The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 83. Boredom
Chapter 83: 83. Boredom
"Feeling better?" She could hear the smirk in his voice.
She pulled back and smacked his shoulder. "What does that even mean?" She cried and glared at him.
"Well, you seemed cranky earlier."
Mauve gasped, "I wasn’t cranky," she exclaimed. She looked mortified
"I didn’t say you were, I said you seemed." He was looking closely at her, his eyes moving around and he studied her face.
"Same difference," she pouted and folded her arms. She raised her head slightly, scoffing into his face.
"Can you stand?" He asked.
She nodded, "I think so."
"Don’t fall," he said and carefully dropped her on the ground.
Mauve staggered a little and had to use him as support but she immediately got her balance. He carefully let her go as she leaned against the door.
Jael pulled up his pants and tied them around his waist. He returned his gaze to her but Mauve frowned as she realized he wasn’t looking at her face. She looked down and her chest lay bare, all her goodies were on display.
Mauve immediately tried to cover up as she reddened to her roots. She wrapped her arms across her chest. "Would you stop ripping my clothes?" She asked, her voice a high pitch, it was a little hard to meet her gaze.
He stretched out his hand and moved the hair out of her face. "No promises," he whispered.
She glowered at him and he took his hand away. He took off his shirt and put it over her head. She slipped her hands into the sleeves as he smirked into her face, looking very proud.
"This doesn’t solve the problem," she blurted in his face. "My good dress is ruined."
"I will get you another one," he answered without hesitation.
Mauve was speechless and her cheeks reddened as she realized what this entailed.
"I guess that solves the problem," he said.
He grabbed the ropes of the shirt and tied it so it covered her properly. The shirt was very loose on her and that wasn’t the only problem, it was also very long. It made a decent dress.
"No, it doesn’t." However, all the disapproval was gone from her voice.
All the dresses she brought were hand-me-down from the Queen, they had just been adjusted to fit her. The only dress that had been made especially for her was the wedding dress and that was because the Queen didn’t want her to wear the royal family’s official wedding dress.
"If you stop ripping my dresses, there wouldn’t be a problem in the first place," she added.
She fiddled with the wrists of the clothes as she tried to raise them to her own wrists. Her hands were fully covered like a child wearing their parents’ clothes. The shirt was soft though and it felt very comfortable.
"That’s not my fault," he said and caught one of her hands. "Your dress tends to get in the way."
He tried to help her but when he saw that folding it made a difference as her wrists were too skinny, he immediately let go of her hand.
"Yes, I am not exactly going to strut around naked because you have no patience."
He smirked, "You should go."
"Oh," Mauve said and brought her covered hand to her chest, she had not expected that.
"I have work to do," he replied. "You are a distraction I can’t afford."
"I see um I will let you get back to work then." She bent her head low and gripped the hem of what was left of her dress a little too hard.
He opened the door and Mauve walked out of it, she had barely taken a step forward when the door shut, loudly. It was as if he couldn’t wait for her to leave.
She felt her eyes water, she couldn’t comprehend what just happened. Was that a good thing or not? He did look like he was busy and she was sure he hadn’t gotten much sleep.
She took a step forward, she couldn’t exactly hang around here, he could tell she was still out here, and since he already told her to leave, she didn’t want to piss him off.
She wondered if she should have asked if he was going to come to her room for the day. It would be nice if he did, she was used to him sharing her bed.
Mauve had her head bent and was completely lost in thought, it wasn’t until a pair of feet appeared in her vision that she realized that she was about to bump into someone.
She stopped in her tracks, "Lady Jevera," she cried and did a little curtsey. "I am so sorry, I didn’t see you there."
Lady Jevera also stopped walking and Mauve could feel Lady Jevera’s gaze on her back. She squirmed under the tension and it took everything to raise her head.
The lady was dressed for bed. She had on a silk night dress and her usual bouncy red hair was tied. Her rope was untied and her bosom was on partial display.
Mauve tried not to compare sizes in her head but failed woefully. The differences could be spotted from a mile away. She hoped Jael preferred apples to cantaloupes.
Mauve looked up to see Lady Jevera looking condescendingly at her. Her heart skipped a beat but she held her stance.
"Jael gets bored quickly," her eyes flicked up and down. "I wonder how long you’ll last, by the looks of it, not long."
Mauve blinked as she tried to process Lady Jevera’s words but before she could gather her thoughts and come up with anything coherent, she heard the door of his study open and close.
Mauve’s leg shook but she did not stagger and somehow made it to her room without falling on her face. She carefully closed the door behind her and slid to the ground.
She was still there some minutes later when a loud knock roused her from her thoughts. She quickly rose to her feet and threw the door open.
"Mauve," Mill cried, a little shocked.
Mauve immediately took a step back, she had not realized how sudden her actions were until she saw Mill’s face. Who was now looking at her with a puzzled expression and she remembered she was putting on Jael’s dress.
"My apologies, if I am interruption anything but I am about to retire for the day and I was wondering if you would like to have your bath now?" Mill asked, her eyes roaming all over Mauve, she looked a little concerned.
Mauve sighed, she could imagine how crazy she looked, her hair was all over the place, her dress was ruined and she was wearing a shirt, she could definitely see the picture she was painting.
The only thing she was glad about was she had not been crying. If she had, Mill would have been greeted with nothing less than puffy eyes and a snort-covered nose.
"Mauve?" Mill gently called. "Is everything alright?"
Her concern tore at Mauve’s heart and she really wished she could share but there was no way she could tell Mill what was bothering her when Jael was her boss, king, ruler, sire, the list was endless.
"Thank you for your concern Mill but I am good. Just a little tired and yes, please. I would like to have my bath now." She forced a smile and she hoped it was believable.
However, Mill didn’t pester and Mauve was grateful for that. She feared that if she was asked what was wrong one more time she would burst into tears and tell Mill all her problems. She missed Vae and she hoped the maid was doing alright.
"Okay, I will take care of the dishes and return with your bath water." Mill said and walked into the room.
Mauve’s eyes widened as she realized she had not eaten. However, she knew she wouldn’t be able to even if she tried. She held her breath as Mill approached the table, she could already imagine the vampire’s reaction.
Mill lifted the tray and immediately dropped it, she then opened the dish. "Mauve," she cried. "You didn’t eat a bite."
"I wasn’t hungry," she mumbled and looked at her feet.
"Would you like me to bring you something else to eat? Soup? Fruits? Surely, you can’t sleep on an empty stomach." Mill offered, her voice laced with worry.
Mauve shook her head, "I am fine, Mill. I will eat as soon as I wake up," Mauve plastered the same smile across her face.
Mill didn’t look as if she believed a word Mauve said but she didn’t argue, just picked up the tray and walked toward the room.
"I will return with your bath water," she said as she walked out the door.
"Thank you, Mill, and don’t bother knocking."
Mill nodded and Mauve closed the door. She dragged herself away from the door to the bed as she fought the urge to sit on the ground again and she lay sideways on the bed.
