Chapter 1015: Volume 33 Where to Go Chapter 3 Incredible Cooperation (1)

The meeting with Frenster came so swiftly that even Komer thought the other party seemed to be waiting for his invitation.

Komer didn’t have the nerve to invite both Frenster and Vazinsky to Plovdiv at once. If the two pillars of the Church of Light really came together, Komer was genuinely worried they might wipe him out in an instant. Even with Rebry and Mihailovich as his escorts, he didn’t feel entirely safe; erring on the side of caution was only beneficial.

This was Komer’s first time facing the man reputed to be the foremost authority in the Church of Light, second only to the Pope. Obviously, in that period, the substantial weakening of Vazinsky’s faction had affected his standing within the Church. Frenster had begun to subtly outstrip Vazinsky, but this did not mean that Vazinsky’s faction had truly fallen.

Still clad in white as pure as snow, still with his hair grey as a heron’s plume, aside from the faint flicker of divine light in his eyes, Komer found this man—who had remained unyielding in the decades-long power struggles within the Church of Light—to be more like a hermit uninvolved with worldly affairs.

"Lord Bishop Frenster?" Komer tentatively asked.

"Heh, Lord Komer, have you not done your research before inviting me? Or are you questioning whether I am who I say I am?" There was a mild smile on Frenster’s face that gave no hint of hostility.

"Oh, I apologize, I was somewhat discourteous. I’m just surprised because the appearance of Bishop Frenster is a bit different from what I imagined," Komer frankly admitted his impoliteness.

"Oh? And what did you imagine me to be like?" Frenster asked with interest.

"Well, in my mind, Frenster should be a venerable figure with a stern demeanor and a serious countenance."

Frenster let out an amused chuckle. This fellow really had a sense of humor, picturing him based on imagination. But that didn’t mean the other party lacked cunning; perhaps this was precisely where his cleverness lay.

"Lord Komer, I’m equally intrigued by you. I really want to know about your background and experiences, but everything I’ve come to know about you is rather vague. For someone of your caliber to emerge from the Reese Family is enough to leave the noble families of Homer in the dust. To put it accurately, your father is but a mediocrity. He might have some expertise in finance, but that doesn’t change the essence. Perhaps the only thing he could take pride in is having a son like you, and even more so, being born out of wedlock," Frenster said.

For the first time, Komer felt the pressing aura and the sharpness of Frenster’s words, the man’s demeanor ever-shifting, making it hard for Komer to find his psychological weak point.

"I share the sentiment. I don’t wish to belittle my own father, and I also know that no matter what I do, I cannot sever the connection with the Reese Family. But I have to admit, my father and the Reese Family are better suited to a rural territory; they’re not capable of navigating through an era of turmoil and change."

Frenster slightly raised an eyebrow unnoticed, this fellow’s ability to grasp the implication was impressively quick, almost in sync with his own expression.

"Very good, Lord Komer. When you speak of an era of turmoil and change, are you referring to the current state of Nicosia?"

"Not entirely," Komer replied.

"Oh? I would like to hear the details."

"Bishop Frenster, do you think that the Northern Alliance, Bohemia, and Basarabia can remain unscathed? What about the Southern Mediterranean and the middle and upper reaches of the Catania River region?" Komer asked.

Komer and Frenster’s gazes clashed in the air.

"Lord Komer, forgive my dullness, but I have yet to comprehend the meaning of your words," Frenster admitted.

"Then let us discuss this from a different angle," Komer replied with a smile. "Do you think I could rule the entire Blue Continent?"

"Absolutely not," Frenster answered patiently and politely. He did not want to entertain such an absurd and childish question; he did not believe his counterpart could be so arrogant.

"Why not?" Komer pursued.

"The diversity of races, cultures, histories, and customs determines that this world will never belong to just one person," Frenster explained.

"Good. Then can the Church of Light cover the entire Blue Continent?" Komer pressed on.

Frenster hesitated before responding cautiously, "Theoretically, it could be achieved, but the complexity and variability of actual conditions mean that this remains theoretical. However, the Church of Light can reach any place where people need the Light."

"Heh, Bishop Frenster, I don’t want to argue about this. What you’ve said is just a wish from the Church of Light at its peak three hundred years ago. In reality, we both know that’s impossible and impractical, especially now. How do you view the prospects of the Church of Light? Please, note that although the Salvation Society originated from the Church of Light, it has developed its own independent thoughts and doctrines, and no one can erase it," said Komer.

"Lord Komer, what exactly are you trying to convey?" Frenster inquired.

"Bishop Frenster, I want to remind you that this era of turmoil and change has already arrived. The idea of ruling or controlling the entire world with a single intent is ludicrous for both of us. But, does that mean we must stand idly by in the face of all these changes? No, I believe we can do something."

"Interesting, please continue," Frenster said, the contemplative look on his face deepening.

"The Church of Light has reached a point where it must be reformed in order to rise again. The rise of the Salvation Society fully demonstrates this. If the Church of Light cannot learn from this, I believe there will be more groups like the Salvation Society splintering off from it. I trust Bishop Frenster can see this," Komer elaborated.

"Hmm, Lord Komer seems to be considerate of our Church of Light. Do you feel pressured by the increasing influence of the Salvation Society in Nicosia?" Frenster smiled thinly.

"Somewhat, not only the Salvation Society but also the Dark Holy Church. The drastic decline of the Church of Light has given these powers their opportunity, and too rapid a retreat can bring many negative effects. I do not wish to see that happen," Komer did not shy away from admitting.

"Quite astonishing. If I recall correctly, Lord Komer is born of the Dark Lineage, aren’t you?" Frenster arched an eyebrow.

"First and foremost, I am the Lord of Nicosia. Only then am I a member of the Dark Lineage. The order of these roles indicates the priority, and this cannot be reversed," Komer asserted emphatically.
