"Oh, is that so? But the last time we met, I didn’t notice anything particularly special about him." A cold laugh escaped the girl’s lips, her emerald eyes laced with a hint of mockery, "But it seems that Tracy and he are quite close. The two seem very familiar with each other."

"Mm, that’s quite normal. One is the daughter of a duke, the other the son of a finance officer, with similar ages. It’s not strange at all." The young man shrugged, appearing indifferent.

Glimpsing toward the door, the girl lowered her voice, "Hoffman, when do you plan on making things clear with Tracy? Are you going to drag it out a while longer?"

"The decision is not in my hands, as you know. It depends on what my father and his men decide." The young man’s face flashed with annoyance, and his voice dropped, "Now, with Leon in chaos and that old man Philip seemingly preoccupied, my father and his advisers are probably plotting something. They have yet to make a clear stance on the matter. However, both Duke Tez and Duke Mathew are against it, and you are well aware of their influence over my father."

"Hmph, you should never have gotten engaged to her in the first place. I don’t know what you saw in her, just a little vixen. You can tell she’s a flirt, no different from Katya." Disdainful, the girl glanced at her half-brother, her tone increasingly contemptuous: "Her scandalous affairs with Baron Komer are well-known in Cyprus. Probably because of her, Baron Komer was forced by Philip to leave his home in exile. Yet, she acts all ladylike in front of us. But can paper contain fire?"

Indifferent to the matter, the handsome young man quickly changed the subject, "Sigh, some things are difficult to clarify in the moment. Tracy knows her own secrets. Since she deceived me first, she can’t blame me for breaking off the engagement later. We’re even. Now it’s just a matter of waiting for my father’s final edict."

"Did you really not know about her disgraceful secrets beforehand? Don’t make me laugh. I think you had your eye on her and saw a chance to have your fun, but did you not think how Philip would be willing to quietly swallow such a loss? I think you’d better come up with a good counterstrategy!" The girl retorted with no warmth in her tone, leaving the young man speechless for a moment and unsure how to respond.

Finally, some commotion started at the dock. The bustling merchants and dock workers all turned their gaze toward this area. A fully-armed platoon of soldiers in helmets and armor rumbled into the dock area and quickly began to assemble and form lines. The eyes of both the young man and girl were drawn to the soldiers. The towering figures above mortal soldiers, the heavy tower shields, broad thick-backed long swords, and black iron spears glistening under the sunshine were especially striking. They could even see the grim expressions on the soldiers’ faces, stern and unforgiving. The dust kicked up by their marching filled the air around the dock.

A knight galloped up from behind the soldiers, dismounted with a graceful leap, and began talking to the people who had just disembarked from the ship.

A series of soft footsteps came from the deck outside the cabin. Turning their heads, they saw a companion lazily standing at the cabin door: "What, has Komer sent someone to welcome us?"

The woman’s exposed neck and collar were as smooth and white as ancient eastern porcelain. Her tender skin seemed to remind the young man of the many times he had ridden her, indulging in her without growing tired of it. With Hoffman, this woman was truly an exquisite pleasure, and although he had not tasted her first, he was reluctant to give up such a bed partner. The feelings this woman brought him in bed were simply too delightful. While it might be challenging to take her as his wife, as a lover, she was unparalleled. However, just as Renta said, sometimes it’s tough to extricate oneself once entangled. Perhaps it was time to consider how to break free.

The girl harbored an indescribable disgust for the woman standing before her siblings but had to admit that the demeanor the woman presented was indeed deadly to men. No wonder both the baron and her brother would grovel at her skirt. A trace of jealousy subtly passed through her heart. Despite her disdain for such a woman, her own insecuriy was hard to hide. She was far superior to this woman in talent, looks, and status; why then did men only have eyes for her when they were together? If it weren’t for this special relationship, the girl might well have felt compelled to confront her about the reason.

"Oh, Tracy, that might be something you should be asking us, shouldn’t it? It should be us asking you instead, since this is the territory of the Homer region after all." A smile played across the young man’s handsome face.

"Hmph, I’ve never come to this godforsaken place before. Not me, and not my father either. Usually, we just send a few tax officers to check annually; who would come to such a wilderness for no reason?" Tracy’s lips curled into a smile revealing her charming dimples, making the young man’s heart skip a beat.
