Chapter 229: Chapter 3: Frenzy_2

This term nearly burst forth from Komer’s mind, no wonder he himself could hardly contain his own emotions. Looking again at the expressions of the Puppet Mage and Rebry, the faint, almost colorless and tasteless smoke was not some sort of magic, but a dark plant concoction. Moreover, the onset of its effects was not swift, but the duration was indeed significant. It could induce an excited state in the nerves of the inhaler, greatly enhancing emotions of dislike and hatred towards the target, commonly referred to as causing an outbreak of the user’s inherent aversion. In many cases, it would manifest through violent martial force. However, why this Mysterious Magician suddenly redirected his loathsome emotions towards Vladimir Koff was something that baffled Komer enormously.

While this dark fog also has some effect on practitioners of Dark-based magic, it is not significant, but for other practitioners, especially those of the Light Series and Holy Series, the impact is particularly notable. Komer had once studied with an eccentric Half-Beastman Pharmacist and spent a period of time sparring in potion-making, mastering quite a few skills in this area.

A series of Light Shields continually orbited around the Mysterious Magician. The Fighting Qi unleashed by the two Dark Knights’ Knight Spears could not completely shatter the Magician’s protective Light Shield. The formidable Light attack magic forced the two Dark Knights to dodge left and right to avoid the powerful lethality. This was a true display of the Mysterious Magician’s strength. His Flight Technique was like the wind—breathtaking—and both Komer and Rebry had to admit that in this respect, no one in their small adventure group could match him.

"Mr. Mihailovich, I would like to take the liberty of asking, who exactly recommended Mage Lome to join us for this adventure, and where does she come from? Was it you yourself?" Seeing how the two Dark Knights were struggling increasingly under the mysterious magician’s growingly frenzied attack, and how the powerful Light Magic she displayed was proof enough of her very close association with the Bright Holy Teaching. Now that everyone’s secrets were nearly laid bare before her, should she break free, Komer feared that all of them, himself included, would face boundless trouble. Hence, he had to prepare in advance.

"Uh, a friend of mine recommended her. Since he was traveling abroad and couldn’t attend, he referred this allegedly highly skillful Mage Lome in Light Magic. You may rest assured on this point, Lord. Our friends are all of the same kind; no outsiders would be able to mingle with us," Mihailovich hastily explained, clearly understanding the implication in Komer’s words.

"Mr. Mihailovich, I’m afraid your words are hardly satisfactory. Look at her use of ’High Clouds’—this is the purest form of Light Magic. I cannot imagine a Dark wizard who could cultivate Light Magic power to such an extent. Except for a natural-born Light Mage, no one could achieve this!" Shaking his head, Komer obviously could not accept the other party’s explanation, especially since the other party also seemed to know little about the Mysterious Magician. Merely a friend’s recommendation letter was not enough for Komer to believe. "Mr. Mihailovich, if you are unable to make Mage Lome cease and submit to our inspection, then I regret we must be rude to her."

Casting a glance at Rebry next to him, Mihailovich also knew that to dispel the group’s doubts, they might only have a chance if Mage Lome stopped her actions. He was at a loss as to why she suddenly launched an attack on the two Dark Knights. Throughout their journey, the Dark Knights hadn’t done anything to offend her, so why would she attack them with such hostility without any apparent reason? And given the current stance, it seemed they would not stop until one party succumbed, no wonder everyone harbored suspicions towards the Mysterious Magician who had come through his channel.

"Mage Lome, please stop! Can we talk this over and resolve our differences peacefully?" In this critical moment, the Puppet Mage could only grit his teeth and make one last effort.

In response to the well-intentioned summons of the Puppet Mage, the Mysterious Magician seemed to sense it and, while turning his body, faced the Puppet Mage. Before the latter could react, two streaks of Holy Thunderfire descended from the heavens, slashing directly at the Puppet Mage’s head. Even though the Puppet Mage had astonishing reflexes, he was completely unprepared. After dodging one thunderfire, another struck his Skeleton Warrior, who took the blow for his master. The immense power of the Holy Light struck the Dark Warrior from the underworld, causing several fine cracks to appear on the top of the skull, and as the silver shield and short sword fell to the ground, the red scarf tied around its head floated down. After a momentary shake, it finally collapsed to the ground and crumbled into pieces.

Fuming with rage, the Puppet Mage was beside himself with anger upon witnessing his meticulously trained luxurious Skeleton Warrior perish without any defense in a single hit. Roaring, "Enough!", he quickly weaved his fingers into a series of complex gestures. A black mist began to drift from his fingertips as he uttered, "Black Snow Break!"

This was a long-lost Dark Magic, a forbidden spell that drew on the essence of the caster himself as its source. Mages would generally refrain from using it unless in dire circumstances, not only because it was difficult to cast, but also because it could harm the caster. After casting such a spell, the caster would typically need to rest for a considerable period before recovering their vitality. The fact that the Puppet Mage resorted to it when it was clearly not necessary to fight to the death showed just how furious he was about his Puppet’s destruction.

Rebury had also successfully cast his spell at the same time, trapping the Mysterious Magician—who was busy dealing with the onslaught of two Dark Knights—in three overlapping, barely visible shadows. Komer, however, chose to use "Heavenly Thunder Punishment," a powerful thunder-based magic, to launch an attack. The mystical Magician’s strength far exceeded everyone’s expectations. The two Dark Knights were so suppressed by her magical attacks that they struggled to defend themselves, and she still had enough power to launch two streaks of Holy Thunderfire, shattering a top-tier Skeleton Warrior. It was unclear why she chose this moment to show her hand, but it seemed there was only one choice—perhaps the artifact hidden behind that secret door had driven her to the brink of madness in her quest to claim it for herself. This seemed the only possible explanation, except that Komer faintly understood another reason.

The forbidden magic cast by the Puppet Mage transformed into black feathers in the air, lightly attaching themselves to the gigantic Light Shield union that had formed around the adversary. Despite the two Dark Knights exerting their maximum Fighting Qi, their Knight Spears only made the Light Shield emit a strange glow upon impact, failing to break through its walls. When the black feathers adhered to the Light Shield, they exploded with violent cracking sounds, causing a brilliant outbreak of white and black light. Yet, with each reaction between the feathers and the shield, the bright color of the Light Shield diminished. When Komer’s "Heavenly Thunder Punishment" transformed into numerous dense, black grid-like nets that enveloped the Light Shield, the powerful impact of the thunder-based magic caused the already weakened Light Shield to show countless cracks.

The Dark Knights, seizing the opportunity, released two streams of dark light from the tips of their lances almost simultaneously. In a flash, the lights violently struck the Light Shield, followed by a crisp cracking sound. The Light Shield union finally met its end, exploding apart, while Rebury’s triple Dark Binding spell aptly and firmly constricted the body of the Mysterious Magician.
