Chapter 660. Prank
Chapter 660: 660. Prank
Jael watched Mauve eat his meal as though she hadn’t eaten in years. He tried to speak to her, but she just held out her hand to stop him and ravished the food. Louis stood dumbfounded in the corner as he stared. Jael understood how he felt; he felt the same.
"Water, please?" she said as she finished everything on the plate.
"Here you go," Louis said, handing the cup to her as though he had been waiting for her to ask for it.
She smiled sluggishly at him and accepted it. She gulped the water, spilling some over her body and down onto her clothes. "Careful," Jael cried, taking the cup from her.
She grinned at him and leaned against his chest. "I am very full," she said, and that was immediately followed by soft, steady breathing as she fell fast asleep.
"Did she?" Louis blinked. "Did she just fall asleep?" He threw his head back and laughed.
"Yeah," Jael said absentmindedly and slowly placed her on the bed, getting her comfortable while Louis took the tray from the bed.
"Well, good to know she’s alright. I will call someone to clean this mess," he said and started for the door. "We are not done here," he said to Jael.
Jael didn’t acknowledge this. He kept his eyes glued to her until the door shut. Jael lightly touched her face and ran his hand down the side of her neck. His expression moved from relief to worry and then neutral.
A few minutes later, Mill walked in. She looked anxious and a little happy. "Sire," she said as she walked in.
"I heard she woke up," she mumbled.
"Yeah," Jael said. "Briefly. Enough to eat and drink, and she is back to sleeping again."
"That’s good news," Mill said happily. "That means she is just tired and as soon as she gets enough sleep she will be awake again."
"I hope so," Jael said with a stiff smile.
Mill bent and picked up the tray. "I will be back with your meal, sire."
"There is no need for that," Jael said.
"Lord Louis said you should eat, or he would have to come back again."
"Who do you take orders from Mill?" he questioned.
"I am sorry. I won’t bring it," Mill said with a bow.
"Fine, you may bring something for me to snack on. I will stay by her side as long as I can before she wakes up. Hopefully, that happens soon," he said and turned to look at Mauve, who was sleeping without a care in the world, unaware of the worries of the people around her.
"At once," Mill responded and fled to the door.
Jael stayed by her side for as long as he could afford to, but soon enough, he had duties to attend to and had to leave her. He would occasionally pop in to check on her, but she kept sleeping, and Mill said she hadn’t woken up at all. If it weren’t for the fact that she did wake up once and ate, he would have feared the worst.
He was completely distracted for the rest of the day, his thoughts solely on Mauve. When the last meal of the day arrived, he barely ate and mostly sat mum during the entirety of the meal, quick to return to his room shortly after.
He pushed open the door to find Mill sitting next to Mauve as she watched her. She stood up as soon as he opened the door and bowed. He waved to her and walked closer. "Has there been any change?" he asked.
"I am afraid not, Sire. She is still sleeping peacefully."
Jael nodded and stood by the bed. She was lying on her front with her head to the side. Jael didn’t think this was a very comfortable position. He quickly dismissed Mill and got ready for bed. He climbed in and hugged her to himself.
She grumbled but didn’t pull away. Jael doubted he would be able to sleep deeply as he wanted to be awake the moment she was. He didn’t want to miss anything. As soon as something was wrong, he wanted it dealt with.
With this thought in mind, it took him a while to fall asleep, but eventually, he did and dozed off. Occasionally, his eyes would fly open when she so much as breathe differently, but Mauve didn’t wake up, and soon enough, sunrise came, and he had to head out again.
***
Mauve woke up, and the first thing she realized was that she was alone but not just alone; she felt a little weird. She brought her hand to her mouth as she yawned. Her bladder was also on the verge of bursting. She quickly took care of this, almost falling as she got out of the huge bed. She couldn’t understand why her legs felt so weak.
She yawned again. Why did she feel like she could eat a carriage filled with food? She rubbed her eyes and walked to the connecting door. It should be almost time for the first meal, but there was no sign of Jael or Mill. Neither of them was here, and this was Jael’s room. She could not imagine where he could have gone.
Mauve quickly made her way to the connecting door and pushed it open. Her room was dark, and it looked like it hadn’t been used in a while. She managed to make it to the window, as she was used to the structure of the room, and threw it open along with the curtains.
The moon was high in the sky, and the light trickled into the room. It wasn’t enough to offer brightness, but it was enough for her to see around the room. She moved to the bed and sat on it, waiting for Mill as she wondered what could possibly be taking so long.
After a while, she figured out the maid wasn’t coming, and she walked to the side of the bed and pulled on the string to call on a servant. Mauve returned back to sitting, and in less than two minutes, she heard loud footsteps coming up the stairs. She found this a bit odd, as vampires were very quiet.
Mill knocked and immediately pushed the door open. Her eyes widened as they rested on Mauve, and she quickly rushed to the bed. "You’re awake," she cried.
Mauve shrugged. "Yeah, you took so long. I was wondering what was happening. Jael also wasn’t in bed when I woke up. At this point, we would be late for the first meal," she said.
"The first meal," Mill said and let out a laugh. She looked so happy and relieved. "The first meal was over hours ago. The second meal should start in a little over two hours. I will get you something to eat now. Oh, I have to let the Primus know," Mill rambled and rushed to the door.
"Wait," Mauve cried. "What do you mean? I don’t recall doing anything strenuous the day before. There is no way I could have slept for that long."
"You have been asleep for almost two days. You slept the entirety of yesterday and half of today, pretty."
"What? That’s not possible," she said and half stood up from the bed. "Yesterday, I—" she started to say and then paused.
"Do you not recall what happened?" Mill asked.
Mauve shook her head.
"That’s not important right now. As long as you’re awake. I will be right back. I will bring the Primus and some food and help you clean up. If there is anything you’d like, my lady, I shall ask the cook to make it for you."
"I want... Wait a minute? My lady?" Mauve laughed. "Are you sure you’re okay, Mill? Are you playing a prank on me? Is this Louis’s idea? First, you tell me I have been asleep for two days, and now you call me this." She laughed. "I was worried for a second."
"No, this isn’t a prank. I am sorry if I may have confused you, but you were asleep for that long, my lady."
"My lady!" Mauve cried. "What’s that? You call me Mauve."
"Yes," Mill nodded, "but I am afraid I can no longer do that."
"Why not?" Mauve asked with a frown.
"I can’t tell you that either," Mill said with a bow.
"Louis put you up to this, didn’t he? I thought Jael wouldn’t agree to this either. Where is he?" she asked.
"The Primus should be in the study. I will get him right away. Please wait here."
Mauve opened her mouth to say something in return, but Mill was already walking to the door. She blinked, looking around, then carefully pulled on her skin as she tried to make sure she was still awake. "What’s going on here?" she asked out loud. She was a bit out of it, and she could tell she was missing something.
