Chapter 599: Volume 15: Thunder Shakes the Ground Chapter 17: The Dragon’s Wrath Shocks the Soul

First to stir was the seemingly harmless Soul Eating Gnome, whose cloak, black as a crow, flashed and suddenly expanded like an approaching storm cloud, swiftly darting toward Mihailovich and Rebry, who were standing together, already braced for battle. It was clear that the Charming Spirit hidden in the shadows had also realized that besides Komer, these two mages posed the most significant threat. To bend a bow is to shoot an arrow at its strongest; to capture thieves is to first capture their king. Eliminating these few leading figures would naturally disperse the rest like smoke and clouds. Although the gnome’s mental presence was supremely arrogant, in actuality, it showed no restraint in its actions.

The Mechanical Puppet had already leapt high to shield Mihailovich and Rebry, its arms, armed with Scythes of Death, sweeping up two vast faint glimmers of light curtains, blocking the Soul Eating Gnome outside like two enormous blade doors. As a Puppet Magic Doll powered by an exotic Magic Crystal, it had no life force to speak of, rendering the formidable gnome useless against it. Moreover, the arms of the puppet, outfitted with Scythes of Death, were sharp beyond compare; a single slice would reduce the gnome to shreds.

However, since the Soul Eating Gnome dared to enter the fray, it naturally wasn’t an enemy to be easily overcome. Its body performed an agile somersault in the air, colliding with the puppet’s Scythes of Death using its hands, tempered by Resentful Soul Sand. The crisp impact was distinctly the sound of metal clashing, and sparks flew. Seemingly unaffected, the gnome turned and spun in mid-air, leveraging the momentum to launch a sinister, and oddly swirling attack, sinking slightly before lunging from the flank.

The movements of the Mechanical Puppet could be considered swift and nimble, but they paled in comparison to the Soul Eating Gnome. Nevertheless, Rebry had already started chanting his spell, a towering flame shield securely protecting himself, Mihailovich, and the women behind them. The Divine Light Blessings summoned by Lome added a holy silver-white gleam to the flame shield, ensuring even the gnome’s indomitable arms dared not hastily test the defense laced with the heavenly realm’s Holy Fire.

A screech that rattled the soul emanated from the gnome, and its gaze turned a peculiar dark red. Its cloak unfurled like massive bat wings, opening and closing rapidly as it encircled the flame shield conjured by Rebry, launching a frenzied assault from all directions with the speed of lightning and the force of wind.

The Giant Zombies, formidable and dreaded, were next to move. Their heavy footsteps thudding on the ground sounded like beats hammering against everyone’s chest. The mere swaying of their Double-edged Giant Axes suggested an air saturated with a bloody, murderous intent, enough to seep into one’s soul. The two Giant Zombies were similar in stature and appearance, with knotted beards and broad expressionless faces that bore a golden seal on their foreheads, signifying their past identities as unparalleled Giant Spirit warriors.

The two Black Warriors reacted with even greater agility, their Bone Spirit Flame Swords enveloped in purple flames rising amidst the black mist. They plunged into the fray from two directions, followed by scores of skeleton warriors surging forward in waves, their coordinated strides thundering on the flanks, the combined momentum nearly crushing Komer and his companions into dust.

The intense pressure from the Giant Zombies finally made the normally disdainful Shatima sense a shift in the atmosphere. The relationship between the Dragon Clan and the Giant Spirits, both transcending humanity and gods from ancient times, has become a mystery to the modern world. Given the Dragon Clan’s pride, it was hard to imagine they had ever coexisted amicably with the Giant Spirits.

One of the Giant Zombies quickly locked onto Shatima. Perhaps there was an innate clashing nature between them, as Shatima, far from feeling intimidated by the challenge of the Giant Zombie, instead felt a violent urge from within to torment and slaughter her opponent. Though she could not transform due to her injuries at this time, the numerous restoratives Komer had provided allowed her robust body to have recovered substantially. Her inability to transform merely meant she hadn’t reached her most potent state yet, her endurance somewhat limited, but Shatima’s magic was unrestricted, thanks to the lifting of the Soul Binding magic. She could release her almost endless stream of magical energy without concern, even unleashing her Dragon Breath Magic.

With a ferocious howl, Shatima fearlessly met the inscrutable face of the Giant Zombie, her agile body explosively taking to the air. Her Dragon Spear glowed with an eerie blue radiance, the spearhead bursting with light, as if the temperature across the square had dropped by ten degrees in an instant. Frost Magic had little effect on the lifeless Undead, but elemental properties meant that when the temperature reached a certain point, the essence of all matter would turn brittle. In combat, brittleness meant that the force of an opponent’s blow could shatter it, akin to the effects of Petrification Magic, rendering fatally busted the hidden Prop controllers for the Undead.

In Shatima’s eyes, anything in human form was a sign of weakness, including the so-called Giant Zombies. She had never heard of the Giant Spirit Clan; she only knew of the Dragon Clan’s supremacy, and no one could challenge it—especially herself, unmatched by anyone. Apart from Komer, who had tricked her with scheming tactics, Shatima would not fear anyone in single combat.

The Giant Zombie, unknowing of fear, faced the surging power of the Dragon Spear’s Fighting Qi head-on, its massive Double-edged Axe transforming into a dark circle of light. The swelling Qi appeared to enlarge the blade itself, its patterns shifting into endless illusions.

"Clang!" A metallic crash, almost powerful enough to bounce one’s heart out of their chest, rang out—Shatima felt as if all her strength were about to be scattered by the oncoming blow of the axe, and she floated backward just in time to neutralize the force barreling toward her. The Giant Zombies’ strength was boundless, endowed to them by the Earth Goddess herself, conferring upon them a talent for power unmatched by any man. Even Shatima, having taken on the form of a member of the Human Clan, could not contend with it.

The tip of the Dragon Spear now had a huge notch in it, and it was clear that Shatima was also at a disadvantage when it came to weapons. The Double-Edged Axe, visibly no ordinary weapon, did not pause for a moment. After splitting open Shatima’s defenses, it swung fiercely once more, like the Milky Way pouring down from the heavens, its unparalleled presence enveloped the entire front of the Battlefield. Such might as to make even the gods avoid its edge.

"Roar!" Shatima leapt into the air again, consumed by unbearable humiliation and rage, finding it difficult to control her emotions. Taking pride in her strength, she could not accept the disgrace of being forced to retreat by a single blow—a humiliation to the entire Dragon Clan. If she could not exact a hundredfold revenge, she would rather die in battle right there.

A stream of icy blue Dragon Breath burst forth from Shatima’s rose-red lips. The icy blue gleam, expanded infinitely upon release, stretched out like a scintillating icy blue rainbow, spreading in a narrow fan shape. Anything it touched became bitterly cold, the air solidifying with malevolent frost! The underground Square, already emanating a faint coldness, suddenly fell into deathly silence, as if even sound itself was frozen.

The leading Giant Zombie, despite its invincible strength, could not match the intelligence of Shatima, who possessed the wisdom of the Human Clan. It was completely oblivious to the magnitude of the Ice Magic energy released in that burst of Dragon Element Power! It had frozen still mid-step, its raised axe now appearing like a beautifully sculpted statue in the changing lights, placed right at the center. The Skeleton Warriors following it, even separated by tens of meters, couldn’t withstand the shockwave of the powerful Ice Magic and fell into pieces on the ground!

The Soul Eating Gnome that had just managed to glide across was nearly plummeted from mid-air. If not for its special cloak maintaining its flight angle and its narrow escape from the brunt of the Ice Dragon Breath, the Gnome would have likely fallen and shattered into chunks of ice on the ground.

This was the unreserved explosion of the essence of Dragon Spirit. Though the area affected by the roar was much narrower than last time, the power that radiated out exponentially increased. The Giant Zombie could move no longer, but its manipulator instantly realized something was wrong.

Nobody expected such overwhelming force in the furious outburst of a Dragon. The Ice Magic, born from the Dragon’s core essence, could freeze any object solid. And although the Giant Zombie harbored no life, under the swift freeze of the Magic Power, it too was immobilized, standing like a massive ice sculpture in the center of the Square. Almost everyone was stunned by Shatima’s explosive fury, even the Black Warriors attacking from both flanks seemed to move with difficulty, each step appearing to take seconds to accomplish.

Wrath led to victory, and Shatima, fighting the dizziness from the overuse of Magic Power, saw her Dragon Spear shoot across the sky like a rainbow. Gliding through the frozen realm, she felt a friction in the air, power enough to shatter the Giant Zombie into pieces of broken ice with a mere touch!

"Eh!" Komer suddenly sensed a disturbance in his spiritual perception, but before he could react, he felt a pang in his heart. Despite the Holy Light Ball making the area around him as bright as daylight, Komer saw no shadow—only his Spiritual Sense alerted him to the presence of the Charming Spirit!

This is one’s duty!
