The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 617. More Clingy
Chapter 617: 617. More Clingy
Mauve tried to eat, but she could feel the tense air in the dining hall, and it wasn’t even between Jael and Louis. Louis seemed unbothered by what had transpired in the library, and Jael was paying him no mind. She hoped the incident wouldn’t add more rifts to their relationship.
Nonetheless, it was the behavior of the other Lords that bothered Mauve. Something was very wrong. No wonder Jael had acted a bit weird earlier. She wondered if they tried to hunt Palers and then something happened.
It was hard to place what the issue was, but it was obvious it bothered them all. Corbin looked in her direction and then looked away. She frowned; it was hard to guess what was going on in the vampire’s mind.
Since the incident, he had mostly left her alone. He would glance at her every now and then, but nothing that bothered her. However, recently, since she fell ill, she couldn’t help but think his stares were becoming even more frequent.
She pushed the thought away and concentrated on her meal. She let out a yawn and frowned. How could she be yawning while eating?
She did know that she felt a bit tired, but it was as if the more she ate, the more tired she got. She would most likely get some sleep as soon as she was done with the meal. She didn’t miss the look Louis shot her, and she frowned about asking what was wrong, but Jael drew her attention.
"Are you tired?" He asked.
She nodded, "I think I would just go to sleep immediately after the second meal."
"That’s a good idea," he looked especially pleased about this.
Mauve could only smile. He truly didn’t like that she was spending all that time with Louis. She almost wished he wasn’t so busy; she knew he would want to spend more time with her.
She wondered if she could stay with him while they were training. She figured this was a bad idea, but she wanted to see it, and maybe this might make Jael less grumpy. She was sure he trusted her, but he wanted her all to himself, and she wasn’t complaining.
He raised his head to see she was looking at him with a bright smile on her face, and he looked away. Mauve almost laughed. Was he embarrassed? She wondered if he would like it if she were a little more clingy.
Oh, what was she thinking? The tiredness must be getting to her. She returned her attention to her food and tried to finish it as fast as she could. When the second meal was over, Jael gladly led her to her room.
He didn’t leave until he tucked her into bed. "Let me know as soon as you wake up," he said and kissed her forehead.
"Won’t you be busy?" She asked.
"Not exactly. We would be in the compound, so you can interrupt me anytime."
"I don’t think that’s a good idea," she replied.
"I think that is a great idea," he responded with a grin.
Mauve laughed; his good mood was contagious. "Okay, I will do just that."
He started to pull away but stopped. "Can I ask you something?"
"Of course," she grinned at him.
"What do you and Louis do in the library? No, I don’t think anything weird. I was just wondering."
Mauve laughed, "I know. We mostly just read and talk about mundane things. I am trying to convince him to teach me the old language, but he keeps saying that’s against the rule."
"There is no such rule for you. I will teach you if you want."
Mauve smiled at him. "I would love that very much. You should go," she said. "I will get some sleep."
He kissed her on the top of her head again, seeming reluctant to go. "I will see you later."
"Same," she said. "I love you very much."
Jael blinked. He looked taken aback by her words, and it made it worth it to say. She didn’t know why she suddenly felt so expressive, but the moment he had walked through the doors of the library, she had realized she loved him so much and didn’t tell him enough. Also, she didn’t want him to worry about Louis. It was stupid.
"I love you more," he replied and turned away.
Somehow, she knew that if he didn’t leave when he did, he might have never left. She closed her eyes as she tried to sleep. Her thoughts churned, but somehow she was more tired than her whirlpool of thoughts, and she was asleep before she realized.
"Mauve," a voice was calling to her. "Wake up."
She groaned and rolled to her side. She didn’t want to wake up. "No," she mumbled.
"You’re going to miss the last meal at this rate, but if you prefer to eat here, I can arrange that."
Mauve’s eyes flew open, and she sat up immediately. "What? The last meal? How long have I been asleep?"
"I am sure you can take a guess," Jael said.
"Why did you let me sleep so long?" She asked.
"I wasn’t here, but it seems like you must have been tired," he commented.
Mauve stretched her arms. Maybe she had been, but still, that was at least five hours of sleep. "I can’t believe I slept for that long." She didn’t think she was that tired.
"Does anywhere hurt?" He asked.
She shook her head. "I feel fine. I don’t think there is anything to worry about. I am more annoyed than concerned. Have you been back for long?" She asked.
He shook his head, "I just got back."
"Really? It must have been gruesome."
"Not really, we are trying new things. It took a while for the newbies to get the hang of it."
"Oh okay, sounds hectic. Jael, can I ask you something?" It felt like the right time to ask, and she didn’t want to stall.
