Chapter 519: Volume 12: Blazing Demonic Flames Chapter 10: Fierce Combat
"Princess Finitz, we have sincerely invited you to be our guest. Why are you avoiding us like this?" The four pursuers failed to notice Komer, who had cast a spell of invisibility with air magic, drawing ever nearer; they were completely captivated by the prey before them.
They never considered that anyone could keep up with their pace, whether knight or mage, especially in the undulating hills and shrubbery where the chance of a successful pursuit was nearly zero, particularly since the four of them were trackers trained in the Ascension Technique of wind magic.
At a distance of thirty meters from the four pursuers, Komer didn’t dare to approach any closer; he could already feel the intense magic breath emanating from the four in a semi-circular formation.
These four guys must be magic practitioners, and even though their wide, black robes cloaked their figures, Komer noticed that these individuals were no mere ordinary cultivators; their identity was certainly not simple.
The Elf Thief encircled in the middle was no stranger to these four men; ever since his escape, they had clung to him like persistent parasites. Despite both belonging to the Elf Clan, and though they were Dark Elves, they did not dare to be too presumptuous on Mortal territory and just kept a close eye on him.
But this time, it seemed he had made some errors; hoping to leverage the wilderness terrain to escape, he had not expected these four to be so adept at tracking, cornering him to the edge of this cliff. It seemed he was unlikely to avoid capture.
"I don’t know why you Dark Elves are after me. Our Forest Elves have nothing to do with you. Aren’t you afraid of retaliation from our Forest Elves if you trouble me like this?"
The cornered Elf Thief, with no way out, tensed up, preparing to break free from the encirclement at any moment. The four pursuers, aware of their opponent’s capabilities in this regard, hunched their bodies, ready to strike with a deadly blow.
"Princess Finitz, I think we shouldn’t waste too much time talking. Please, do not resist in vain. In front of us four, your resistance will only bring you unnecessary harm. We do not wish to hurt you, but you cannot provoke our control," one of them said with a slight smile, his tone polite but without any intention of answering her question.
"I don’t know why you’re stopping me. There’s no enmity between our Forest Elves and your Dark Elves. Do you really want to start a war?" The somewhat blusterous Elf Thief glanced around, still trying to threaten the others.
"Your Highness, no need to look around any longer. You cannot escape our encirclement. We’ve gone to great lengths for you. If you weren’t alone, we really wouldn’t have been able to make our move in Prague. Enough talk, surrender without further ado."
The four pursuers clearly lacked the patience to indulge in more idle chatter, they bent their bodies slightly and assumed an attack position, slowly advancing towards the Elf Thief at the center of the encirclement.
"Wait a minute! For what reason are you looking for me, exactly? If you truly have other motives, then don’t blame me if I jump down!" Taking a step back, the Elf Thief exclaimed urgently, peering toward Komer who had drawn near the four men with his light blue eyes.
Komer was slightly taken aback; this fellow’s senses were incredibly sharp, having realized his presence despite the invisibility from his air magic, something the four pursuers had yet to detect. However, the Elf Thief did not expose him, clearly with other intentions in mind.
Hearing such an almost rogue-like threat from the other party, the four pursuers hesitated. They did not want to push their quarry to a dead end, as that would truly incur the enmity of the Forest Elves. They simply wanted to achieve their objective, but now they worried that the Elf Thief would not cooperate. The leader faltered for a while before reluctantly saying, "Your Highness, our intent is not with you personally. Please, hand over the necklace around your neck and accompany us, and we promise not to harm you."
"So it’s true! It was indeed you who did it. You Dark Elves dare to act so recklessly; are you not afraid of inciting public anger?" Realizing the truth, the Elf Thief stared intently at the four and said word by word, "The Wave Bracelet of the Swamp Elves must have been stolen by you, and the Nine Heavens Hairpin of the Mountain Elves must also be your doing. What are you Dark Elves up to? Do you really want to bring about the extermination of your own lineage?"
"Enough, Princess Finitz, knowing too much might not be good for you. We Dark Elves have our own code of conduct and need no one to teach us. Whatever you think is irrelevant. What you should think about now is your own fate! Hand over the necklace, or else we will retract our promise not to harm you, and the consequences will be on you!"
The leader’s face suddenly changed, and his snow-white countenance grew grim, his gaze also fixed on the opponent, his hand slightly raised, clearly ready to launch an attack if the other party refused to comply.
With a giggle, as if suddenly relaxed, the Elf Thief carried a triumphant look, laughing nonchalantly, "Well, you might as well take care of my companions first before spouting grand words."
Before the sound of his voice faded, his gaze flicked unintentionally towards Komer’s resting spot, immediately drawing the pursuers’ attention, and their sensory awareness quickly converged on where Komer stood.
Komer knew that his Air Magic could only conceal his form but couldn’t evade these exceptionally perceptive Elves, especially when their attention was all focused on his location, he could no longer hide. Amidst the confused and uncertain gazes of the crowd, he boldly dispelled the Air Magic, standing quietly in front of everyone like the stillness of a grand mountain.
When Komer’s figure was revealed, all five pairs of eyes converged on him, each with a different expression.
The Elf Thief seemed to remember the identity of the man before him, his gaze somewhat panicked, but it was impossible to tell from his face, which seemed to have hidden its true color. However, from his attempts to avoid Komer’s gaze, it was evident that he felt inner turmoil and unease. The other four were clearly even more frightened. A Mortal had appeared silently behind them, and if it hadn’t been for the target’s reminder, they would not have noticed at all. For them, this was a staggering blow.
"Who are you? Why are you following us?" It was the leader among the pursuers who first realized something was wrong. At his subtle gesture, two companions quickly changed positions, forming a defensive angle, still firmly blocking the Elf Thief’s escape route. Another companion had already positioned himself behind him, and he himself took a step forward, staring intensely at Komer.
"Sorry, but I’m under no obligation to tell you who I am. As for why I’m here, it’s because the scenery is quite nice, and I thought I’d enjoy it a bit. Surely that’s not forbidden, is it? I haven’t heard that the Kingdom of Bohemia has declared this a restricted area, and you gentlemen don’t seem to be Bohemian court knights, do you?"
Komer retorted with a grin that did not reach his eyes, seizing the chance to observe the pursuers gathered before him. Although they were all cloaked in broad robes hiding their bodies, one could still discern their slender builds.
This was a natural hallmark of the Elf Clan; no elf would possess a cumbersome physique, and regardless of gender, ’slender and graceful’ could only be used colloquially for female Elves, while ’thin and frail’ would be the fitting description for males.
The leader had a penetrating gaze, his dark eyes shining faintly like obsidian, the light flickering like a snake’s slit pupils, his cheeks devoid of flesh, indicating the resolve and decisiveness of the elf’s character.
Sensing the mocking tone in Komer’s words, without any further ado, the leader’s palm moved slightly, and wind blades emerged at his fingertips, whistling fiercely as they furiously slashed towards Komer. The silver-white Elemental Magic of the Wind System condensed into blinding sword shadows, stirring up gusts of wind, forming angles aimed straight at Komer’s face.
Komer, momentarily taken aback, hadn’t expected that without another word, the opponent would strike to kill. This straightforward and sharp Wind Magic wasn’t complicated, but it was extremely practical—especially for Elves who were naturally talented in Elemental Magic when executed effortlessly without even needing a spell.
Komer grew angry. These Elves, bereft of manners, dared to execute a killer move in broad daylight, completely disregarding the laws of Mortal Society. If he did not teach them a lesson, they would truly believe that they could act with impunity.
His palm suddenly swept up as if grabbing something from the air, and the mud in front of him abruptly rose, instantly morphing into a giant Mud Giant Demon in mid-air. The whistling wind blades struck the Mud Giant Demon, spraying mud everywhere, but the dirt and dust almost immediately flew back to the Mud Giant Demon’s body, leaving no impact.
The Mud Giant Demon emitted gruff breathing sounds and lunged forward in an embrace, as if intending to ensnare the opponent, with its thunderous roar echoing through the valley. The pursuers clearly did not anticipate Komer to be so formidable; with just a gesture, even before they saw Komer chant any incantations, an earth-based spell had already taken shape.
