Chapter 446: Volume 9: Phantom of the Ancient Castle Chapter 7: Entering the Cocoon
"You want to go to Leon? Is it really necessary?" Although he raised his eyebrows, the disheveled mage did not seem very surprised, as if he had anticipated Komer’s actions, "How will you arrange things here in the Caucasus then? And you must thoroughly consider the matter of Mage Lome."
"I have no choice at this point. Homer’s army from Bruce Fortress has already begun to mobilize, and those fools in Leon are certainly no match for the Army of Homer. If we do not intervene to help them in time, I fear they will soon be destroyed."
Komer had given this decision much thought, direct involvement would only provide Homer with a better excuse and a larger scale of troop reinforcement. His own limited forces were no match for Homer, more so since Leon’s mob forces were already formidable, lacking only the experience to contend with a regular army and some necessary guidance. Of course, the issue of training couldn’t be resolved immediately; they would have to rely on their ample manpower to compensate.
"Are you worried that Homer will take this opportunity to use troops against the Caucasus?" Nodding his head, Rebry understood the other’s concerns, well aware that preparing for a rainy day is something every ruler must consider.
"It’s not just a possibility, it’s a certainty. Philip won’t tolerate such an insubordinate force as our Caucasus here, especially now that the tail seems to be wagging the dog. If I were Philip, I too would seize this chance to eradicate a problem at its bud stage," Komer nodded lightly, "So I must stop the enemy at the gates, preventing Homer’s army from crossing Leon, which means helping those mobs to block Homer’s routes."
"Do you think those mob forces can withstand Homer’s army?" Rebry also lacked faith in the mobs’ ability to stand against Homer’s army.
"Without our help, of course not, but with our intervention, everything is possible. Thus, I need your help," Komer said, nodding with a smile.
Now was the time for these mages and Dark Knights to prove their worth; otherwise, there would be no point in maintaining such forces at great expense. Although it seemed like they were helping the mob, in reality, they were defending the Caucasus and had to fulfill their responsibilities.
With a slight smile, Rebry nodded indifferently, "No problem, Lord. We will fulfill our promise. How do you need our help?"
"I hope you can join me in entering Leon. My intelligence officers have already secured their positions there, so we need not worry about exposure. We just need to provide guidance to the others at the necessary time. Besides, it seems Philip has also sent three mages to help suppress the mobs. Perhaps by that time, we will need to find a quiet place for these mages."
Komer smiled sinisterly, seemingly sensing an eager anticipation in the other. Leaning back in his chair, he snapped his fingers in a not-so-gentlemanly manner.
"Heh, Your Excellency the Baron, you have considered everything very meticulously. I will say it again, there’s no problem. We too would like to weigh the level of Homer’s mages. When do you plan to depart?"
Rebry still wore his lazy and impassive expression, but the joy in his heart shone clearly through his eyes. A chance for an unregulated magical duel was eagerly awaited, as it allowed full exploration and exhibition of one’s abilities in offense, defense, and evasion. And with so many troops providing a testing ground for large-scale attack magic, it was a rare opportunity, one Rebry was not willing to miss.
"Very soon, within the next few days, I reckon. I’d like Mr. Mihailovich, Solonberg, Vladimir Koff, and yourself to accompany me. As for Mr. Newman, his strengths do not lie here; it’s best he stays at Damarlinsk Castle to examine those secret paths and mechanisms in the underground palace."
Komer stood and embraced his counterpart, finalizing their plan, "I also need to make arrangements for Mage Lome. Our departure may be for quite some time, perhaps as long as a month."
"Hehe, Your Excellency the Baron, how is your research on the Light Mage coming along?" At the mention of the mysterious magician, Rebry’s eyes sparkled with interest, clearly intrigued by Komer’s experiments.
"Heh, Mr. Rebry, rest assured, progress has been made. Once I have fully grasped all the details about her and everything she knows of the Church of Light, I can completely erase her memory. She will soon become a shining new star among our Dark Mages, an unconventional new star! Hahahaha!" They exchanged looks, the meaningful words resonating between the two, with sneers and grim smiles emerging simultaneously on Rebry’s and Komer’s lips.
Reassessing the girl before him who was trapped in a half-bewildered state, with eyes that alternated between clarity and confusion, revealing her complete loss of self-awareness, Komer knew this was exactly the state he needed.
The progress in the past two days hadn’t been significant, but Komer had managed to trace the flow of the girl’s deep-seated magic power and spiritual depth. With his current level of spiritual power, he was not yet able to fully control the girl’s spirit. He had to rely on the Black Crystal Staff he had recently acquired.
