Chapter 598: 598. Moisturize

Mauve watched Jean stare at her in awe. It was just after the last meal and Jael had called him in to check on the state of her health.

"What do you think?" Jael asked when the silence filled the room and Jean was still not saying anything.

Jean was bent on his knees with his head the same height as Mauve’s arm while she sat upright on the bed.

One of his hands held Mauve’s hand while the other held the lamp which he used to study her arm a little too closely.

It was hard to see his face when it was almost glued to her hand. He let go of it and stretched out his palm. She gave him the second one and stared intensely at it.

The suspense in the air was thick and Mauve could see Jael pacing from the corner of his eyes. The fact that he was walking around that much but no footstep could be heard was pretty impressive.

She doubted Jean had heard Jael’s question. He wasn’t the type to ignore anyone let alone Jael. Jean looked completely hypnotized by the patches on her arm.

She was also curious. She could barely see his expression so it was hard to tell if this was a good or bad sign.

"What do you think?" She repeated Jael’s question, hoping to break through Jean’s concentration as she was closer to him than Jael was.

He jerked his head up as if shocked she could speak. "Ah, yes," he said and slowly let go of her hand.

He pulled backward and then stood to his feet. His eyes moved to her arms as he stood to his full height and then he slowly moved his eyes to her face.

"Nothing to worry about so far. The patches are a bit slow to fade out but considering you don’t have fever and any other symptoms, there is no reason for concern. How do you feel?" He asked.

"Like I am bubbling with energy," she smiled, happy at his words. She didn’t miss the glare Jael shot at her.

"Good," he replied nodding his approval.

"She moved around a little too much today, don’t you think that’s bound to affect her health?"

He made eye contact with her and she knew he was also referring to what happened before they fell asleep. She looked away, worried her face would give her away.

Jean glanced at Jael and back at Mauve "I don’t think so. She should be able to do things she usually would. It has been three nights since we first noticed the marks on her arms fading that should be enough time for her to get her energy back. You have been eating properly all this time, right?"

"Of course, my appetite is better than ever."

"Then there should be no problem. Just don’t tire yourself out. If you feel even the slightest bit of fatigue, rest up immediately. I will be back to check up on you by sunset."

"Thank you, Jean," she said with a big smile.

"You don’t have to thank me, Mauve." He replied.

"Of course I have to, I am really grateful to you," she responded.

"Also, don’t forget to keep your skin moisturized. If it’s too dry you might end up with injuries as it peels off."

"I won’t," she responded.

He smiled and bowed, "Good. I wish you sweet dreams as you go to sleep," he said.

"You too." Mauve’s smile was starting to hurt at this point but she didn’t care.

He stood to his full height and started for the door. A few feet away from Jael, Jean bowed and Jael nodded.

Jean stood upright but kept his head bent. He opened the door and slipped out of it closing it behind him.

As the door shut, Mauve turned her attention to Jael to see he was already walking towards her. He got to the side of the bed and dropped on it.

She stared at him, giving him a knowing look as she watched his worried expression ease up. He lightly touched her and she leaned into him.

"I told you there was nothing to worry about," she grinned.

"And I said there was no harm in checking," he replied. His eyes roved her face.

"Well true. As long as it makes you feel better."

"It does," he insisted.

"I am sure," she chuckled. "With the way you were pacing, one would think we were about to hear how long I had left."

"I am glad you can make jokes about the situation," he gave her an annoyed look. "Besides, I had more than enough reason to be worried."

"True," she blushed slightly. "But it wasn’t as if I was pushing myself. If I was tired, I would have let you know." She pouted and pulled her head from his palm.

"I find that hard to believe. You tend to push yourself past your limit," he said.

"That’s not true," she replied with a frown.

He raised a brow, "Are you sure?" He asked.

"Maybe I can be a little persevered sometimes but I wouldn’t say I do that at the detriment of my health."

"If you say so," he said and went over her body to lie on the other side of the bed.

"Jael," she called, not liking that he was practically not agreeing with her.

"What?" He asked and she could see a hint of a smile at the corner of his lips.

"Nothing," she replied and laid down, pulling the cover over her shoulders and turning away from him.

"You’re adorable," he replied and kissed the side of her face.

She shut her eyes and still refused to look at him. She felt him lay behind her and pull her to himself. She could feel his entire frame behind her.

He kissed the back of her head and said, "Sleep tight, my love."

Mauve blushed a little, "I hope you have nightmares."

"With you beside me, that is impossible."

"Whatever," she responded and turned so she could bury her face in his chest.

He kissed the top of her head and Mauve closed her eyes. She could never tire of the feel of his arms around her.
