Chapter 750: Volume 22: Revival and Rise Chapter 10: Deadly Trick
Without a sound, Dashler nodded his agreement with Shami’s view. Mortals have always treated the Beamon Tribe with a condescending attitude, viewing them universally as the epitome of brawn over brains, never able to stand on equal footing with mortals. Even when the Beamon frequently caused harm to mortal kingdoms, they believed it was because the mortals did not take them seriously or because of internal strife. As long as mortals were serious, with their far superior manufacturing capabilities, trained organizational discipline, and unique magic skills, the Beamon Tribe would always be relegated to roaming the Mogan Wilderness.
Mortals harbored an attitude of exploitation and manipulation towards the Beamon, especially those with special powers, who thought they could toy with the Beamon Tribe at their own discretion. But Dashler knew that the mortals would eventually pay a painful price for their arrogance, and that moment seemed to be gradually approaching.
"Shami, how far do you plan to go?" Dashler still did not lift his gaze.
"How far? If I could completely destroy the resistance of The Kingdom of Nicosia, that would be my greatest wish," Shami said, "but it seems that it won’t be easy to achieve that in one fell swoop. However, this opportunity is too rare. As long as Nicosia’s Royal Court Magicians leave Jazair, I believe we can take Jazair. Then, even if we cannot defeat the Nicosians in one stroke, as long as we control Jazair, the entire north and central region of Nicosia will lie prostrate before us, including most of the region to the east. That is my minimum goal."
Shami Taegor’s furry fingers moved across the map hanging in the tent, a map of the Northern Region of the Blue Continent. The Beamon Tribe had also gradually learned to use maps in their prolonged warfare against mortals, combining their intuitive and judgmental approach with this more scientific method, significantly increasing the efficiency of the beastman army’s marches.
"Look, Dashler, here are The Kingdom of Nicosia’s two major lords in the north, who have built a rather solid defensive line to the north. Breaking through there would cost us dearly," Shami continued, pointing at the map. "And if you look here, breaking through from either of these two sides would allow us to strike directly under the walls of Jazair City. Once we occupy Jazair, the entire north of The Kingdom of Nicosia would open its arms to us, exposing Galle and Homer at once, which would be so advantageous to our next move! By that time, the whole of Nicosia would be at our disposal, and our Beamon Tribe could easily enjoy all the finest things in the world!" With his voice growing louder, Shami seemed inspired by his own plans.
"Shami, if that’s the case, then what are you worried about? Why not take the whole of Nicosia in one fell swoop?" Another voice cut in, slightly hoarse and deep. The lean man who had just opened the tent flap came in, rubbing his hands together, his eyes already fixed greedily on the map on the tent canvas.
"Carter, perhaps we could make a long march to every corner of Nicosia, but can we conquer each castle and fortress? No, we are not ready yet. The power of mortal Mage Corps is too strong; the Shamanic Power that the High Priest has painstakingly cultivated is not yet able to withstand such a tremendous strain. We cannot be satisfied with a momentary pleasure; this small amount of Shamanic Power has taken us more than twenty years to prepare, and a new batch of Shamanic Power is still in training. We need more time! If it this opportunity weren’t so excellent, I wouldn’t want to reveal our true strength prematurely, but if we can take down Jazair, it’s worth it," Shami said, standing with his hands clasped behind his back, his tiger eyes gleaming as he stared intently at the city of Jazair marked in the center of the map. "Without Jazair, The Kingdom of Nicosia would become scattered, no longer possessing the ability to pose a threat to us. And once Nicosia falls, the mortals of the entire Northern Continent will no longer be able to ignore us as they have in the past. We will win more!"
Carter Wolfe was clearly moved by Shami Taegor’s words. Roaming the mortal territories had always been Carter’s dream; since he was young he had dreamt of leading an invincible force of Wolf riders sweeping across the continent. However, the mortals’ deceptively weak but resilient defense lines, like a taut tendon wrapping tightly around the Beamon Tribe, especially the power of mortal mages, was a nightmare for the Beamon. Their presence meant repeated success and repeated frustration for him, and the lack of power to counteract mortal mages meant the Beamon Tribe was never able to perfectly complete a campaign. But now, as Shami said, maybe this was the best opportunity the Beamon Tribe had in years.
As much as Dashler liked to dampen spirits when others were excited, this time was no exception: "Shami, Carter, we still need to consider the consequences of revealing our Shamanic Power. As you said, our Shamanic Power is not yet strong enough. We cannot yet contend with the Church of Light’s power. If they realize our Shamanic Power could pose a threat to them, might they target our Shamanic Power for attack? If that were to happen, how would we respond?"
Dashler’s words brought silence to Shami and Carter; this was a very realistic issue. The shamanic power was cultivated by the most outstanding High Priest of the Beamon Tribe in the present generation. It took him twenty years to cultivate it, after drawing on the experiences and knowledge passed down from previous priests. These powers were like seeds, and with these seeds, the shamanic power that could communicate with the forces of heaven and earth would truly take root and sprout within the Beamon Tribe. If, due to shortsightedness or impatience, they lost the shamanic power, the current leaders would indeed become the historical sinners of the Beamon Tribe.
"Raise an army for a thousand days, use it for a moment, the purpose in cultivating shamanic power is to enhance the strength of our Beamon Tribe. If we hide in the shadows every day for fear of losses and sacrifices, it defeats the true meaning of nurturing shamans!" A light voice came from the back door of the tent, the tent flap lifted without warning, and an elder draped in a long hair and black robe floated into the tent.
"Greetings to the High Priest!" All three people in the tent bowed their heads in respect.
"Shami, Carter, I am heartened by your ambition. It is not easy to nurture shamans, but the purpose of their cultivation is to let them play a role in our Beamon Tribe’s wars of conquest. So, you need not be overly concerned. Shami, your timing and caution are both very appropriate. Now is when the Nicosians are at their weakest; the chaotic situation has led them to focus more on their internal strife. Our Beamon Tribe cannot lose this opportunity. Crushing Nicosia can greatly undermine the mortals’ confidence, this will create a good situation for the future development of our Beamon Tribe," the faint voice sounded a bit peculiar, but the three Beamon chiefs, accustomed to his mysterious appearance, all nodded in agreement.
"High Priest, but how should we deal with potential hostility and counterattacks from the Church of Light?" Shami Taegor calmed down at this point. With the support of the High Priest, his heart grew much more steadfast, but as the king of the Beamon Kingdom, he needed to consider more thoroughly.
"The Church of Light is not as powerful as you imagine, or perhaps it is indeed powerful, but its internal strife severely diminishes its capacity to function. Those we are in contact with do not fully represent the Church of Light, and the Church has other, more powerful enemies. Perhaps in their eyes, we are still but a minor nuisance, which is exactly our opportunity. During the war, as long as you carefully manage the extent of engagement, I believe the Church of Light will not shift its focus to us anytime soon."
For the three Beamon chiefs, the words of the High Priest were like the sound of heaven. Their worship and reverence for the High Priest made them never doubt the truth of his words, and the High Priest’s wisdom was proven time and again.
"Thank you, High Priest, for clearing our doubts and allowing us to carry out this action boldly and confidently," Shami Taegor expressed the decisiveness befitting the king of the Beamon Kingdom, his eyes sharp as he spoke. "Carter, immediately get the wolf riders in order, but do so discreetly. When preparing for action, maintain strict secrecy. I plan to strike from the west into Nicosia, and at that time the wolf riders will serve as an assault force to completely break the Iron Cross Corps of the Nicosians. Then, the wolf riders are responsible for clearing the remaining mortal forces around Jazair City; remember, limit it to the area around Jazair City, do not be blindly greedy for accomplishments. Our primary goal is to take down Jazair City!"
"Dashler, mobilize all forces immediately to scout the entire western defensive system of the Nicosians. I need to crush all of the Nicosian forces in the west in one fell swoop, preventing them from organizing an effective defense. Also, keep a close watch on the movements of the Royal Court Magicians of Nicosia after leaving Jazair City. Any unusual changes must be reported to me in the shortest time, and I hope you will personally take care of this matter. As for the decisive battle, I will lead the attack infantry of the Tiger Clan, the Cow Light Infantry, and the heavy infantry of the Bear Tribe. In addition, Christine will lead the Fox Clan crossbowmen and other auxiliary military forces to support me; I want to take down Jazair City in one go!"
