Chapter 602. Something Was Up
Chapter 602: 602. Something Was Up
Mauve roused awake, not to any sound, she just woke up. Her eyes flew open the instant she stopped sleeping. The first thing she noticed was that she was naked on Jael’s chest.
"Did you sleep well?" His voice reached her ears.
Of course, he was awake. "What do you think?" She asked sarcastically, feeling annoyed. The smug tone in his voice definitely had something to do with it.
"Are you sure you want to know what I think?" As he asked, he lifted her face so she could look at him, and she could clearly see the left corner of his lips lift in a smirk.
"No, thank you. I slept well," she replied. "You?"
"What do you think?" He asked, clearly enjoying himself.
Mauve wanted to smack him, but that was due to personal reasons, not like he was doing anything wrong.
"If you’re not going to tell me, I am not going to guess," she mumbled and placed her head back on his chest.
Staring at his face for too long was too much for her. She had just woken up, so she certainly wasn’t thinking straight.
"Did you have a bad dream?" He suddenly asked.
"What?" She raised her head.
"You seem angry," he replied. The smirk on his face was permanent at this point.
Mauve glared at him, "I am not angry."
She started to get off him, but he stopped her pulled her closer to his face, and took her lips with his.
It was a soft kiss, or so she thought. He tugged at her lower lip and deepened the kiss as he sucked on her tongue and invaded the inmost part of her mouth.
He pulled away, leaving Mauve breathless and dizzy. "Mill is already in your room. I will come get you right after you bathe," he said.
Mauve nodded mechanically; she couldn’t even remember what she had wanted to say. She just nodded in compliance.
She slowly rolled off him, wrapping herself in the sheets as she got out of bed.
"What?" She asked softly when she glanced back, and Jael had a strange look on his face.
He adjusted on the bed so he could face her while lying sideways. His upper body was lifted by his right elbow, which rested on the bed. One of his legs was laid straight while the other was bent at the knee. Frankly speaking, he left absolutely nothing to the imagination, and Mauve found that her gaze strayed.
The candlelight was hitting him just right, casting a faint shadow but not enough to hide the show; rather, it gave it the perfect allure.
"I am just annoyed at how insistent you are on not giving me a show," he responded with a disappointed sigh. He caught her eyes and added, "Unlike me."
Mauve glared at him; of course, she had been staring, who wouldn’t? However, the fact that Jael wouldn’t hesitate to tease her about this embarrassed her.
She didn’t reply to his comment; rather, she rushed to the door and slipped out of it as fast as she could.
"Mauve," Mill called with a frown as she rushed into her room.
"Is everything okay?"
"Yeah," Mauve replied and smiled at Mill, who didn’t waste any time returning it.

Jael was true to his word, as usual, and he did come to get her in time for the first meal. At this point, she had forgotten she was supposed to be angry at him and leaned into him as they walked to the dining room together.
He pulled out her seat, and she mumbled her thanks as she got comfortable. He dropped into his seat, and the rest of the table did the same.
Mauve’s eyes scanned the table. Jean wasn’t there, and she didn’t think he had joined them since he came to the castle.
Mauve couldn’t blame him; the vampires at the castle were more than he had ever seen, and it was best if he remained in his room.
She was used to it, so it didn’t really bother her whether they increased or decreased, but she doubted it was the same for Jean, who clearly was bothered by the vampires’ presence.
Damon sat right next to her this time, followed by Danag and then Erick. It was funny how it wasn’t fixed how the personal guards sat, but Erick made sure never to sit next to her.
He jerked his head in her direction with a disdainful look on his face as if sensing her gaze. She didn’t look away immediately and could clearly see his frown deepen. She slowly turned away from him, and his gaze landed on Corbin.
It was hard to say what she saw. He was clearly staring back at her, and she didn’t look away, holding his gaze. She felt his gaze shake a little, and he broke the stare first.
She didn’t know what to make of this, so she just didn’t think about it and moved her attention to her meal.
Louis, however, looked a little distracted. He would occasionally stare out, and he mostly ignored her the entire meal.
Kieran sat next to Louis, and Mauve was genuinely shocked that Kieran was still at the castle. She couldn’t remember a time he stayed around for this long, which gave her the impression that something was going on.
She forced herself to concentrate on her meal. It wasn’t as if she would be able to do anything if she did discover what was wrong. Right now, she would put her thoughts into things she could actually change, and that was getting better.
Mauve let Jael lead her out of the dining hall when the meal was over. "Where would you like to go?" He asked her.
"Do you have to go?" She asked.
He knew what she was talking about and simply nodded. "I am afraid so. As soon as I can, I’ll come join you."
"Is something wrong?" She asked. "With the Palers?"
He slowed down his steps as they got to the bottom of the stairs. He turned to look at her, and something passed across his face. Mauve braced herself as she waited for his reply.
