Chapter 1025: Volume 33 Where to Go Chapter 13 Anxious in Times of Peace
The charming and innocent face suddenly bloomed with a magnificent crimson even Komer couldn’t help but widen his eyes. Up to this point, Uma had not been able to fully conquer this body, but one thing was for certain: the Saintess of St. Vasily Church could only maintain her pure heart in the obscure darkness for her entire life. To overturn control over this body was almost an impossible task unless Uma could be eradicated completely from its origin.
However, Komer could not imagine anyone in this world who could accomplish this, neither Frenster nor Vazinsky stood a chance, perhaps Julius II might be able to, but would he himself give him that opportunity?
The rose-like crimson faded, and Uma’s face returned to an icy jade color. Komer watched with interest as this lost dark elder attempted to refine her opponent, but it was evident that she had not succeeded. The Bright Holy Teaching was extremely stringent in selecting its Saintesses, especially in fortifying their resolve, and Saintess Elenya’s performance far exceeded Komer and Uma’s expectations.
"Uma, still no way?" Komer crossed his arms, closely observing the other’s smooth face. The blush had faded, and the expression unchanged, showing Uma’s efforts had once again been in vain.
"Hmm, these damned Church of Light, it’s unimaginable how they train the conviction of these people to be so resilient. Every time I’m so close only to fail at the last moment, which is utterly disheartening," Uma said with disappointment, as she saw her dark power slowly eroding everything in the opponent’s heart, yet every time failing at the last moment, causing her immense frustration.
"Did you think that the Church of Light could thrive for hundreds of years without any true expertise? If everyone could easily resolve it, then the Church of Light would have likely met its end long ago," Komer shook his head slightly, "Don’t rush, we have all the time in the world, and time can erode everything."
"But I’m not satisfied. Always being held back like this prevents me from fully immersing myself in cultivation. Such a perfect body for my use, yet I cannot fully control it—this is nothing but torture," Uma said through clenched teeth: "Lacking this, I can’t cultivate or use many of the most essential skills."
"Hmm, do you need my help in this matter? I am quite confident in my experience in this area," Komer reminded kindly: "Sometimes, relying solely on oneself and forcing the issue is not the best approach."
"No, no, I must solve this problem myself. Otherwise, with this flaw, I will never reach the pinnacle," Uma insisted. A blow to the soul was undoubtedly the greatest harm to a mage. Rather than achieving her goal with someone else’s help, Uma was willing to pay a higher price to try it herself. This was, after all, a necessary process in magical cultivation—if it were too easy, it might only mean that greater dangers lay ahead.
"That’s fine then, now you have the time to achieve everything you want," Komer stretched his body, "How about you go down to Damarlinsk Castle for now? The rich dark atmosphere there might help you to wield your mental magic more effectively."
Uma hesitated a bit. The environment of Damarlinsk Castle was indeed the best, but three hundred years of solitude also made her somewhat fearful of returning there, even though she could come and go freely, Uma was still subconsciously resistant to the suggestion.
"Komer, do you think your current situation is really that secure?"
"What’s wrong, Uma? You think there’s something amiss?" Komer immediately asked back, very alert.
"I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it just feels too calm for our Dark Lineage, it seems a bit abnormal. Just like how Emperor Kennifer was betrayed at the height of his power, falling from grace never to recover. And it seems you too have reached a glorious apex; even those Church of Light folks have to succumb to your might. Do you think the people of the Church of Light will submit willingly?"
Uma’s words sent a chill through Komer. Was this harbinger of doom prophesying something?
Frenster and Vazinsky had already compromised with him, and the Salvation Society had to submit under his dominance. The Dark Lineage also relied on his power to maintain balance. All of this had made him somewhat complacent, the apex of secular power muddling his mind. Everyone was cheering for his achievements, expecting him to reclaim Jazair and create new glories without realizing the impending crisis he faced.
But what exactly was the crisis he faced?
Komer pondered and thought hard.
In temporal matters, even if the Northern Alliance and the beastmen joined forces, they could hardly bother him much. The Three Great Knights plus the Barbarians and Half-Beastmen military forces were enough for him to comfortably face any foe. But what if the Three Great Knights became disorderly?
Komer’s heart felt slightly disturbed. Undoubtedly, his foundation within the Three Great Knights was not solid, his control over the knights paled in comparison to that over the Barbarians and Half-Beastmen. It could even be considered fragile.
If a situation arose where the Three Great Knights collectively turned their backs on him, or even if they simply stayed neutral, he would likely end up as Uma had said—collapsing and dissipating into nothing.
But could the Northern Alliance and the beastmen really achieve this? The answer was definitely no, but just because they couldn’t didn’t mean no one could. Komer silently weighed his options: what about the Church of Light?
Would Frenster and Vazinsky keep compromising with him? The answer was negative. Clearly, this was just a temporary compromise; all sides needed time to catch their breath and adapt. So, it seemed that for the moment, he was safe. However, that was only under normal circumstances—if any other forces joined in, the situation could change, and the change would likely be to his disadvantage.
At that moment, Komer thought of many things, cold sweat seeping down his spine.
To prepare for danger in times of safety is never excessive. (To be continued. For further updates, please log on to www.qidian.com. More Chapters are available, support the author, support authorized reading!)
