Chapter 1028: Volume 33: Where to Go, Chapter 16: A Beautiful Plan

Vladimir Koff watched Shatima leave before taking a deep, heavy breath. Shatima’s relentless assault had nearly exhausted all his strength, and he had to admit that in certain aspects, she indeed possessed the ability to challenge him. Although he still had one or two trump cards left unplayed, it was uncertain if Shatima also had killer moves up her sleeve. As for who the deer would fall to, it was hard to say for sure.

Seeing the amused and somewhat mocking looks from the fellows around him, Vladimir Koff felt a bit embarrassed. He had thought that he could easily teach this rough woman a lesson, but unexpectedly, he had been caught off guard and almost bested, providing a spectacle for the members of the Black Flame Knights.

"Jack, what, do you guys find it funny?"

"Mr. Vladimir Koff, it seems that Miss Shatima fully meets the standards to be a member of our Black Flame Knights. Why not invite her to join us?" Before Jack could respond, Peter interjected, "That woman has a strong tendency towards violence; I think she really fits with our Black Flame Knights. If only we had sent her to the Mist Flower Hills, she could have given those damned Dark Elves and Assyrian Warriors a taste of being trampled by a woman."

"Hmph, Miss Shatima has a quite extraordinary temperament. If she went to the Mist Flower Hills, chances are the flames of war might already have spread across the entire Red Tree Forest and Iris Basin." Vladimir Koff laughed at himself, "By then, Lord would really hold it against us. We could be in trouble and may just have to stay there until the situation improves."

"Vladimir Koff, we didn’t return this time for any particular reason. Does Lord Komer plan to rest and recuperate for a while now? Aren’t there other missions? Such as heading north to Jazair to test the waters?"

Jack responded at this moment. The battle in the Mist Flower Hills had given the Fallen Knights a full taste of the thrill of conquest. Matching wits with the Dark Elf Swordsmen and combatting the knight experts from Assyria was full of ups and downs, but the exhilaration of challenging oneself was something they hadn’t felt in a long time. Jack had become more and more accustomed to the lifestyle of the Black Flame Knights, no longer caring about the reasons behind the battles. As long as the war brought him pleasure, that was enough.

"Yeah, I heard there are quite a few experts among those beastmen, especially within their Tiger Clan and Wolf Clan, where their selected warriors are not inferior to the knights in our human Knights regiments," Morssen chimed in.

"That’s not all; those beastmen also have their Spell Priests. It is said that their shamanic arcane might not be as profound and extensive as the magic of us mortals, but its bizarre and peculiar extent might even surpass it. They can cast spells to bless their Orc Warriors, and they can also launch direct attacks with their magic." Jack’s eyes gleamed, "Facing those guys in battle, now that’s interesting."

"Mr. Vladimir Koff, why don’t you move things along with Lord and let our Black Flame Knights head north for an adventure? Considering the future tension between Lord Komer and the beastmen is inevitable, if the beastmen occupy Nicosia’s capital, even if Lord Komer has other ideas, I’m afraid it would be embarrassing to bring them up. Everything will have to wait until after Jazair is taken. Wouldn’t it be reasonable for us to stir things up a bit first?"

Peter was clearly excited, urging Vladimir Koff to seek permission for battle.

"Hmm, we do need to worry about disrupting Lord Komer’s plans, but if we go to the North as the Black Flame Knights alone, it should be much easier to handle." Morssen also agreed with the idea.

"Hmph, do you take the beastmen for fools? The intelligence system of the Snake Tribe is said to be no less capable than that half-beastman hybrid. Otherwise, how could Jazair and Myron Duchy have fallen into their hands? The Black Flame Knights might not have shown up formally yet, but trying to slip past the beastmen undetected is impossible. Once we head north, that would mean the start of the war. Rather than that, it would be better to gather the elite forces of the other Three Great Knights and catch the beastmen off guard. If we’re going to fight, we should make it count. If we’re going out, we should thoroughly confuse the beastmen, leaving them unable to recover for a time," Vladimir Koff said in a low voice, "otherwise, it’s better not to make a move at all."

"Exactly, if we’re going to strike, we should strike hard. If we can’t incapacitate the enemy with a preemptive attack, it means our strategic intent has failed. We’re fighting a war, not just a test of martial arts."

Komer emerged silently from the shadows. Invisibility magic had covered his presence perfectly. He had been paying attention ever since Shatima’s duel with Vladimir Koff and only stepped out after Vladimir Koff’s words.

"Does that mean, Sir, that the Black Flame Knights and other knight regiments can join forces and head north first to issue a challenge?" Vladimir Koff seemed completely unaware of Komer’s eavesdropping and was solely focused on the topic mentioned by Komer.

"I have that idea, but it’s still just a rough outline. We need to consider how to proceed carefully. The beastmen are not Silesia or Poznan; their armed forces are incredibly formidable. And once we provoke them this time, it’s likely to be a fight to the death. I don’t know if we’re truly ready to fight this war."

Komer casually cast a blessing spell on Vladimir Koff to help him recover his energy quickly and then pondered a bit further. He had concerns, just as Uma had said; in Nicosia, his foundations were not yet solid. The Knight regiments themselves were not a problem, but the class they represented had always shown a skeptical attitude regarding his succession to the Romanov Dynasty’s rule over Nicosia. On one hand, he needed to stabilize them, and on the other, he needed to prove himself with a victory in an external war, especially one against the beastmen, showing he could do better than the Romanov Dynasty.

Before that, he needed a meticulous and rigorous plan, one that targeted the beastmen and also prevented the Church of Light from intervening. (To be continued...
