Chapter 690: Volume Nineteen: Lost Horizons Chapter Eighteen: The Vampire Queen

"Miss Katrina, I will tell you the true process, please be patient. However, I can tell you one thing first, I did not go on any adventure to the Vague Continent. I neither have the interest nor the capability to do those things; those are just pretexts from some schemers."

It was not until now that Komer realized his disappearance had long been known throughout the Blue Continent. However, Komer didn’t quite understand why his disappearance would be covered up with the absurd and comical excuse of an adventure to the Vague Continent. What was the reason behind this? Was it an idea from Puber and the others to prevent instability in the situation between Caucasus and Leon, or was it a ploy by the Church of Light to deceive the public?

"Is that so? However, this explanation comes officially from Caucasus. You’ve been missing for over a month, and it seems no one can provide an accurate account. In the end, it was the Church of Light who spilled the beans. I really thought Viscount Komer revered the Church of Light so much that he would be willing to venture to the Vague Continent on their behalf. Hehehehe, only today have I realized how utterly wrong that was. Viscount Komer, steeped in dark magic, couldn’t the fools of the Church of Light see through you at all?"

The red-haired witch’s laughter was somewhat wanton as she shook her body, the rise and fall of her voluptuous form sparking infinite fantasies, Komer included.

"Miss Katrina, never underestimate those sanctimonious hypocrites. Beneath their false exteriors, they conceal dirty and despicable schemes. If you are deceived by their facades, you may end up in a much worse situation than I am now," Komer said without trying to conceal his current downcast state.

"Oh? It appears that even Viscount has suffered greatly at the hands of the Church of Light; surprising indeed. If the Church of Light were to confront a dark mage like yourself, it should result in an unyielding vendetta. However, from your words, it seems as if the Church of Light has taken quite an advantage over you, haven’t they? Or did I hear wrong?" The red-haired girl showed great interest in Komer’s plight, her charming red lips slightly parting, and even seemed to momentarily set aside the question of his intentions.

For the keen intuition of this pirate queen before him, Komer was not surprised. Merely relying on martial arts or magic wouldn’t be enough to solidify her position. A calm and wise mind, plus a unique and broad vision, were key to being the leader of an organization.

"Wisdom comes from experience, Miss Katrina. There’s no shame in that. The Church of Light may be despicable, but their strength cannot be underestimated," Komer didn’t want to delve deeper into the matter, at least now was not the time to discuss it. "As for the reason I’m here, I believe you have an idea now, Miss Katrina. I am out to lay low for a while. The Church of Light doesn’t seem to want me back in Caucasus and Leon just yet; they hope I will cooperate with their story and rest outside for a period of time."

"You are saying you were exiled by the Church of Light?" Katrina raised her sharp brows.

"No, the Church doesn’t have the authority to exile anyone. But their influence in the North is sufficient to affect many things. I do not wish my territory’s development to be hindered by these unnecessary factors, so I chose self-imposed exile."

The smile on Komer’s face seemed rather eerie in Katrina’s eyes. Such a reason was hard to believe, but Katrina wasn’t eager to dwell on this irrelevant issue either. "Oh, so you chose to travel in the Mediterranean? How did you like it, the wonders of the Giganthia Temple and the scenery of Gozo Island? They are sacred places for you dark cultivators. My Dacorsica Island is also quite nice, isn’t it? Welcome to visit our Dacorsica Island."

Hearing the insincere welcome from the other side, Komer couldn’t help but smile. No one would welcome a troublesome guest with a complicated background like himself at such a time, not even this pirate queen. But he was about to change her mind soon.

"Miss Katrina, I heard you and the Goth’s up North are not on pleasant terms?" A smirk plastered on his face seemed eerily peculiar to the red-haired girl. Komer was set to give her a bigger jolt. "It appears that the Gray Skulls of the Goth have been rather aggressive lately. I wonder if you feel the same way, Miss Katrina?"

The red-haired girl’s gaze suddenly turned sinister, her cold eyes flickering across Komer’s frame, and those ruby lips seemed to darken as if stained with a layer of fresh blood.

"Viscount," he said, his voice devoid of emotion, "do you find amusement in toying with me?" Her tongue slipped out, licking her crimson lips, and the slight flare of her nostrils seemed to trigger some memory in Komer, but he couldn’t quite recall what the gesture meant. The bold and boisterous image of the Pirate Queen vanished without a trace, revealing another side of Katrina.

"Hmm, the Carter Fleet’s defeat at the hands of their arch-nemesis, Gray Skull, must be hard to accept. However, considering Gote’s use of the Mirror of Thousand Miles to secure the upper hand, the Fleet’s outcome is quite respectable. But as far as I know, Gote now possesses even more powerful weapons. How much do you know about this, Miss Katrina?"

Tilting his head slightly, Komer’s expression seemed to challenge the Red-haired girl’s patience.

Her stiletto hummed softly in her grasp, barely held in check. Katrina fought to control her emotions, her arm trembling as she struggled to maintain composure. The spiritual light coursing over the blade and its keen cries betrayed her inner turmoil. How could this man, unknown even to many of her own upper echelons, grasp such closely guarded secrets—who was he, and how did he know everything?

"Who exactly are you? If you cannot give me a satisfactory and reliable answer, I’m afraid you’ll regret this for the rest of your life—assuming you even get the chance to regret," said the Red-haired girl, her face white but flushed, cold and fierce. The slight curl of her lips gave Komer a peculiar thrill. Recalling how she’d flared her nose and licked her lips earlier, a thought suddenly leaped to his mind—vampires?!

"Miss Katrina, please, there’s no need for agitation. Have I not already told you? I am Komer from Caucasus. As for your suspicions, nothing is particularly strange about them. The Gray Skull still operates off the coast of Caucasus, and Rhode isn’t too far from the Continent. All their supplies have to pass through my territory. I’m well aware of their movements, and they are deeply connected to me."

Komer shrugged, his demeanor unfazed by Katrina’s exaggerated display. It seemed the Pirate Queen was of vampire descent, which easily explained her prowess in releasing Psychic Magic—vampires are innately gifted with spiritual power and also have an uncanny advantage in cultivating dark magic. However, this vampire queen seemed more interested in pursuing martial prowess, even disdainful of spending more time perfecting her magic.

"Oh?" Katrina grunted softly through her nose, her stiletto finally calming under her firm control. But she’d already resolved that if this man uttered one more disagreeable word, she wouldn’t hesitate to exchange blood for blood, even if it meant paying dearly just to ensure he’d leave his life on Dacorsica Island. "Do tell."

"It’s quite simple, the weapon that has hurt the Carter Fleet most is the Magic-armed gun. Both the Mirror of Thousand Miles and the Magic-armed gun were designed and made by me for Gray Skull," he said succinctly, delivering a shock with every word that even stunned Katrina into disbelief.

The Magic-armed gun? The secret of the Mirror of Thousand Miles was something Katrina had only learned through considerable effort, bribing insiders among the Gray Skull. But Gote’s obsession over the Mirror was pathological—only distributing them to his most trusted men when heading out at sea, making it impossible for her to access. And in their last two clashes, her fleet had suffered heavy losses without getting the chance to board or even unleash their high-powered catapults and crossbows before being bewildered by a strange light fired from a hundred meters away by the Gray Skull ships. That celestial radiance engulfed her ships in a sea of fire, an unbelievable sight to behold from a sea battle a hundred meters away.

Now Katrina understood the origin of those strange beams of light—the Magic-armed gun! The word alone sent shivers through her body; if she could possess that magic weapon that had destroyed two of her main ships, not even Gray Skull could withstand her, much less the combined fleets of the Corinth City-State Union. She had the confidence to obliterate them all.

Komer could sense the various changes in her expression. Anyone learning the truth would have to scrutinize its veracity. He believed Katrina, with her intelligence, would quickly grasp why he’d revealed this secret. When the goods are genuine, there is no lack of traders—anyone would react the same.
