Chapter 307: Volume 5 Lord’s Path Chapter 1 Immigrants_4
"Father, you can’t speak like that. The Busen Plain may indeed be fertile and rich, but the stretch from Ugru to Mattdam in our Caucasus is flat as well, it’s just that no one has ever bothered to reclaim it. All we need to do is burn the shrubs and cultivate the cleared land, and in no more than two years, our Caucasus would be self-sufficient in food. And to the south of our Caucasus, there are iron and coal mines, which the Busen Plain does not have. If we could really mine them, the situation could improve significantly!" Neptune, dissatisfied with his father’s lack of enthusiasm, frowned and somewhat rudely interrupted his father.
"Mr. Hesse, forgive my frankness, but while there may be some truth to your words, I think if we all held your attitude, our homeland of the Caucasus might never change. Do you really want the Caucasus to stay like this forever?" Puber, who had recently developed a good private relationship with Neptune, shared the same youth and passion. The only difference was that Neptune had more idealism, while Puber’s depth stemmed from a wealth of frustrating experiences.
Shaking his head in resignation, Hesse had come to accept the ambitious ideas of the new Lord who was about to make his mark in the Caucasus, but he did not believe it would be an easy task. The geographical conditions of the Caucasus were somewhat unique, with barbarians in the south, pirates to the east, and the Great Swamp area firmly controlled by the Jellyfish People to the west. The only way out seemed to be to the north. In such conditions, how could these young men think things are so simple? Was it that he himself had been worn down by time, or were the young simply too hot-blooded? Hesse couldn’t be sure at that moment.
In the late autumn, the Caucasus, though cool, seemed far from cold, and sometimes still carried the taste of late summer. The vast expanse of forest also entered the harvest season during this time, with animals having fattened up, making it the golden season for hunting. And with the crisp autumn air, it was the perfect time for felling trees and preparing logs for winter.
Since the Lord’s departure, the people of the Caucasus, whether from Ugru to Mattdam or from Darman Pass to Bahomon in the southwest corner, could feel the region changing every day, especially around Ugru Town. The residents noticed that more and more outsiders were claiming their legal citizen rights certificates from the temporary Administrative Officer, the Hesse father and son, after the Lord left. They began reclaiming land and building houses along the roads on the outskirts of the town. Most of them came from the surrounding areas but were predominantly Half-Beastmen from the nearby mountainous region.
Although the townspeople were skeptical about why so many Half-Beastmen were suddenly entering the land, they realized that a significant number of Indigenous People were already Half-Beastmen, and the Caucasus had always been a region of racial diversity. Once the representatives verified the legitimacy of their identity proofs, no one cared about the matter anymore, especially since it paled in comparison to the news coming back from Versailles. The rumor that the Lord would bring 150,000 Immigrants to the Caucasus had already spread throughout the region. What these 150,000 Immigrants would bring to the Caucasus, nobody knew, and everyone awaited the day with anxious anticipation, unsure of how it would change their lives in the future.
