Chapter 687. An Intrusion
Chapter 687: 687. An Intrusion
Mauve tried not to show her thoughts on her face as she sat with Louis in the library. Danag had found Louis and pulled him into the library on her behalf, as Jael still had his hands tied up, which meant he was the only person left to keep her company—and he didn’t seem very pleased about the idea.
"You don’t expect me to teach you magic every day, my lady?" Louis scolded as Mauve stared at him eagerly.
The sarcasm in his tone was as clear as day, and Mauve scrunched up her nose. Only Louis knew how to make the title sound so annoying. "There is nothing wrong with that. Besides, very soon I will barely have any time for this. If I don’t learn all that I can now, when will I?"
She also needed it as some form of distraction. She thought of telling Louis about the conversation between Danag and herself, but she couldn’t help but think this was, in some way, looking to someone to solve her problems, and this wasn’t a path she could go down any longer. Definitely not as the lady of the castle.
Danag did say he would give her more information about vampires and her newfound duties. She also knew it would be better to ask Mill but the vampire would likely tell her not to worry about a thing.
Danag has definitely told her more than anyone else. No one thought she needed to change anything about herself, and she wondered if this was their way of being polite, or if they didn’t see her past what she currently was—or perhaps it was still too early.
"No, I told you about getting proper rest. I can’t just—"
"I have been getting enough rest. I slept long enough. Louis, come on," she begged.
Louis sighed. He looked exhausted, but Mauve didn’t notice. However, despite his reservations about teaching her, he stood up and walked to the shelf to pick out a spellbook. He was, without a doubt, curious about what sort of spells she would be able to learn and how fast. He wanted to move to healing spells, but to do that, he needed someone to heal.
For now, he would try to take it as slow as he possibly could—teaching her and reteaching her spells she already knew until she could say them without thinking. Hopefully, when things were less chaotic, he would be able to bring up more complex spells and see how she would handle them.
He placed the heavy book on the table, and Mauve’s eyes gleamed. He couldn’t fault her excitement; it was one of the reasons why it was especially hard to tell her no. Who knew when he would be able to get such an eager student again?
"Shall we pick up from where we stopped yesterday?" he asked softly.
"Yes, please," Mauve replied and pulled the spellbook toward herself. She flipped the pages open, found where they had stopped in no time, and eagerly began to recite them.
Louis had to cut her short and ask her to prepare properly because she started saying the spells randomly. She stopped, nodding as she acknowledged his words, and then redid it.
Mauve was halfway through another round of spells when the library doors were thrown open. Mauve had never shut a book faster in her life. Louis looked equally worried, but the look in his eyes quickly changed to anger at the sight of who walked into the library. Mauve frowned, knowing Louis wouldn’t react to Jael in that manner.
"Mauve!" a familiar voice rang out, and before she could turn around to see, she felt a gust of wind and a force hit her back. A hand wrapped around her neck from the top of her seat, and blonde hair fell as a head leaned closer to hers.
"Lady Sabrina!" she yelled in shock. She raised her eyes to meet the vampire looking down at her.
"Lady?" Sabrina giggled. "We both know who the lady is now." She pulled away from Mauve, and with a bright smile, she grabbed her dress and bent her knees. "My lady." Sabrina lifted her head to look at Mauve, the bright smile still on her face.
"Sabrina," Louis called, cutting her display short. "Were you not informed the lady was busy?" His expression was gruff as he spoke.
"I apologize," a servant yelled from the library doorway, they looked too scared to venture closer. "I tried to stop her..." Their voice was shaky as they spoke. Mauve was even more shocked by their presence than by the fact that they had tried to prevent Sabrina from getting in here.
"Louis, what are you saying?" she asked as she got out of her seat. "It’s Lady Sabrina."
"It’s Sabrina, my lady." Sabrina turned to Louis. "Lord Louis, do pardon the interruption, but I had to see Mauve," she paused and cleared her throat, "her ladyship immediately."
"Did you just get here?" Mauve asked.
"Yes, I haven’t even unpacked," she announced in glee. "I stepped into the castle and immediately asked a servant where you were. I can’t believe you’re the Primus’s mate. I am sure Jevera is tossing and turning on her bed." The malicious glint in her eyes was pretty obvious. "That aside, congratulations."
"Thank you," Mauve replied. She didn’t know what else to say.
"When did it happen? I need to know all the details. Do you mind if I borrow her?" Sabrina asked, but she didn’t wait for Louis to reply before she pulled Mauve toward the door.
Mauve didn’t even get to react before she was dragged away by an excited Sabrina.
"Your bedroom or the rooftop," Sabrina was saying as she led Mauve, "which do you think would be more private?"
"My bedroom," Mauve said, but only because she didn’t want to go to the rooftop anymore. She turned to give Louis an apologetic look as she was being pulled away, but Louis wasn’t looking at her. Rather, he was returning the book to the shelf.
"Alright," Sabrina replied. "You have to tell me everything exactly as it happened, leaving no detail out."
