Chapter 518: Volume 12: Blazing Demonic Flames Chapter 9: Encirclement

The following days should be the most relaxing ones for Komer, though the whereabouts of the stone pendant that could stabilize Lome’s mind remains unknown. Yet this did not dampen Komer’s spirits, after all, even sacred artifacts can be reforged, but some things like friendship, love, and fate—if lost, can never be retrieved.

With Eve’s declaration of "I do," the doors to Komer’s long-sealed heart suddenly crack open, as if once more able to absorb the warmth of the brilliant sunshine. His mindset, unlike at any other time—even Vero’s presence fails to offer the same invigorating freshness.

To Komer, Vero resembles a tranquil spring; light and lingering, like green water flowing over bluestone, never fading. Yet, Eve brings an indescribable, gentle calmness, with a hint of light-heartedness as if breathing life into Komer’s very being, making even the skies of Prague seem much clearer in his heart, washed in azure and bathed in liquid sunshine—as if he had become much younger all at once.

Komer even noticed that his memory regarding magic had become extraordinarily clear, as his mood dramatically shifted. Things that once required much thought now easily came to mind. He knew this clarity was due to an unexpected surge in his spiritual power, breaking through a level he had struggled with, advancing into new heights and significantly improving his spiritual magic as well.

"Huh? He’s here, Komer, I can feel it—the Elf Thief is nearby!" Havier’s body tensed, his murmur transforming into a shout as his gaze darted around, indicating he had sensed their target was close by.

It was his natural gift that allowed him to survive among the thieves of the North. Though he had since reformed, this extraordinary ability hadn’t diminished. If the crowd weren’t so dense, he’d be able to pinpoint the thief’s location instantly.

They were in the central area of the Morsonas Monument District, where tourists had packed every nook and cranny to watch the magic competition. The area was so crowded that even moving was challenging; despite sensing that their target was within fifty meters, they stood amidst a sea of people, hundreds upon hundreds packed tightly together—how could one spot the thief in such conditions?

Komer was out with Havier and Bayezid, not worried about safety for the moment. Grace and Burianos needed to recuperate, their injuries healed but requiring reinforcement. Komer had prepared two secret concoctions to help them expel the stagnant inner qi and recover their condition quickly.

Lome, however, didn’t seem to be in the best of spirits. Komer vaguely suspected it was due to the changes in Eve’s and Grace’s attitudes towards him. Lome’s sharp spiritual sense had detected the barely perceivable feelings between Komer, Eve, and Grace, which affected her mood; she was still stabilizing her spiritual state which was easily influenced by emotional fluctuations. As for Komer, there was not much he could do about it; explanations were pointless and he had no desire to justify anything.

However, recovering the stone pendant could greatly aid in stabilizing Lome’s cultivation, and this was a major reason for his eagerness to find the lost object.

Havier’s words immediately put Komer on edge—this might be his only chance to retrieve what was stolen. The Morsonas Monument District was crowded, filled with magic practitioners and enthusiasts from all over the Continent, as well as tourists intrigued by the abilities that seemed incredible to them; even if they lacked the skills themselves, witnessing them would provide stories to share upon returning home.

If the crowd consisted only of ordinary tourists, Komer could have used his Saint Yuan Power to extend his spiritual sense and easily distinguish between normal people and magic practitioners. However, not all who came to watch the magic competition were simple spectators; many were magic practitioners with diverse kinds of magic powers flowing within them.

Komer was aware that the thief who stole his pendant would likely harbor wind magic power. Still, the area was filled with skilled practitioners from all over the Continent, and the intense aura of magic rendered any spiritual sense useless, leaving only Havier’s keen sense, sharper than that of hunting dogs, to rely on.

But Komer’s eyes did not rest; his gaze, sharp as a hawk’s, swept through the crowd inch by inch.

A skilled thief must be approachable yet unassuming, hiding in plain sight and possessing exceptional evasive and concealment skills to avoid detection and flee at the first sign of danger.

However, this Elf Thief did not seem to be of that caliber. When Havier’s eyes finally reflected a glimpse of joy, Komer’s spiritual sense swiftly tracked along the direction of that joyous gaze, capturing the target.

The target moved quickly, almost leaving the Morsonas Monument District, but this time his escape was evidently doomed. Before Komer and his team could catch up, four pursuers had already firmly attached themselves to the target’s trail.

Bayezid simply could not keep up with Komer and Havier’s speed. He could only run behind them with a flushed face. Even though Komer had cast an Acceleration Spell on him as he passed, it did not change the fact that the Dwarf warrior was falling behind step by step. At this point, Komer could no longer afford to care about anything else; if he missed this opportunity, he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself.

Land Soaring Technique was the most practical magic acceleration spell Komer had learned from Lome. This spell not only required a considerable amount of Light magic power but also demanded prowess in controlling Wind Magic, which was not a difficult feat for Komer. While Land Soaring Technique was easy to learn, to pursue its pinnacle, it required a deep mastery of both Light Magic and Wind Magic on the caster’s part.

Havier had never expected that Komer could actually keep up ahead of him. In his view, within the entire team, only he truly had the capability to chase down a Thief – only a thief could catch up with another thief.

In an actual wild chase, neither knights nor mages could compare with a thief in terms of speed and means of escape. Perhaps an assassin could barely match a thief in speed, but when it came to the methods of evasion, they were far less professional and rich in experience than thieves – after all, a thief’s two basic skills were stealing and escapism. A thief lacking the means to escape could only be called a bungler.

Like a breeze flitting before him, Komer’s magnificent Mage robe was merely a blur in front of Havier, gliding like an angel flying through the skies, graceful as a startled swan, here then gone in a flash. Havier found himself deploying Wind Magic in various places, but still, he could only follow in Komer’s wake. Each time he lightly touched the ground, he could use the force of the wind element to slide forward, but this unmatched elegance and swiftness couldn’t close the distance between him and Komer.

Looking at Komer’s receding figure, Havier couldn’t help but feel a wave of discouragement. This new companion was just too strong, whether it was in offensive magic or in these mixed skills that were a hybrid of magic and martial arts, he always had unexpectedly spectacular performances.

Komer had not imagined that his performance would bring so many reflections to the teammates behind him. His attention was now fully on the fleeing Elf Thief ahead and the four relentless pursuers. It had to be said that in terms of the potential for escaping, the Elf Thief was second to none, dodging up and down, left and right, even continuously changing his camouflage color among the bushes. If it wasn’t for the fact that the four pursuers behind him were equally fast and had sophisticated tracking methods, Komer estimated that he would have already lost the target if he were chasing alone.

Now, Komer could only closely follow the four pursuers. They had spread out into a fan-shaped encirclement, clearly determined to capture the target. The escapee in front seemed to realize this as well, frequently looking back and releasing various small spells in an attempt to disrupt the chasers behind.

However, his pursuers seemed to be quite experienced. The vines that suddenly sprang up from the ground or the side branches, and the trees that suddenly appeared in front of them couldn’t stop the chasers from continuing their pursuit. They were even gradually closing the distance between them, while the distance between Komer and the group in front was getting larger.

If it weren’t for what happened later, Komer believed he would have been unable to keep up. But as it often happens, the Elf Thief clearly did not know the terrain beyond the Monument District; the fan-shaped encirclement of pursuers soon began to tighten their net.

Because the Elf Thief had been driven into a dead-end – ahead was the famous Niagara Grand Cliff near Prague, a sheer drop of hundreds of feet high that looked as if it had been cleaved by the gods with their magic, standing proudly here. This was also quite a famous tourist spot, but now Morsonas Monument District drew more attention from visitors. The empty, uninhabited cliff edge became the perfect site for the hunt.

The four pursuers clearly hadn’t expected someone to be able to keep up with their pace, and indeed Komer could no longer do so. If they had continued their sprint for ten more minutes, Komer would have only been able to watch them disappear from his sight. But the Niagara Grand Cliff provided an opportunity for the pursuers and also allowed Komer a precious chance to catch up with the hunt.
