Chapter 453: Volume 9: Phantom of the Ancient Castle Chapter 10: Counterattack

Surprise, shock, tension, and fear successively flickered across the faces of the magicians, who were almost at a loss for what to do. They couldn’t fathom how their once-brilliant achievements could fail so suddenly, especially a few Magicians who were utterly baffled. However, it was the leading Mage who first realized that there could be only one reason for this result: a Magic Practitioner more powerful than themselves was hidden nearby!

Only now did they realize just how foolish it was to stand so unguarded in front of the soldiers, overconfident in their abilities, and the price of such foolishness was their lives.

Before the Mage’s Protective Shields could even take form, two dark figures shot out from the ranks of the Half-beast Warriors. Knight Spears, filled with fighting qi, tore through the sky with a strange whistling sound. Faint black energy enveloped the dark figures as the spears easily shattered the Protective Shields conjured from Magic Scrolls.

The Mages, totally unprepared for such a deadly encounter, had no Magic Scrolls ready that could withstand a blow from the Dark Knights. As the Knight Spear penetrated a Mage and drew blood in an eerily beautiful pattern of a rose blossoming in the air in front of his chest, it was only then that Commander of the Warrior Baron Haranto realized that his Mages had just been assassinated right before his very eyes.

The deaths of two companions bought the Chief Magician of this campaign time and opportunity, with the murderous intent and fighting qi bursting forth from the assassins almost splitting his soul with terror.

Facing the assassins in close-quarters combat, the Magician stood no chance, and it was almost a subconscious act of self-preservation that made him cast the Earth Escape Technique faster than he ever had. To merge with the earth as quickly as possible, the Magician almost spent all his magic power in one breath — perhaps the only explanation was that this was a flight for life, not a casual spar.

The earth magician who had summoned the Earth Elemental Giants and cast Hell Devourer vanished in the blink of an eye before his very eyes, causing Sault to feel somewhat annoyed as he used his Spiritual Sense to detect the mage’s escape route.

It was clear that this individual was not only a genuine master of earth-based magic but also an exceptionally cunning and desperate survivor. By the time Sault’s Spiritual Sense locked onto the fleeing mage’s path and presence, the mage had already burrowed deep beneath the feet of the Homer Soldiers. Unless he dispatched the several thousand soldiers in front of him, there was no telling where his quarry might flee to by that time.

The Magicians who had never witnessed such a bloody and terrifying scene were watching helplessly as their revered powerhouses transformed into Corpses. It was only when the shadow wrapped in black made his spear flicker and once again swept across the throat of another companion that they realized the target was their group of Magic Practitioners!

The sight of magicians scrambling in all directions seemed utterly meaningless to the two Dark Knights. It was a fool’s dream for these naive Magicians to think they could escape before them. Yet the Knight Spear of Baron Haranto and Balmore along with the Combat Knives of several high-level warriors stayed the further actions of the Dark Knights.

Especially with Baron Haranto, whose neutral fighting qi was on the verge of breakthrough and almost visible around him, posed an itch to the Dark Knights, who held no regard for the status of nobility. The stimulation from killing was all they craved.

Haranto knew he had to stop the two assassins from further action. The one-strike death of the two Mages terrified him; these were the Duke’s prized assets, and dying so senselessly on the Battlefield would leave him, the Battlefield Commander, unable to face the Duke even if he won this battle. The only solution was to slay the two assassins and then blame the somewhat careless Magicians — but first and foremost, the assassins had to be eliminated.

A pale blue light almost radiated through his body as a sign that Haranto was nearing the door to neutral fighting qi. His Knight Spear followed the dark shadow that was slaughtering the Magicians, while dozens of high-level warriors formed a tight defensive circle, preventing the two dark figures from wreaking havoc in their ranks.

These high-level warriors were clearly specially trained. Their determined expressions and the strong murderous aura they exuded proved they were among the elite forces of the Homer Army.

Each step they took was accompanied by a wave of sword glints and blade flurries that surged toward the two Dark Knights. While Sault and Vladimir Koff had fought across the Continent, they had never faced a charge from such a large group of regular army high-level warriors. For a moment, they were unsure how to respond.

Dodging Baron Haranto’s pursuit with the Knight Spear, Sault employed his Dark Magic for protection almost immediately, enshrouding his body in a dark mist that made his figure blurry and indistinct. Meanwhile, Vladimir Koff was continuously channeling his inner power to increase his speed, with acceleration magic creating afterimages of his movements.

However, the highly trained warriors, evidently experienced with such tactics, were not swayed. They advanced steadily, adhering to their rhythm and timing, pushing forward with waves of sword tide-like mercury, making even the Dark Knights, despite their blinding methods, retreat before the combined might of numerous Combat Knives and long swords. Not to mention that they were being relentlessly pursued by two formidable knights.
