The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 596. Tight-lipped
Chapter 596: 596. Tight-lipped
"What do you mean?" Mauve asked.
"Most people run away from strange things," he responded.
"Strange?!" Her brows furrowed. "It’s magic," she enunciated with her hands. "Anyone would want to know more about it."
She took a deep breath, annoyed that Louis was giving her an amused look instead of responding.
"I am glad you have a positive look at it. I was concerned it was a bad idea to involve you in it."
"I have so many questions but I am sure you won’t answer any of them."
"Don’t be so judgmental. You never know."
"Would you teach me more about magic and what you know about it?"
Louis sat up straight, his back unmoving. "I only did that out of curiosity. In case you didn’t notice, I am a very curious person."
"I don’t think the word I would use is curious," she said, rolling her eyes at him.
"However," he articulated. "I have no intention of going further with this."
"You are joking!" She said, stubbornly as she looked at him with disbelief. She didn’t believe a word he was saying.
"I am not," he responded. "I don’t know the repercussions magic has but it is easy to tell it can’t be good it isn’t not as well known as it should be."
Mauve didn’t like his tone, she wanted to say it sounded as though he was lying.
"Only because people are unaware of it and the ones who know are exceedingly tight-lipped." Mauve glared at him.
"For good reason too,"
"You can’t drag me into this and then decide you’re going to drop me. Not after keeping me in the dark for so long. I deserve more than an explanation that I haven’t gotten."
"I think it is best you forget all about it," Louis said with a shrug and leaned back in his seat.
Mauve narrowed her eyes and mirrored his actions. "I suppose you’re right." She said and folded her arms. "It’s seems like shady business in itself."
Louis blinked, "Eh, yes. It is."
"You’re terrible at lying," she smirked. "Your eyes gleam when you talk about magic. The fact that you would watch me get the hang of it is exciting to you. I know you wouldn’t let the opportunity pass you. You dragged me into it because you knew I would be equally invested enough to keep it a secret and do as you wish."
Louis threw his head back and chuckled. "Nobody has ever said I am that easy to read."
"You’re not! You’re just that curious about this subject. You never would have gotten me involved if you thought it was too dangerous for me."
He raised his head and looked her straight in the eye. She could tell he wasn’t very pleased that she knew this.
"I suppose you’re right. I won’t deny it. I am breaking a bunch of rules here, you have no idea," he laughed again. It was a bubbly sound that echoed in the library hall.
"Rules?" She frowned. "What rules?"
"If you cease your questions, until I feel like divulging more," he said, ignoring her question. "I may consider the option of teaching magic to you."
"You would?" She asked.
"Yeah, I would." His face brightened up and his eyes sparkled. "I wonder how this would go?"
"When do we start?" She asked.
He blinked at her, "At least think about it!"
She gave him an unimpressed glare. "I already did. What do you think I spent the past months doing?"
"This could be a bad idea for all you know."
She shrugged. "Besides, I might not be good at it and the last time was a fluke. I didn’t even finish the spell."
"True."
"That reminds me, you took the book out of the library, didn’t you?"
"Of course I did." He gave her a look that suggested he couldn’t believe she was asking that question.
"Why?" She glowered at him.
"You were going to practice by yourself and that is obviously not a good idea."
"I wouldn’t say practice, more like confirm what I thought I saw."
"Same thing. I definitely would want to avoid that. The last thing we need is you setting the library ablaze or worse."
"Whatever." She rolled her eyes at him. She would never be that careless. "Now when do we start?" She asked.
"You don’t have to worry about that. Get better first."
"You always do this. You make several excuses.
"I am not doing this to stall. Magic takes more energy than you’d think and the last thing you would want to do is learn it with a weakened body. Absolutely not. We won’t even attempt it if you have fully recovered."
Mauve pouted and glared at him. "You won’t come up with another excuse once I am all better, right?"
"I won’t," he said.
"I want your word on it."
"You have my word," he smirked,
"Okay," she said and nodded her head. "I will concentrate on getting better then you will teach me Magic and everything you know about it.
"Yeah, yeah."
She narrowed her eyes at him. "Was this one of the things you found out in your travels?" She asked when the silence stretched on.
"You and your questions." He said.
"You didn’t say I couldn’t ask about your travels."
He shook his head. "I already told you I knew about Magic long enough. Which should tell you I knew about magic even before I left the Vampire Regions."
She nodded her head. These books were already here before he came back which meant they were here before he left. Just how long have they known about magic and why was it such a secret?
He sounded like he couldn’t tell her more not because he liked the idea of leaving her in the dark but more for her safety and to hide something. It was hard to know for sure.
Were vampires the ones who hated magic? Was there something she was missing? She had so many questions it made her head ring.
"What would happen if someone were to find out you were teaching me magic?" She asked.
Louis’s gaze darkened. "I may have to travel again and this time around, it won’t be voluntary."
"They won’t exile you for something like that."
Louis laughed. "Enough about the subject. I already said to cease the questions about magic. As long as you keep your lips sealed both to me and Jael, you will know in due time."
She gave him an unimpressed look. "Can I ask you something else instead?"
Louis squinted his eyes. "I am listening."
"You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to but I figured if anyone were to know it would be you."
"Your phrasing is suspicious but then go ahead. I am all ears. I will answer to the best of my abilities."
Mauve cleared her throat but she would need more than a clear throat for this.
"You mentioned Jael needing an heir, right?" She waited for Louis’s nod before she continued. "Is it because Vampires have no regard for humans or humans and vampires can’t procreate together?"
