Chapter 548: Volume 13, Sea Rain and Heavenly Wind, Chapter 18 - Sea Breeze

Komer did not aspire to become a master of Psychic Magic; the cultivation of Dark Magic and Elemental Magic had already made him feel the scarcity of time and energy. If he were to expend effort on the even more complicated Psychic Magic, it would only result in nothing being accomplished. However, he knew that Psychic Magic was quite useful in certain specific situations, and Kennifer III had left him extremely precious memories and robust Mental Magic. Utilizing this wealth, he undoubtedly had a lantern to illuminate his path, providing a better opportunity to achieve this grand dream. But it also might cause him to fall into the Abyss forever. Nonetheless, he was willing to attempt it. Even if he couldn’t become a true expert proficient in all kinds of Psychic Magic, cultivating it could strengthen his Spiritual Power, effectively preventing Magic Power Rebound when practicing other magics. Moreover, certain specific Psychic Magics could put him in a more advantageous position in many scenarios.

As he gently caressed the Food Package, the air seemed to still be tinged with a faint scent of desire. Komer wasn’t sure whether this was due to psychological reasons or if the scent truly lingered. In any case, the aroma gave him an urge to vent his passions. The adage that once abstinence fails, one can become a captive of desire, seemed quite reasonable. He had lived a life of abstinence for years, but once released, Komer found himself seemingly infatuated with this flavor. It was not a good sign.

Scenes that had unfolded here a few hours ago seemed to replay repeatedly in Komer’s mind—a supreme pleasure. Komer hadn’t enjoyed himself so fully and unrestrainedly in a long time. Lome had exhausted the last bit of energy in her body, and Komer believed she would sleep until the next morning before having the spirit to face everything. What she needed most now was rest.

The afterglow of the setting sun painted the River Surface a bright crimson, and the calm, waveless water resembled a mirror. In the reed beds on both sides of the riverbank, figures of the Jellyfish People began to bustle. They fished and harvested, returning home in succession to the deep recesses of the Reed Marsh. Upon seeing the mortal merchant fleet that Komer and his party were aboard, although many were extremely surprised and curious, it was evident they had been notified. They did not show much affection for this intruding mortal merchant fleet within their territory. Nonetheless, the originally hostile sentiment seemed to have softened considerably, hinting to Komer the dawn of a new era.

"Sir Baron, these Jellyfish People are simply the natural masters of these waters, just as the Shark people are the born rulers of the Mediterranean. No nation can wrest this power from their hands. Your gaining their support would assure that your name is forever etched in the History Books of the Continent. My admiration for you is beyond words," Hayreddin said earnestly, filling Komer with a warm feeling.

"Hayreddin, this is only our first step. The Jellyfish People will eventually realize that no race can exist independently of this world unless they wish for their extinction. Among the Jellyfish People, there are also sages who understand this truth. The Continent is a world where the fittest survive and the unfit perish, just like a boat sailing against the current that must progress or be swept downstream. If a race is incapable of adapting to the changes of the world, then its only fate is extinction. In fact, resolving the so-called curse of the Water God that plagues the Jellyfish People is not such a difficult issue. But why has this seemingly simple malady caused the Jellyfish People to suffer from a chronic illness and even develop to the point of threatening their racial survival over the past few hundred years? The reason is that the more they wish to keep this secret and refuse to let others know the actual situation, the less they have others who can help resolve the issue. And they themselves lack the knowledge and power necessary to solve it, which is why it has come to this."

Regarding this maritime powerhouse whom he had recruited into his service, Komer did not hide anything. He needed to instill in the other party some things that should be known. In the near future, perhaps the other party would take on more important responsibilities on his behalf.

Hayreddin nodded silently, contemplating the implications of Komer’s words. The knowledge, wisdom, and experience possessed by this Lord exceeded all that one of his age should have. Hayreddin couldn’t imagine how he had achieved this. The willful Jellyfish People were so easily subdued by him and even agreed to establish a Caucasus navigational base within the Great Swamp Area. This meant the Jellyfish People were willing to cede the Catania River Navigation Rights to the Caucasus, giving the Caucasus a free passage in and out. The influence of Homer to the north would no longer bind Caucasus; they were no longer under anyone’s control!

"Lord, you should see the business opportunities hidden within this route. Are you really only planning to sell the rights to navigate? Have you not thought about using this rare opportunity to build your own fleet to make a fortune?" Unable to contain himself any longer, Hayreddin longed to lead a fleet freely, even if it were only a merchant fleet.

"Heh, Hayreddin, don’t be too impetuous. Perhaps I will build a merchant fleet, but I won’t let you lead it," Komer continued as he saw the disappointment and confusion in the other’s eyes: "The life you need isn’t this one. Adventure and war are what dominate your life. Please trust me, I will give you the life you desire. It just requires time, and the wait won’t be too long. Rest assured."

With his heart pounding fiercely, Hayreddin, his expression complex, stared intently at Komer’s face. If the other party could give him everything he had promised, he would willingly surrender his soul to him. The certainty in Komer’s tone and the confidence in his eyes were compelling. Remembering the extraordinary circumstances he had encountered on the journey, Hayreddin couldn’t help but believe him.

"Lord Komer, I will remember your words. Hayreddin will repay you in every way for them. Please don’t disappoint me," sighed the once-dominant power of the Southern Mediterranean.

Watching the other’s retreating silhouette, Komer shook his head with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile. It seemed this former maritime overlord was also a bit restless. Very well, he needed people who would never give up. With the Catania River Navigation under his control, the significance of the Mediterranean to his plans was becoming increasingly evident. Preparations needed to be made in advance, and Hayreddin was an ideal candidate. With him, Komer would make Caucasus a place that would command the attention of The whole Continent.
