Chapter 510: Volume 12: Blazing Demonic Flames Chapter 1: Crisis Lurks Everywhere
The grand and majestic Morsonas Terrace had become a sea of people, with various magic tool merchants and material merchants setting up booths around the area to promote and sell their goods.
As the Magic City, the variety of magical equipment and tools here has always been the favorite of all magic practitioners, and even tourists can choose one or two magic decorations as gifts for their loved ones.
The surging crowd gathered in front of each terrace, watching the competitive matches that interested them. A three-meter-wide isolation zone was cordoned off around the square-shaped terraces, and magic scrolls were hung on tall wooden poles at the corners, forming a preemptive magic barrier to prevent combatants from accidentally losing control of their magic and causing harm to the audience below.
Although the arbitrator had repeatedly reminded the contestants not to release too much magic power before the competition, the arbitrator could predict the outcome based on their experience and perception of the skill and magic power gap between the contestants; however, this was only a prediction.
Every contestant wished to demonstrate their highest level, so the Mage Guild had no choice but to work with the Kingdom Mage Group to produce a large number of defensive magic scrolls in advance, placing them around the front of each terrace within a three-meter radius. Should the magic power fluctuation exceed a certain distance and intensity, the protective magic of the scrolls would be activated to protect the spectators from harm.
On this day, the entire Morsonas Terrace area turned into a stage of celebration. The citizens of Prague, magic practitioners enthusiasts from all over the Continent, and tourists all flocked here. The terrace area, which could accommodate tens of thousands of people, was still packed to the brim, with a level of excitement far beyond what the kingdom and the Mage Guild had anticipated.
Two middle-aged men who had been standing in the shadows watched as a group of people emerged from the Sofala Inn. They only sneaked out after the last of the group had disappeared into the stream of people on the streets.
"What should we do? The security in Prague is very strict now. The Bohemian Palace Knights are all out patrolling the streets, and the Morsonas Terrace area is a key focus, where the Court Mage Corps is also present. I’m worried that taking action there might backfire," the man wrapped tightly in a white scarf said with a muffled voice.
"Of course, we can’t do it there. The Bohemian Court Mage Corps is not to be trifled with. Those guys are all incredibly powerful, and once they intervene, you’ll have no chance of escape. If you want to take action, you have to choose either on their way from the inn to the terrace area, or you have to wait until these days pass and they leave Prague," the other man, covered in a black robe from head to toe and appearing somewhat hunched, spoke with a sinister coldness in his words.
"Leave Prague? Who knows when they’ll leave, and besides, these guys seem to be recruiting more people. These two new additions are probably the hands they’ve recruited in the past two days, which just adds to the trouble. If we’re going to do it, we need to do it soon, we can’t delay any longer," the man with the white scarf decided firmly.
"Right, these guys have found two new helpers from who knows where. It seems they also anticipate that we would find them, so they’re frantically pulling in more people to reinforce themselves. I have a feeling there’s something off about these two newcomers, a man and a woman so young, the man sneaky, the woman, however, has never been seen talking to strangers, like a mute," the man in the black robe pondered, "It’s better for us to be cautious. Let them bring a few more people. We’ll support from both ends, hold off any Bohemian Magic Knights who might come to help, and seize the opportunity for a successful strike. Them being together also makes it easier for us to make a move."
"When do you plan to make your move?" the man with the white scarf turned and asked.
"Let’s decide on their way back in the afternoon. For now, we can go and choose a spot for the ambush," the man in the black robe said faintly.
The excited group was still talking about today’s competition at the terrace, and though it was just the first day and the real powerhouses wouldn’t usually show up yet, the myriad of magical duels had still been an eye-opener for them all. Even Komer and Lome couldn’t stop singing praises.
The magic competition was divided into several major categories: elemental magic, spiritual magic, starry sky magic, light magic, healing magic, and other magics. The singular magic types were mainly for show, while the comprehensive tests which were the focus of the competition took place on several terraces around the central grand terrace. It was there that the comprehensive duels would unfold to determine the ultimate victors.
Everybody, including Komer, was unaware of how fierce and swift the enemy’s attack was. When Komer’s spiritual sense detected a distortion in the spatial power around them, he knew that they had stepped into an attack magic array set up by the enemies.
Countless leaping illusions danced in the air, transforming into numerous figures that charged at them. This was "Void Illusion," a light magic illusion technique, which could interfere with the victim’s vision and provide cover for the real attack.
Almost immediately, Komer silently recited spells to strengthen the defensive abilities of all his allies, but the effectiveness of such universal protection was quite limited. The enemy chose this moment to launch an attack with illusion magic, clearly intending to mask a physical attack, which was what mages feared the most. Komer could even feel the murderous aura emanating from the assassins behind the illusion.
At this time, Lome fully demonstrated her adaptability, casting a series of small Light Holy Shields around the group. Although it was impossible to pinpoint the exact location of the enemy’s assault, these sporadic shields could still interfere with and hinder the efficiency of the enemy’s attacks.
Bayezid watched with a sinister smile as the assassins leaped out from the illusions before him.
With the support of two mage companions, he felt his confidence surge.
The giant axe, lifted with vigor, brought fierce wind in its wake, showing no fear of the approaching stiletto. He forcefully cleaved at the enemy’s body, forcing the attacker to contort in midair to dodge this life-risking strike.
The azure blade of the axe suddenly burst forth with a strand of dark fire starlight, carrying an eerie tail-fin mirage, and shot swiftly into the fleeting silhouette of the enemy.
The assassin, thinking he had avoided disaster, did not expect that the Dwarf Warrior’s giant axe could unleash such a blue star, which penetrated his body without hindrance. The snug leather armor was completely powerless to stop the spirit-like dark fire starlight. The agile body stiffened in midair, falling straight down like a frozen glass artifact, shattering into pieces upon hitting the ground, limbs and torso scattered everywhere, beyond anyone’s imagination that this was the assassin who had been lively just moments ago.
In a blur of motion, Komer positioned himself in front of two assassins lunging at the young female priests. The black shiny stiletto blades glinted with a strange light, and a white, hazy light mist indicated that both assassins had entered the realm of Martial Arts. Somewhat surprised by the assassins’ prowess but without hesitation, Komer’s fingers flicked, and two large wooden shields suddenly appeared in front of him. The stilettos pierced into the shields, friction causing a piercing screech.
At this time, Komer once again demonstrated his powerful Wood Magic strength. Two vines, like agile pythons, shot out from thin air, twisting and coiling around the two figures in the sky.
The assassins, caught off guard, clearly did not expect such a mage to be among their targets. The thick vines instantly entangled the two assassins, pulling them down to the ground, and at this moment, Komer showed no mercy. With a continuous flicking of his fingers, countless sparks collided in midair, forming a dense net of fire that imprisoned the two struggling assassins, the heat of the flames even perceivable by the female priests behind Komer.
The assassins, too, displayed their exceptional strength at this moment. A burst of crimson Fighting Qi suddenly erupted from them, shattering the thick vines in an instant. The dark, corrosive vine sap failed to penetrate their bodies, being blown away by the Fighting Qi. Their agile figures tumbled and maneuvered through the air at high speed, their stilettos clashing, ringing with a metallic sound, and sparks flying, forming two lightning-like chains of light sweeping towards Komer.
Komer realized he had underestimated these two assassins; they were not only within the Martial Arts Realm but could even be called experts. The unobstructed Fighting Qi tore through the Light Shields Lome had erected for him, and it seemed these two youngsters were determined to cut him and the Priest behind him into pieces.
Taking a sudden step back, he heard a startled gasp that abruptly stopped. Komer was distinctly aware of the comforting pressure against his back from two soft spheres in that moment.
The one who gasped behind him was, of course, Eve. He hadn’t expected that this seemingly pure and elegant girl would possess a pair so unimaginably full, likely not much smaller than Grace’s almost bursting bosom. The thought flashed through Komer’s mind, but the next moment, two substantial swords of Fighting Qi were swiftly approaching his body, and any lapse in attention could result in the Priest of unique identity behind him being turned into mutilated corpse segments.
Two giant skeletons appeared without warning in front of the oncoming Light Swords, as the massive Scythe of Death swept up engulfing black mist.
The Light Sword and black scythe clashed, the entire space seeming to twist with violent fluctuations at that moment, and Komer could clearly see the eyes of the assassins filled with pain and despair.
