Chapter 782. Mauve’s Input

Chapter 782: 782. Mauve’s Input

Mauve slowly woke up to Jael getting out of bed. "Jael," she softly called as she moved to a sitting position.

"Get some more sleep," Jael said. "It’s still early."

"No," she shook her head, yawning a little. "I have slept enough, and I also want to speak to the guests before the first meal. Hopefully, they can join us this time. I am sure they are awake. The sun should still be up."

"It will be sunset soon," Jael replied. "You don’t have to exert yourself. You can assign Mill to ask the servants to do that." Jael’s face looked a little stern as he spoke, but Mauve knew he was just worried.

If she listened to him, she would lay in bed practically all day, neither moving nor lifting a finger. Absolutely not. At least he didn’t give extreme orders, and if she insisted hard enough, he listened to her.

"They are not going to be easily convinced without my input. I have to make sure things go smoothly. Don’t worry, I can handle it, and promise I won’t exert myself. Neither you nor Mill will even let me, for that matter."

Jael didn’t look like he believed her words as he walked away from the bed and pulled the string to call for servants.

"Thank you," she mumbled and got out of bed. "I will wait for them in my room."

Jael wanted to stop her, but he simply nodded, and she picked up the little candlelight by the bedside table and slipped out the connecting door.

Mauve had been worried that she was not doing her duties as the mate of the Primus, but just because she wasn’t speaking to the servants herself didn’t mean she wasn’t directly involved.

Well, she wasn’t as involved as she wanted, but Mill insisted she let her handle the minor details, and if there was any major event that needed her input, she would be sure to bring it up with Mauve. But for now, Mauve was to concentrate on the baby. Jael had fully supported this, and Mauve had no other option but to listen. Even Danag, who had tried to press her on the matter before everything unfolded, had taken a step back.

Mauve wasn’t surprised by this. Everyone had their hands full dealing with Palers, and such trivial things were almost dismissed. Besides, her major focus was making sure vampires got the help of humans, and she figured Danag was giving her space to do that.

Therefore, regardless of what Jael would prefer, there was no way she could remain in bed. She would have to meet up with them and convince Madeline and Ferguson to join them for the first meal. She would probably have to accompany them to the hall too.

She didn’t know how Jael would react to this, so she didn’t mention it. She would tell Mill to inform Jael that she would meet him at the dining hall. The good news was, he couldn’t get too angry even if he was.

Her room was almost dark, but it didn’t make much difference as her sight in the dark was much better. She had only taken the light more for the company than a need for it. Her sight couldn’t be compared to vampires; she knew that much, but it was certainly better than the average human’s.

Mauve had expected to have more of a reaction to the changes in her body, but she was surprisingly calm about it. Maybe because the people she told didn’t act like it was something freakish. She smiled and looked towards the curtains. She was tempted to open the windows but not yet. The sun was still up.

"My lady," Mill said as soon as she was let in. "Is everything okay? The Primus told me you were in your room." She rushed towards the bed where Mauve sat and stared hard at her face.

"Oh, I am fine. Don’t be so worried." Mauve was a little taken aback as she stared at Mill’s concerned face.

"Well, you woke earlier than normal. I wondered if the baby bothered you."

"No," Mauve said. "Not at all. I just have a lot to do today, and I want to do it before the first meal."

"Oh, the guests?" Mill asked as some of the tension on her face eased.

"Yes," she whispered.

"You don’t have to worry. I am handling it."

"I know, but I am the only human here. I am sure there are a lot of things they will prefer to hear from me, and it’s comforting to have someone similar to you who knows their way around." Mauve smiled.

She didn’t have that when she got here, but she had Vae. They were pretty much in the same terrible situation, but it was relieving for Mauve. She doubted she would have gotten used to the vampires’ region as easily as she did if she had come alone.

She wanted to extend that help to the guests, but thankfully, she was someone who knew her way around, and she knew they were bound to trust her regardless of whether they wanted to or not. She wanted to take advantage of that.

Mill nodded. She knew Mauve was right, so she couldn’t argue. However, she was worried about the pregnancy, and with each day drawing closer to the time, she wanted to reduce Mauve’s workload as much as possible.

"You’re right, they will feel much better if it came from you," Mill reluctantly said.

"Thank you," Mauve said and got to her feet. "And if you aren’t too busy, I’d like you to accompany me. I want to introduce you properly to them so they know they can trust you."

Mill nodded. Nothing would have been able to stop her. She had already decided to go with Mauve. She didn’t have any ill feelings towards the humans. Nothing about them made her uneasy. She was sure that as long as nothing went wrong, things would go smoothly.

"Let’s get you ready for the day." Mill led Mauve to the bathtub that a servant had brought into the room not long after Mill arrived.
