The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 666. Mine Alone

Chapter 666: 666. Mine Alone

"Your mate?" she asked. "Like the one the Lords want you to get?"

Jael gave her an impressed look and took a step back. "Yeah," he said.

Mauve’s mouth fell open, and for a few seconds, she didn’t know how to react. "Should you be giving that to me? Wait," she said, placing her hand on her chest as she walked closer. "What does this mean?"

Jael smiled and covered her small palm with his. "Exactly what you think it does."

"You’re picking me?" she asked, blinking. She lowered her head and looked down at her feet. It was still hard to believe, and her heart felt as though it would burst out of her chest.

She understood what Jael was saying; it made sense to her, but she was having a hard time believing it was true. Maybe he was messing with her or she was still dreaming, and she would wake up soon enough and realize this never happened.

"I already did; I just made it more official," Jael explained as Mauve tried to gather herself.

"W-what about your—"

"Is that what you should be saying?" He frowned. "You don’t sound very happy about this."

"Not happy," she said, looking up at him. "I am so happy I could cry." Her lips quivered as she spoke, and Jael pulled her into his embrace.

"Don’t cry," he said.

"They wouldn’t be tears of sorrow," she said, sniffing against him. "They would be tears of joy."

"Does that mean you approve?" he asked.

"I thought I already made that clear," she laughed. "But wait," she pulled back, grabbing him by the arms and looking up at him, "How can they tell? I don’t think the mark was that visible."

"It’s not," he said with a smile. "They can tell as soon as they are close enough."

"Oh, I see." That definitely explained everyone’s reaction and the look Erick shot her. She could imagine many of the Lords weren’t pleased, but Jael didn’t want her to think about that, and she wouldn’t. The funny part was there was no space in her mind to think about the Lords and what they would think about this. All she could think about was now being Jael’s proper bride to the vampires.

Right now, she was going to celebrate her victory and worry about the inconsequential parts later. However, something nagged at her, and she ignored it as hard as she could. She knew it wouldn’t be easy for both of them, but as long as Jael was right next to her, nothing else mattered.

"You’re taking this better than I expected," he said with a laugh. It was a sound she would never tire of hearing.

"What’s there not to take?" she asked, fighting the urge to dance around.

"Don’t you find the mark weird?" Jael asked, peering at her face.

"How would I?" she asked with a gasp, lightly touching her neck. "I still don’t get how it works, but it doesn’t really matter. It shows that I am yours, doesn’t it?"

Jael’s nose flared. "It does. You’re mine alone, as I am yours."

Mauve blinked away the tears from her eyes. She closed the gap between them again, hugging Jael tightly. He hugged her back, squeezing just as hard but being careful not to crush her.

"I couldn’t ask for anything more. I really couldn’t," she said, pressing her face into his chest.

"I love you, Mauve. I don’t want to be with anyone else but you."

"Me too," Mauve replied. "I am so happy to be alive."

Her voice sounded muffled as she was pressed against his chest but it was still clear enough for him to hear. He smiled and held her closer to himself, bending his head a little.

She pulled away from him again. "Is that why Mill keeps calling me ’My lady’?" Mauve asked.

Jael nodded. "Yeah, and you’ll have to get used to it. As the Primus’s mate, she can no longer call you by your name."

Mauve pouted. "Surely, an exception can be made. I am still Mauve. It feels very weird when she calls me that."

"But you’re my mate and lady now." Jael kissed the top of her head. "You won’t be treated any less."

Mauve pouted but didn’t say anything further. "Things are going to change around here, right?" she said as she rested her forehead against his chest.

"Yes, they will, but only in a good way," he said.

Mauve nodded, but she didn’t fully believe this. She touched the mark on her neck. Was she allowed to have this?

"Does it hurt?" he asked.

She shook her head. "Wait, when did you give it to me?" she asked.

"Do you really want me to tell you?" he asked with a smirk.

Mauve reddened and shook her head. She didn’t want to think about it. She still found that episode very hard to believe. "Do you know what caused that?" she asked, looking away from his face. She knew if she stared at him, her mind would clearly rewind the incident.

Jael shook his head. "I don’t know," he said and ruffled her hair. "But don’t worry about it. I don’t think it will happen again."

"You sound so sure," she mumbled.

"I am," he said.

"Okay," she replied and smiled at him.

Mauve was doing her best not to think about the cons of this, but she recalled the vampires’ reactions when they realized. None of them had looked happy. Not Danag, not Erick, and certainly not the other Lords. The only person who didn’t seem to care was Damon; after his initial surprise, his expression showed nothing else.

Louis didn’t have any reaction, and she wondered what his opinion on this would be. She would have to ask him. She wanted to prepare herself. Jael would try to shield her from the words, while Louis would tell her as it is. It was annoying, but she knew he wasn’t blunt out of malice.

Jael led her to bed and stayed with her until someone came to call for him. Mauve remained in bed as her mind wandered. She wanted to go talk to Louis now but figured she could do that later.

Right now, she wanted to be as joyful as possible without the worries of what this brought. It was funny how she knew it wouldn’t sit well with the rest of the vampires, but if given a choice, she would still pick this.

Jael had chosen her regardless of what the rest of the vampires wanted. She was his mate. She let out a happy sound and rolled on the bed. There was really no chance of any other female vampire coming out of nowhere.

Mauve stopped and sat up. Did she really deserve all this? Did she ever think she would get this lucky? Jael was in love with her and made sure to show it. Going against the Lords was a big deal. She took a deep breath.

She couldn’t imagine what Lord Levaton’s reaction would be. She couldn’t think of any Lord who might take this new development in stride. She worried for Jael. Was this really okay? She didn’t want to put him in a terrible situation.

Mauve ended up taking a nap before the second meal, which she found a little odd considering she had slept so much she might fall sick from it. However, with how her mind had churned while she was alone in her room, it didn’t come as too much of a surprise.

Jael was the one who woke her up in time for the last meal. She reluctantly opened her eyes to see him looking down at her with worry. She smiled at him, unable to help herself, especially when she knew the frown on his face was because he was concerned about her.

"Do you still need to sleep?" he asked.

Mauve shook her head and moved to a sitting position. "I didn’t even know when I slept," she said with a yawn.

"Oh, would you like me to let you sleep some more?"

"No!" she replied, shaking her head as she started to get out of bed. "I have slept enough for a month." She chuckled.

"A month is merely an exaggeration," he said, staring at her face.

"Is my hair a mess?" she asked.

"Why?" He frowned.

"I just woke up, and you’re looking at me funny," she said, trying to adjust it with her hands.

Jael laughed. "It is certainly not for the reasons you think, but don’t worry; Mill will help you with that."

"Mill," she said, looking around. That was when she realized she and Jael weren’t alone.

"My lady," Mill bowed and moved closer. "Let me help you with your hair."

Mauve winced at the title, but she didn’t complain. She just smiled at Mill and moved forward. "I would love that. Thank you."

Mill lifted her gaze, and Mauve could see the vampire was pleased. She hurried to where Mauve stood and led her to the dresser, where she got Mauve ready for the last meal of the day.
