t do the same, a question difficult to explain at the moment.

Heaving a deep sigh, Komer could only vaguely tell the other party, "Dragumo, the complete story is too complicated to express in a few words. But you do need to understand one thing: the Self-Defense Forces of Caucasus and Leon can only grow stronger, not weaker. We are surrounded by enemies; no one can help us but ourselves, and only we can save ourselves. The reason why we have traveled all this distance to Livonia is for the better survival of our Caucasus and Leon."

On this point, Dragumo had no doubt whatsoever.

Half-beasts have always been unafraid of death and warfare. For them, laboring in mines without daylight and harsh living conditions had already pushed them to the brink. Now, life in the Self-Defense Force was undoubtedly paradise. Even if they were to die in battle immediately, their families could still enjoy a generous pension stipulated by the Lord’s Mansion. Merely this fact was enough to inspire them to valiantly move forward. Moreover, during the recent training period, Fran had intentionally strengthened their sense of warrior honor, instilling in them pride in dying on the Battlefield. Fran had fully mobilized the half-beasts’ bravery and blood through the cultivation of a sense of military honor.

Now, the living conditions of the half-beasts of Caucasus and Leon had improved countless times compared to when Boninski controlled Leon. The continuous blockades and invasions by the Homer People also made the half-beasts always sense the danger of being forced back to their former plight. Every time Komer expanded the Army and recruited soldiers, it attracted countless half-beasts, because they all feared that once those Northern Homer nobles truly defeated Caucasus and restored their rule, the half-beasts would once again be reduced to a life without light. Instead of surviving like this, they would rather fight a decisive battle on the Battlefield.

"Please rest assured, my Lord, our Leon Self-Defense Force will definitely not let you down," Dragumo felt his blood rush to his face, Komer’s penetrating gaze acting like a stimulant, making Dragumo subconsciously want to devote everything to this Great Lord. Perhaps dying on the Battlefield would be the best way for him to repay the Lord.

Komer knew that his spiritual imprint had once again left a deep mark on Dragumo’s heart. Komer didn’t wish for the other to die on the Battlefield, but most of the forces under his command were currently composed of half-beast Soldiers. Although their adoration and reverence for him did not seem to have weakened their loyalty, Komer dared not be complacent. Cultivating a group of officers who were absolutely loyal to himself was the strongest assurance to keep this Army under his control.

When Dragumo led an army of two thousand Half-beast Men into Livonia City, flaunting their might, nearly the entire Southwest Region descended into inexplicable panic. The fierce and formidable Half-beast Men, fully armed, were setting foot in parts of the kingdom they had never reached before. Where had they come from, and what was their purpose here?

Although some Nobles had already been informed that the forces of Viscount Komer of Caucasus would enter the Southwest Region to assist Princess Katya in repelling external military threats, whether from Godeburg to the East or Beastman forces to the North, this army was to shoulder their rightful duties. Furthermore, in the notice, Katya and Palermo had vaguely informed the Nobles of the Southwest Region that due to Viscount Komer’s territory being on the frontier, his army might include soldiers of other races. This had precedent the last time Viscount Komer dispatched troops to help the kingdom defend against Beastman invasions, and the Nobles were urged to remain calm and restrained.

In the eyes of these Nobles, it wasn’t unusual for an army to have a few Half-beast Men, Dwarves, or Half-Elves among their ranks. Such cases existed even within the kingdom’s forces, and a variety of races could also be found among the servants and slaves of the Nobles in various places. Therefore, no one really thought anything of it, but when two thousand pure Half-beast soldiers marched through Livonia City, the visual and psychological impact immediately plunged the entire city into panic.

No one had imagined that an army purportedly come to protect their safety and interests could present such a sight!

These fully-armed Half-beast soldiers, each one’s face hidden behind a bestial mask, brandished their Iron Spears piercing the sky like a forest. Their sword blades and Beast-patterned Tower Shields in hand added to their imposing presence. The thick armor was undoubtedly custom-fitted, enveloping their bodies completely. Aside from their unusually tall and robust stature, the ferocity that shone through their furrowed brows was ample proof they were no ordinary Mortals. Accompanied by their shouts in a thick accent, almost everyone’s first thought was that a Beastman Army had broken into Livonia!

The overwhelming aura was so suffocating that everyone felt as if they could hardly breathe. The violent, wild scent oozing through their armor pressed up against the Livonia residents clustered along the streets. The fierceness, the boldness, the bravery, like crashing waves upon a shore, rendered the entire crowd along the streets into a kind of petrified state, expressions of fear, panic, withdrawal, and awe blending into a static display before the Half-beast soldiers.

Komer watched with satisfaction as the jittery crowd unfolded before him.

The uniform stride of the soldiers resonated eerily through the streets of Livonia, shocking and frightening all those who had come to greet them. At that moment, they hardly dared to speak, neither daring to leave nor to make any sudden movements. They could only force stiff smiles on their faces to confront this unacceptable reality, fearing that any accidental sound they made would bring disaster upon them. They could hardly imagine how such an army would appear out of the blue on the streets of Livonia, and to think they had willingly rushed to welcome them!

This was precisely the scenario Komer intended to create. With unfavorable news coming in from Godeburg, the Middle and Small Aristocrats and Traders of the Southwest were becoming anxious and unsettled. Some wavering individuals already began contemplating shifting allegiances – a source of great anxiety for Katya.

Confronted with Hoffman’s Blood Lion Corps – a force of over ten thousand Noble private soldiers – the Middle and Small Aristocrats and Traders of the Southwest were helpless. An army of such magnitude was fatal news—something they could not withstand merely by the Traders gathering Funds or the Nobles rounding up some slaves or assembling Farmers. If they were to march on them, especially with the Blue Dove Corps making it clear they would not interfere in internal kingdom disputes, the only option for the Middle and Small Aristocrats and Traders was to surrender. Already beginning to despair, these Aristocrats and Traders contemplated how to surrender gracefully in hopes of receiving clemency from the Godeburg side. And at this point, to bolster the morale of these individuals, nothing would work except presenting a scene that evoked both fear and awe!
