Chapter 465: Volume 10: Thunderous Movements and Winds Rising, Chapter 1: Unexpected Joy_2
The dragon scales from the neck to the belly looked like natural armor, with palm-sized scales densely packed in a swirling pattern, expanding outward in circles, covering the entire neck, chest, and abdomen securely.
The thick spine rose high and then ingenously dipped in the middle, perfectly accommodating one or two people sitting down, essentially nature’s own cushion, and from the bulging muscles, one could tell the immense strength of the large and powerful hind hooves; the foreclaws, while not as robust as the hind hooves, brandished another potent weapon with their sharp talons.
Suppressing the joy in his heart, Komer walked over to the two young dragons, scrutinized them carefully, and couldn’t help wanting to touch their smooth skin, but their wary glances and ready-to-bite stance instead caused Komer to chuckle at himself.
"Sir, please do not approach them casually, doing so is rather dangerous. These two young dragons have just hatched less than two months ago, their vigilance and vengeful nature are both extremely strong, be careful not to get hurt by them,"
Seeing Komer’s intent, the towering man who delivered the dragons was Komer’s old friend, Volen. Having gone to great lengths to gift two young dragons to the other as a gesture of goodwill from his people and tribe, it would be a serious loss if these untamed young dragons were to injure the recipient.
"Is that so? I find these two little fellows quite cute and not at all as dangerous as you claim,"
With a light smile, Komer’s eyes remained fixed on the two young dragons staring back with vigilant and fierce gazes, quietly circulating his magic power, a sharp light suddenly appeared in his eyes, and his whole demeanor instantly changed, catching the surrounding Half-Beastman Guards and the barbarian emissaries off guard as they felt the Lord beside them suddenly become a completely different person, seemingly unapproachable and carrying an immense pressure that seemed to distance him from everyone else.
To Volen, who was closest to Komer, this sensation was even more pronounced. The immense, intangible pressure involuntarily made him step back and nearly bow in reverence—a strange thought that he could hardly believe until he saw the two young dragons’ reaction.
Under Komer’s gaze, the two young dragons became suddenly panic-stricken, as if they had seen something that terrified them immensely. As Komer’s aura continued to change, their demeanor did as well and transformed gradually. They resembled lambs awaiting slaughter until Komer altered his aura again and the young dragons lifted their heads once more, now gazing at Komer with reverence, while he, unabashedly, stroked their heads and even gently pinched the budding horn of one of the young dragons.
The group of barbarian warriors watched the unfolding scene in disbelief. How was it possible?
They simply could not fathom how someone could casually pet these young dragons like their keeper; even their most familiar caretakers or tamers would not dare to touch their horns. Not to mention, these were two young dragons!
For young dragons not yet fully adapted to the outside world, any action that stimulated them could provoke an attack, and the horns were their most vulnerable and cherished area—merely touching them could trigger a vicious retaliation. Yet now, these two creatures were submitting to this mortal they had met for the first time, even sticking out their tongues to lick his palm, almost as a submissive gesture. It was nothing short of a miracle!
Two of the barbarian soldiers even rubbed their eyes vigorously, questioning if they were seeing correctly. The whole scene seemed to be an invisible performance promoting Komer’s stature.
Only Volen had a slight idea about what was happening; he knew that this Lord was showcasing a piece of advanced magic before him and his subordinates.
Although he did not know why the two young dragons had become so submissive and tame, the pressure and momentum they exuded in an instant was not directed at him, and he had unconsciously avoided it, which clearly was a manifestation of casting a magic spell.
He never expected that even Earthwalking Dragons, which were regarded as divine beasts within his tribe, would bow their heads in submission to this man, which inevitably led to feelings of depression in Volen’s heart while also filling him with greater hope for his mission.
Volen’s guess was correct, Komer had indeed used his refined Psychic Magic, "Sovereign Might," in front of the young dragons.
This was a type of Psychic Magic that relied entirely on spiritual power, not only demanding high requirements for mental magic power but also imposing strict demands on the caster’s mental fluctuations and understanding. It was also an improvement Komer had made after receiving the Magic Origin of Kennifer III and assimilating the magical knowledge system of Kennifer III, combined with some Psychic Magic books he had obtained from Damarlinsk Castle.
This Psychic Magic "Sovereign Might" was incomparable to the basic "Pressure" spells Komer had mastered before in terms of both power and difficulty. Komer had intentionally wanted to test whether this Psychic Magic would be effective in front of non-human creatures.
According to Komer’s speculation, any animal with a certain level of intelligence and thought should be affected by this kind of Psychic Magic.
As expected, the two young dragons submitted and bowed their heads before his strong psychic presence. Seeing even the insuppressible dragons submitting before him, Komer even felt a surge of impulse that he could dominate the Continent at will, though of course, this was only a fleeting moment, especially considering these were just Earthwalking Dragon younglings.
Komer finally withdrew his hand from petting the young dragons and slowly retracted the Psychic Magic. This type of advanced Psychic Magic was extremely draining on spiritual power and not suitable for prolonged use. Additionally, imposing "Sovereign Might" on these young dragons he had high hopes for over too long a period could suppress their naturally violent temperament, which would be beneficial for taming, but also impact the Earthwalking Dragons’ innate attack power.
Komer hoped that they could be trained in the same way the Barbarians trained Earth Dragon Warriors, so he too could possess an armed force of Earthwalking Dragons that could traverse both the Homer region and the Kingdom of Nicosia, even if it were a small force.
Volen observed Komer’s expression carefully, noting Komer’s fondness for the two young dragons; however, he seemed somewhat dissatisfied, probably due to the insufficiency in number, which made Volen slightly anxious.
He knew this neighbor to the north had a big appetite. Last time, he had proposed that the Alliance help him build a small squad of Earth Dragon Warriors, which would require at least five to seven adult Earthwalking Dragons. This request not only sparked debate within the Garong Tribe but also caused an uproar within the Alliance.
Several tribes, hoping to quickly gain access to northern food and weapons trade permissions, showed limited support, but the majority of tribe chiefs were firmly opposed. In their view, if Mountain People lost control over Earth Dragon Warriors, their strongest armed forces, to Mortals, the Mountain People would lose their martial advantage over Mortals and eventually become slaves to them.
Yet, the tribes that showed limited support believed that given the current circumstances, where the Mountain People were besieged and blockaded by an alliance of Mortals and other races, they would become increasingly isolated and weak.
Although the Cordillera Wilderness was rich in natural resources, it had two fatal weaknesses that tightened around the necks of the Mountain People like a noose. The first was a severe food shortage. In years of bumper harvests on the Cordillera Wilderness, the food produced was barely sufficient for seventy percent of their needs, with the rest having to be supplemented by smuggling and hunting, and the deficit was even greater in average years.
