Chapter 292: Volume 4: Turbulent World Chapter 17: Beamon (2)_2

Gazing intently and with admiration at the Fox tribe queen, the Middle-aged man then shifted his gaze to the lean man sitting at the farthest edge, his eyes half-closed as if he was still asleep, "Schnecke, how are things on your end? Did you find any clues? Where exactly did those battering rams get smuggled in from?"

Shami did not expect to uncover the origins of this mysterious force. Daring to make such bold moves, the opponents must have been well-prepared. He only hoped to understand more of the true details of the opposition by relying on his own strength; after all, it always felt unsettling to partner with a force of which so little was known.

As the ruler of the Snake Tribe, the Schnecke family had always been the natural heirs to the Snake Tribe’s throne. A gloomy and indifferent nature may very well be an innate trait of the Snake Tribe, a trait that was even more pronounced among members of the Schnecke family who had delved into the realm of rulers. This also made them somewhat out of sync with the five other tribes among the six tribes of Beastmen. Due to their significantly smaller population compared to the other five tribes, no one from the Snake Tribe had ascended to the throne of the Beastman Alliance for hundreds of years. However, this did not mean the strength of the Snake Tribe was to be underestimated. As the most mysterious of the six Beastman tribes, they had always been an indispensable part of the military might of the Beastman Kingdom.

Born with the ability to move stealthily, a natural instinct for transformation, and an extraordinary sense of perception, they became the backbone of the natural intelligence system within the Beastman Kingdom. Whether it was infiltrating other races’ territories such as Mortals, Dwarves, and Elves to gather intelligence, or counter-espionage against outsiders entering Beastman lands, they had proven themselves worthy of the title "Eyes of the Beastmen" with their excellent results and diligent work ethic.

"I’m sorry, Shami, we’ve done our best. But those people are elusive, and our clues only lead us to their last stop at Tunu Fort, where the Ullr River meets the Dun River, and then the trail goes cold. The battering rams must have been shipped there in various separate parts, then assembled on-site before being transported to our territory. As for where the individual parts came from, Tunu Fort is a hub of transport, especially busy with river traffic. Plus, these guys are very careful—it must have been transported in many separate, small shipments, so it is impossible to trace. However, we have strengthened our surveillance in Tunu Fort. If they have a second batch coming in, I think we might be able to pick up some clues." Dashler Snyke, the man even leaner than Wolf Tribe Leader Carter, always had his eyes half-open and half-closed, which was said to help maintain an optimal state of alertness to the surrounding environment.

Sighing, the Middle-aged man with the whiskered face probably knew that learning the details of the opposition would not be easy. The opponent, daring to deal with them, must have made various preparations beforehand. Although the Snake Tribe’s detection capabilities are high, Mortals have superior counterintelligence methods, diverse and numerous, which Beastmen can barely match. It was unrealistic to expect to understand the opponent’s details in one or two encounters.

"What’s the situation with the Mortals to the south during this time?" the Middle-aged man with large ears asked, his voice booming. As the ruler of the kingdom, he had to consider everything more comprehensively.

"There hasn’t been much change. Their most important stronghold in the North, the capital of Myron Duchy, Mycenae, has been completely destroyed by us. For the time being, Mortals won’t be able to build a city like Mycenae. Moreover, since we have not yet withdrawn our troops, even if they intend to do so, they can’t proceed with construction. I guess they are probably waiting for Winter to come and for us to withdraw our forces before they make their move," said Dashler, the leader of the Snake Tribe, who controlled not only the intelligence system but also was responsible for the assassination organization of the Beastman Kingdom. The Snake Tribe and Fox Clan had always been lurking in the shadows of the Beastman Kingdom, yet their roles were no less significant than the other clans.

"Moda, Mouni, do you two have any thoughts?" The Tiger Clan man finally turned his attention to the two burly men sitting silently to the side.

Next to the man from the Tiger Clan was an even more robust man, whose skin was snow-white, but who seemed to always carry a lazy aura about him. He lay back in a large chair, motionless, seemingly enjoying the atmosphere indoors. He had thick lips and a few stray hairs of an unclean-shaven beard, having kept silent throughout the conversation. He was the Bear Clan’s unwavering ally, its chieftain, Moda Bill.

Having grown up with Shami Tagore from childhood, Moda Bill was always Shami’s best friend. Even though they were from different tribes, this did not affect their friendship. As they aged, they took up their respective positions as leaders of their tribes. When Shami Tagore revealed his intentions to compete for the title of King of the Beastman Alliance, Moda immediately offered his unwavering support. With the full backing of Mouni Aukus from the Cow Tribe, Shami Tagore effortlessly defeated his rival, Carter Wolf of the Wolf Clan, and assumed the role of King over the Beastman Alliance eight years ago.

As for the other man who was as strong as Moda, with bulging eyes and protruding lips, he looked somewhat dull-witted. His massive nostrils seemed to be constantly in search of more air as he flared his nostrils now and then. He had a slight hunchback, but one should not underestimate this seemingly foolish middle-aged man—he was the leader of the Cow Tribe, which had the most citizens within the Beastman Alliance, Mouni Aukus. His destiny, it seemed, was more twisted than the others’.

Initially, the Cow Tribe’s ruler was to be succeeded by his elder brother. However, his brother died after being injured in a battle against mortals. It was decided that the brothers would compete for the position. In the tribe’s traditional tug-of-war contest, Mouni defeated his brothers with his tenacious endurance and ultimately won the kingship. In the subsequent competition for the throne of the Beastman Kingdom, he naturally sided with his good friend and defeated the Wolf Tribe Leader Carter, who had the Fox Clan’s support. In the contest for the Beastman Kingdom’s crown where Shami rose to power, Mouni played a decisive role.

"Shami, neither Mouni nor I have any objections. Since you are the Khan of our Beamon Kingdom, of course you shall make the decisions. However, winter is approaching, and my children are all hoping to return home early. It seems the weather is turning cooler sooner this year, and we should start preparations early. Since we have already reaped much, it is time to quit while we’re ahead. Mortals are unreliable creatures; they must have their schemes and conspiracies for supplying us with weapons. We must consider the interests of Beamon above all else, without overly concerning ourselves with others. Of course, now that Mycenae has been destroyed, we must not allow mortals to rebuild a city that would block our passage southwards. So, although winter is coming, we still need to make arrangements to prevent the mortals from making use of the winter season to rebuild their city,"said the strong white man lazily, smiling. He casually picked up an apple from the plate, squeezed it gently, and the apple promptly turned into apple mash. The juice slid down his fingers into the robust man’s mouth, and he licked his lips contentedly, "Hmm, I still find the apple juice from our Mogan Plateau sweeter. The produce from mortal territories always has some odd taste to it."

Seeing that the opinions of all tribes were largely in agreement, Shami contentedly smacked his lips and turned his attention to the long-haired elder who had remained silent, his head bowed behind him: "High Priest, do you have any objections?"

"Shami, do not trust the mortals too much, but do not doubt everything either. You just need to do as you see fit. The interests of the Beamon Kingdom come above all else. As long as you hold firmly to that, I believe the God Mars will stand with us," murmured the faint voice, which seemed to come from the depths of the underworld. His long hair covered his entire face, and the hoarse voice was weak, yet it incredibly clear to those listening.

"I will heed the High Priest’s advice and be cautious," Shami, along with the other leaders who had already risen, respectfully bowed and watched as the black-robed elder stood up at a leisurely pace and swiftly disappeared from the tent like a wisp of black smoke.
