The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 594. The Vampire Way

Chapter 594: 594. The Vampire Way

Mauve stood back as Louis pulled the door to the roof open for her. She mumbled her thanks and walked out the door leading to the roof.

She squinted as she got to the top of the roof. Her eyes were having a hard time adjusting to the darkness and she realized it was a bad idea to come here without any source of light.

However, she didn’t really need it. Her goal wasn’t to weed out any unwanted plants rather it was just to see her garden. Also, according to a certain person she couldn’t do more than that.

"Don’t you need some sort of light?" Louis asked.

She slowly shook her head as she walked forward knowing he was behind her because of how close his voice sounded but not being able to hear a single footstep.

"I won’t be doing anything, so it’s fine. Besides," she spun, facing him just before she got to the plants. "I need to have a word with you."

Louis looked genuinely taken aback and immediately stopped right in his tracks. "I suppose you do," he said starting to go around her.

"Don’t answer like that," she replied.

"How else am I supposed to answer?" He asked with a hint of laughter in his voice.

"I don’t know," she replied and began to walk after him. "Maybe a little more enthusiastic and not make it seem like I am making things up."

"I never said that and how you reached that conclusion should be studied. It is unexpected how your garden is actually really good."

He walked closer touching the nearest plant. Mauve moved her attention to it, squinting her eyes to see.

His backhanded compliment was irritating but she had more pressing matters.

"I am not here to talk about flowers," she replied.

"But you’re here to see them. When you’re done we can talk."

She turned her eyes to him, narrowing her eyes at him. "Promise?" She asked.

"I already did."

"Did you and Jael fight?" She tried again.

Louis blinked, raising his head to look at her. "Catching me off guard every time eh?"

He was standing right in the middle of the garden with plants around him. The moon gave the sight a bit of a glow.

"You did, didn’t you? He told me," she said.

"He did? Even I wouldn’t have guessed that. Let me guess you squeezed it out of him."

She shrugged. "Squeezed is hardly the word I would use, I asked very politely."

"Yeah, if that’s what you want to call it."

"Are you mad at him?" She asked.

"I don’t know, really. He made it sound as though I did something so wrong. Besides, I told you in confidence, I didn’t expect it to reach his ears."

"I apologize about that. I know." She looked at her feet, feeling embarrassed. She still couldn’t figure out how she got the courage to spit it out to Jael.

Louis shrugged, "It’s not a problem. What did he tell you when you asked?"

"He said I wouldn’t have to worry about that," she replied.

"He did?" Louis asked in horror.

"You sound disappointed." She gave him an unimpressed look.

"I wouldn’t say that," he replied. "It’s just—" he sighed. "The last thing I am going to do is lie to you."

"I know you don’t mean any harm. Why else can I stand you even though you’re an asshole?"

"A lot of people would beg to differ."

"Name one."

"Fair point. As I was saying, he would have to pick a mate sooner than later. Dragging it out would only make things worse."

"If he doesn’t?" She asked.

"I don’t know," Louis said with a loud sigh. "They already have enough reasons to distrust him, he is about to give them a bigger one."

"What if I said I was fine with this? I never considered the possibility that he might not pick a mate but frankly, I like the idea very much." She pouted. "Surely, that can’t be bad?"

Louis gave her a sympathetic look. "He would need an heir eventually," Louis whispered.

Mauve felt her heart stop. "I figured," she looked down on her feet.

"Yeah," he replied.

"Would it be selfish if I asked that he wait seventy more years? Vampires can live for a very long time. By seventy, I should be very very close to my deathbed."

Louis’s gaze darkened, "That’s not what I expected you to say."

"I know but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t thought about it. Humans don’t live nearly as long as vampires do so if he waits seventy years more that won’t even put a dent in all the years you all have left."

"Are you trying to convince me?"

"No, I am saying don’t be so hard on him. I know what he needs to do and when the time comes, I will do my best to convince him why it’s a good idea but right now I will go against him getting a mate with every breath."

"You want me to let it go because when you’re seventy Jael can get a mate then?"

"Well, that’s the gist of it."

"I’ve let it go. It was never a major subject. I just didn’t want you getting hurt when it happened. I thought you were completely oblivious that’s why I mentioned it. I wasn’t trying to be hateful."

"I know," she whispered, nodding. "I know."

"It is funny how you never see anything bad in what I do or say. You take it in stride, you’re too forgiving. Also, coming up with the fact that you will die before Jael is just ridiculous."

"And you’re welcome." She glared at him.

"Want to know something? Take it as my apology."

"You have nothing to apologize for," she whispered with a grin.

"Just take it!" He glared at her.

"And you’re too nice," she grinned.

"No, I am not."

She smirked at him. "Yes, you are. Good to know the idea of me dying bothers you."

"It doesn’t! As I was saying," he continued. "Vampires would never acknowledge you as Jael’s bride because you aren’t married in vampire’s fashion so according to them you’re nothing more than a bloodslave but that can change."

She widened her eyes, "It can?"

"Yeah but if it does it won’t necessarily be a good thing as you would be considered a threat."

"I see. Why are you telling me this?" She asked.

He shook his head, "I don’t know. I thought I had a point but now I am not so sure."

"Are you saying I should be content with my position?" She asked with a frown.

"I don’t know. Take it however you want. I just thought it’s something you’d want to know."

"Thank you," she replied.

He shrugged, "It’s not exactly useful information but if you’re done here we can head to the library."

Mauve wouldn’t say that. She wondered if she would ever get married to Jael the Vampire way.
