Chapter 637: 637. Priotize Your Health

"Right here," Jean said from the top of the stairs. "I went to get my bag." He sounded breathless, and it was clear he had been running.

"Take her to her room, let him attend to her there. I will take care of this."

Jael had stopped thrashing around, and she could see Kieran leaning over him. She didn’t even know when he appeared. Louis still held Jael down even though he wasn’t struggling anymore. Erick stood a couple of feet away and just stared. Danag was bent over Damon and seemed to be drinking some blood out of a bag.

Mauve was hesitant at first, but Mill didn’t give her a chance to counter Louis’s order as she carefully turned around and headed up the staircase with Mauve in her arms. Mauve leaned into Mill, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath.

Mill stopped in front of her room and led her in. Mauve still had her palm wrapped around her bleeding arm. Mill placed her on the bed, and Jean quickly rushed to her side. He moved fast, cleaning and wrapping her wound.

"I don’t think there should be any infection, and this should be healed in a couple of days."

Mauve smiled at him and tried to sit up.

"No," Jean scolded. "I think you should get some rest and remain in bed for at least the rest of the day."

"No," she shook her head. "I am just a little dazed from what happened." She blinked and looked from Jean’s face to the ceiling.

"You’re not just dazed," Jean corrected. "You lost a significant amount of blood in such a short time too. You need at least a couple of days to feel better."

"We don’t have a couple of days," she mumbled. "You have to leave by tomorrow night."

"I don’t mind waiting a few extra days, but at least for today, take as much rest as you need."

"I feel fine," she stubbornly said.

"Mauve, please," Mill called out. "You look paler than I have ever seen you."

"Okay," she said and closed her eyes.

"I will get you something to eat. You missed the last meal."

"Lots of liquids too," Jean interjected, and Mill nodded to him before she slipped out.

"I don’t think I have much of an appetite. I doubt I would be able to eat what she brings."

"You have to try."

Mauve simply nodded. It was a little hard to talk, and the burning sensation in her hand wasn’t completely gone. At least the pain was easier to ignore now. She wondered how Jael was doing. She should probably go see him.

How did it turn out like this? It was hard to keep track of her thoughts. It was like trying to swim through muddy waters, but a very unpleasant feeling and it was just as difficult. She raised her hand to look at the wrapped injury and lightly shook her head. What would have happened if she hadn’t been able to get Jael to drink her blood? She knew Jael wasn’t invincible, but that wasn’t a situation she had ever pictured herself in.

"Is something wrong?" Jean suddenly said, pulling her out of her thoughts.

"No," she mumbled and let her hand fall to her side. "My head is starting to hurt a little."

"That’s expected. Try to go to sleep as soon as you eat as much as you can."

"Hmm, I’d like to see Jael first."

"I don’t know about that. You have to prioritize your health, Princess."

"It would just be a quick visit," she replied. "I want to make sure he is doing alright."

Jean opened his mouth to speak, and then the doors opened, revealing Mill. She walked quickly to the side of the bed and placed the meal on the bedside table. Then she carefully lifted Mauve and rested her back on the bed frame. Certain that Mauve wouldn’t fall forward or backward, she brought some food to her lips.

Mauve laughed, "I am not that tired. I can feed myself."

"Still, this costs me nothing, and I have to make sure you eat as much as you can."

Mauve shrugged; it was easier to comply. She could see the vampire was determined, and Mauve felt a little more tired as the minutes dragged on.

"Would there be any complications?" Mill asked Jean.

"I don’t think so. She seems fine. I am sure with enough food and water, she should be back to optimal health soon enough."

Mauve smiled at Mill as if to say, I told you so. "I want to see Jael," she blurted out.

"Not yet," Mill said and didn’t add anything more. "Finish your food."

After a couple of minutes, Mauve turned her head away. She didn’t think she could eat another morsel or drink another cup of water. "I am full."

"You barely eaten."

"I am starting to feel a little nauseous," she mumbled.

Mill glanced at Jean, and the physician shuffled on his feet. "As long as she doesn’t actually throw up, there is no cause for concern. Don’t force her; just try to give her food occasionally."

"Okay..." The rest of Mill’s words trailed off at the knock on the door.

The handle turned, and Louis walked in. He looked like a mess. There was blood all over him. His face had blisters, but they weren’t too hard to look at. Mauve didn’t realize he was in poor condition too, as she had concentrated on Jael.

"You’re awake," he mumbled as he stepped in. "I was worried I would have a case on my hands. How do you feel?"

Mauve shot him a dirty look.

"Great, then. The fact that you still have the energy to look at me like that—I will take that as a good sign."

"How do you feel?" she asked.

Louis seemed a little taken aback. "That’s my line. I am not the one in bed."

"I am not the one with blisters on my face and arms," she whispered.

"Give it a couple of days, and I will be back to my pale old self."

"Thank you," she mumbled.

"For what?" he asked.

"For bringing Jael back."

Louis sighed, and his expression briefly revealed his true feelings before he masked them again. "This shouldn’t have happened. It could have been avoided. I am glad you weren’t more injured than you were; it would have been my fault."

Mauve frowned, remembering he was the one who told her to move. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have reacted in time to give Jael blood. She didn’t regret it. If a little pain meant he was alive now, she would take it.

"I doubt it," she mumbled, suddenly feeling her strength leave her. "I would have ended up giving him blood whether or not you had said to. How is he? Can I see him?"

Louis’s gaze hardened. "You should think about yourself first. Besides, the asshole is fast asleep, oblivious to what he put us all through tonight. Kieran is currently watching him, and he drank enough blood to drown a child. He should be the least of your worries."

"Still, I want to see him," she said and pushed herself from the bed frame, but Mill held her down.

"I don’t think you should leave the bed. It would be a waste of energy. I don’t think he will wake up until morning. He lost a lot of blood and needs time to reset. You can see him once you have gotten enough rest and look less pale."

"I am not that p-pale," she tried to say, but her words wobbled on her lips.

"Get some sleep. I already have enough on my hands as it is. Do you know who that asshole is going to yell at the moment he wakes up and discovers what happened—as if this isn’t his fault? You would be doing all of us a favor by taking care of yourself."

Mauve nodded and adjusted so she was lying down. "I suppose you’re right. Let me know when he wakes up."

Louis nodded. "I will and thank you."

"There is no need for that. Besides, my blood wasn’t nearly enough, and I almost bled out."

"That’s too far-fetched. I never would have let that happen. I would have ripped his jaws apart."

Mauve laughed, "You’re both more similar than you know."

"Whatever. Get some sleep," he said and turned away from her. "Take care of her," he said as he walked to the door.

"I will," Mill whispered, her voice not as vibrant.

"Let me know if something happens." She nodded, and he slipped out of the door.

"I think I can leave you alone now," Jean whispered.

Mauve nodded and closed her eyes. She knew it wouldn’t be too hard to fall asleep. She already felt so tired. She heard Jean say something to Mill as he walked towards the door, but Mauve couldn’t hear the conversation.
