Chapter 347: Volume 6: Cautious Planning Chapter 8: Earthwalking Dragon Warrior
"Mr. Wollin, it seems that these ogres have gone into a frenzy. I fear your warriors will struggle to inflict significant damage on the ogres with these weapons. The ogre’s weak spots are under their arms as well as their groin and throat. Ordinary weapons can’t harm their other parts." Ilot couldn’t help expressing his urgency as he watched the ogres charge through the defense lines as if no one was there. He was carrying several skins stripped from ogres, and if these creatures managed to break through the encirclement, their keen sense of smell would probably target him first.
"Mr. Ilot, there’s no need to teach us how to fight these magical beasts. We’ve dealt with them for much longer than you mortals, and we’re well aware of their weaknesses. But look, six ogres, they have adapted to our attacks, and the uneven terrain makes it hard to form a complete encirclement. These cunning creatures use the terrain to their advantage to tear through our defenses. Plus, we didn’t expect to encounter ogres on this patrol, let alone eight of them. It’s just our bad luck. This area wasn’t known for any special magical beasts, yet here we are, facing them. It’s fortunate we were on patrol and had enough hands, otherwise it would have been troublesome. It’s just too bad our Mountain Soldiers’ weapons are somewhat inferior; otherwise, we would have already disposed of these ogres. Now, it seems I must take a turn." He picked up his dark and thick-waisted chopper with some affection, and the shiny knife edge flickered with a chill in the sunshine. Taking a deep breath, the burly man tightened his sturdy armor before saying, "Gentlemen, I have no authority to decide on the boundary dispute, but since Lordship has provided proof, I believe our Great Chieftain will give you a fair and just settlement. Once we’ve dealt with these ogres, I will discuss this with you in detail."
Having said that, he was about to step forward when "Wait, Mr. Wollin!"
Komer’s call halted Wollin, who was ready to join the fray. By now, the ogres were stretching the Barbarian Warriors’ encirclement wider and wider, occasionally dragging a Barbarian Warrior into their ranks with the support of other ogres. The robust Barbarian Warriors were like puppets in the hands of the incredibly strong ogres, effortlessly torn apart, their bloodied innards flung onto the ground. The thick stench of blood mixed with the poison gas emitted from the ogres’ underarm poison glands, permeating the entire Battlefield, giving off a sensation of descending into hell even under the bright sunshine.
"Lord, do you need something else? I have business to attend to, anything else can wait until this problem is resolved." Wollin interrupted Komer impatiently, becoming increasingly anxious as he saw several warriors fall to the ogres’ claws. The combat strength of this group of ogres was incredibly formidable, far surpassing their previous encounters with the ancestors of these ogres—the Dread Apes. Compared to the Dread Apes, which were outwardly more terrifying, they paled in every aspect, from intelligence to defense to attack power. The two ogres they managed to kill were due solely to the Earth Dragon Warriors’ ambush tactics, a spear through the throat, but now the ogres had heightened their defenses against the Earth Dragon Warriors. The grouped infantry not only hindered the Earth Dragon Warriors’ performance, but the dragons’ large activity range also created constant gaps in the infantry’s lines. Nonetheless, the burly man felt helpless; he couldn’t risk dispersing the infantry, for if the ogres broke through, they would be forced to fight independently, which could lead to the annihilation of the entire army.
"I have a suggestion. Perhaps the Earth Dragon Warriors could temporarily withdraw from the battlefield, and the Mountain Soldiers could tighten the encirclement. Don’t launch attacks, just use thick shields to bolster the defense to prevent their escape, then have outsiders attack, forcing them into a dilemma. Next, open a single avenue to entice them to escape through it, and concentrate our forces to execute them!" Komer also recognized the dire situation. If they let the ogres escape, he and Ilot would be equally doomed. The only option was to unite and deal with this problem first, and perhaps in doing so, he might even earn the Barbarians’ gratitude. After all, the Barbarians believed in repaying even the smallest kindness with a spring of benevolence. By helping them save their lives, he believed the reward they would give him wouldn’t be insignificant. Deciding on this course of action, Komer thought as much.
