Chapter 399: Volume 8 Gathering of the Storms Chapter 2 Three’s Company_4

"A barren wasteland? Tracy, your words seem a bit unrealistic. Just look at what’s before us. I doubt that Odessa on the Busen Plains is any better, and take a look at the ships moored at the dock. Hmm, see those ships over there? You can tell by the markings they are from the Freeman Family fleet. They’ve also taken an interest in this place? And those ships over there with the Pegasus emblem, that’s the unmistakable sign of the Montague Family. I’ve heard they’ve monopolized the food trade from Homer to the vast Continent. Oh, it seems no one is willing to let go of the business opportunities that are brewing here. This is the barren land you were speaking of? I truly can’t grasp the sense of humor of you Cyprus people, to actually describe such a bustling harbor as a barren wasteland." For some reason the girl felt an indescribable aversion to the woman who had appeared before the cabin door. Perhaps it was her dislike for her deliberately mystifying demeanor, or her distaste for that flirtatious charm. The girl realized her tone was a bit too harsh as soon as the words left her mouth.

Tracy raised her eyebrows in surprise, perhaps unsure about what she had done to provoke such a response, and chose not to answer directly, instead pondering the implications behind the girl’s words. The young man who had stood up also frowned slightly, clearly dissatisfied with the unusual behavior of his normally composed sister.

"Oh, Renta, what I was referring to was the Caucasus of a year ago. No one could have predicted the incredible changes that have taken place here over the past half a year. Take a look, when has Mattdam ever been marked as a harbor on the old sea maps?" Tracy spread her hands elegantly, a strange smile on her face, "Perhaps Komer really is as capable as the rumors suggest. In less than a year as Lord, he has transformed the Caucasus entirely. You both wanted to see this transformation of the Caucasus, didn’t you? If it were still the same as before, I suppose you would be quite disappointed."

Even the young man picked up on the insinuation in her words, as if she was hinting at the real purpose of their visit to the Caucasus. His expression changed subtly, and he agreed, "Indeed, the Caucasus was previously insignificant. Why has it gained such renown in such a short time? It shows that this Komer must have some methods. Tracy, since you’re so familiar with him, why have I never heard you mention him before?"

This time, it was Tracy’s turn to be taken aback. Compared to seasoned players like Hoffman who lingered in the constant court struggles, her own scheming was evidently superficial. Directly confronted about her sore point, a point she could not readily reveal, especially to him, she knew that their betrothal was bound to hit some roadblocks. But Tracy was not ready to give up, especially after investing so much. She refused to resign herself to becoming a mere plaything.

"Enough, I think we should stop this idle chatter. That knight on the dock is most likely an official from Mattdam. Judging by the looks of it, he’s here to welcome us. We should get ready to disembark," the girl interjected aptly, easing the somewhat tense atmosphere in the cabin. With a swift glance around, Tracy smiled gracefully, "Renta is right, we shouldn’t let our host wait anxiously. It would seem ungracious of us."
