Chapter 675: Volume Nineteen: Lost Horizon Chapter Five: Trapped Beast
"Wind Cone?!" His pupils constricting slightly, Lorenzo finally recalled that his colleague had, years ago, already possessed a profound foundation in Elemental Magic. The Tornado Pillar just now was merely a ruse to gather wind elements, while the rapidly forming funnel-shaped Wind Cone before him was the true lethal move!
The intense wind element turned from a pale green to a sinister blue-grey in just a few seconds under the fast-rotating compressive force. A massive amount of wind element compressed within an extremely small space, generated tremendous shooting power. The hard wall barrier created by Air Magic made the Wind Cone’s outer surface exceptionally solid, and the compressed wind elements continuously rotated outward, spraying from the tip of the funnel. This generated a remarkably fierce impact and shooting force—the very make-up of the Wind Cone.
Mixed Magic had almost become the exclusive purview of Archmages. Almost every mage of Archmage level and above specialized in one or two Mixed Magic spells that could easily be fused with their elemental affinity, serving as their signature moves. Now that it had come to this point, Rebury had no intention of seeking a good resolution. Thus, he saw no need to hide anything and immediately unleashed his most powerful technique, which had never been revealed before.
Dozens of Wind Cones spiraled and danced in the air, their shrill shrieks filling Damarlinsk Castle, almost tearing Komer’s eardrums. The sound was like countless demons laughing wildly in the sky or innumerable souls from underground wailing, summoning the living from the bowels of hell. The friction caused by the fast rotation between the Air Barrier and the wind elements had caused a slight change in the entire plane of air.
The onslaught of Wind Cones covered every angle. The airflow ejected from their sharp tips could split stone and pierce metal. As the Deputy Chief of the Religious Court, Lorenzo was all too aware of the power of this Mixed Magic. He formed complex hand gestures, and his spell had already been chanted at the first opportunity. This enraged Lorenzo; it had been many years since anyone had forced him into such a desperate incantation of Magic Spells to speed up the generation of a defensive shield to withstand an attack.
The Light Series Shield was created almost instantly. With potent mana and the incantation’s acceleration, the Light Series Shield surfaced just before the Wind Cone’s assault. Countless Wind Cones battered against the silver-white light curtain, and the piercing screech suddenly seemed to diminish at that moment. However, that screech became even more soul-piercing, making it hard for one to suppress the tightening in their chest.
The sharp shooting force kept gnawing at the Light Series Shield’s curtain. Lorenzo realized at this point that he had indeed underestimated his opponent. He had only heard of the Wind Cone and had never truly witnessed it. After all, in the Church of Light, few were adept at this type of Mixed Magic. The destructive force it wielded against his Light Shield was incredibly fierce. Although he kept strengthening the shield with mana, such reinforcement was evidently unsustainable against the Wind Cone’s relentless attack power.
A hint of an unusual expression appeared on Noyola’s face. He was aware that, with Rebury’s strength, nothing he used would be insignificant. But to employ the dual-element Mixed Magic spell, "Wind Cone," without any link to Rebury’s most profound Light Magic, was enough to demonstrate that Rebury’s power had far exceeded Noyola’s initial estimations.
Countless Wind Cones spun and swayed wildly midair. Numerous rays of shooting force ejected from the funnel tips, continuously tearing at the shield that was emerging with a faint silver-white glow. The razor-sharp shooting force left countless intersecting grooves on the stone-paved ground, and the ochre red stone powder scattered in the wake of the relentless shooting force, spreading a distinct stone powder odor in the air.
Komer took a deep breath. Although Rebury seemed to have the upper hand on the surface, Komer knew it was just an illusion. Up to this point, Lorenzo had not launched an offensive, and the strong Mixed Magic of the Wind Cone had still not surprised Lorenzo or Noyola. This also proved that Lorenzo and Noyola were far stronger than Rebury had first imagined.
Although he knew this approach did not quite abide by the rules, Komer understood he had no choice. If they did not join forces, Rebury might not last much longer. That Noyola dared to let Lorenzo deal with both him and Rebury indicated his absolute confidence. Given such circumstances, Komer felt he no longer needed to be constrained by any rules or concerns.
Beneath the broad mage robe, the dark magic power in the Black Crystal Staff ebbed from the tip to the tail and back again. The sleeves of the mage robe still slowly billowed, and Komer’s face grew more solemn. His pale cheeks framed a pair of deep eyes that seemed like endless voids capable of devouring everything, even the gaze that met them.
As Lorenzo’s wide sleeves gently rose, a faint light mist, like the morning sunshine, began to ascend from the tip of the raised magic wand. Almost everyone in the area suddenly felt the power of this light mist, leaving no room for extra thought. In an instant, the mist gathered into a coiling, knotted ribbon of light, and then it burst forth like a resplendent flare of crimson light emerging from the sea, comparable to the rising sun. The roaring Wind Cone dissipated under this sudden outbreak of light mist, evaporating without a trace or even sound, vanishing into thin air. The strangeness of it all made even Noyola take a deep breath. This Lorenzo had indeed withheld a higher technique, surpassing even Sky Light Crossing Magic—a Light System Divine Magic known as Infinite Skylight.
The formidable Light Power not only swept away the gathered Wind Element in the air but also carried an unmatched momentum as it barreled toward Rebry and Komer. Even the magic array nearby seemed to quiver slightly under the rolling influence of this wave of Light Power.
Komer inhaled sharply, hastily retracting the spell he was about to chant. Facing such potent Light Power, any use of Dark Spells would have been purely suicidal. The Necromancy he had intended to unleash would have been utterly annihilated by this surge of pure Light Power, not leaving even a speck of residue behind.
Now, the only viable option was his specialty—thunder-based Magic—and without further hesitation, as delaying further could mean that Rebry might still hold out, but the chance to regain the upper hand would be a mere dream. Tapping the Black Crystal Staff gently on the ground twice, the magic power springing from the base of the staff merged evenly with the magic power from his own body.
When massive thunderclouds covered the skies above Damarlinsk Castle, darkening the land below to a drear gray, even Noyola raised his eyebrows in shock and watched the heavens. The dominator of thunder-based Magic—the Hammer of Thor—rumbling Yin Thunder Sounds filled the air, and dark clouds churned as if Thor himself was venting his wrath upon the earth, with golden snakes leaping from the gaps in the sky. Thunderbolts ripped apart the sky, heralding the Thunder God’s presence.
If it were merely the Hammer of Thor, Noyola would have been only mildly surprised, rather than shocked. Although wild and ferocious, and unaffected by Light Power, it was not invincible. With sufficient strength, one could neutralize even this indomitable spell. The problem was, judging by the scale of the thunderclouds and lightning, this was clearly not the work of a single Hammer of Thor magic but at least two or even three. Could this small aristocrat possibly possess the power to unleash several Hammers of Thor at once?
No, impossible. Save for His Holiness the Pope, not even Frenster or Vazinsky, or himself could do such a thing. So, how had this fellow accomplished it? Perhaps a Magic Scroll? That was the only possibility. Could there still exist a Hammer of Thor Magic Scroll on the Blue Continent? To Noyola’s knowledge, although many mages could produce the Hammer of Thor, the Crystal stones capable of supporting the release of such advanced thunder-based Magic were almost nonexistent on the Blue Continent, and the once universally available advanced Magic Scrolls for the Hammer of Thor had not been sold for years. Where had this fellow got his from?
Infinite Skylight swept in like a tidal wave, and Komer had no choice but to summon a giant Stone Golem before him while casting the Hammer of Thor, yet he still did not dare to relax. As two Magic Scrolls for the Hammer of Thor fell away after being unleashed, another Light Shield Magic Cover also enveloped his body. To counter Light Power, one could use either Light Power or Dark Force, the latter requiring a head-to-head confrontation almost purely based on strength. Komer wasn’t ready to take that step yet, and even at this moment, he still harbored a sliver of hope.
Facing the vast black clouds that blanketed the sky and the overpowering scent of the blended fiery and windy elements, Lorenzo too was astounded. Such a grand spectacle was clearly not the effect of one or two instances of thunder-based Magic. Rebry was still desperately committing his own Light Magic Power to withstand the frontal assault and therefore couldn’t possibly have any energy left to unleash thunder-based Magic, so that left the uncouth noble. Could it be that he managed to release several thunder-based spells at once? And it looked like he was using the Hammers of Thor, the dominators of thunder Magic. Was this fellow mad? Using several Magic Scrolls at once? Did he think that would allow him to escape punishment?
Shocked but not frightened, Lorenzo didn’t flinch; thunder-based Magic might be fierce and unbridled, but it was not enough to make him retreat. Let the storm come more fiercely, then!
