Chapter 590: 590. Uncontrollable Thoughts

It has been two nights since Mauve first noticed the white patches on her skin were slightly fading. At first, she had to squint to confirm this but right now, it was obviously fading.

Unfortunately, this also made her skin peel. The areas with the white patches were a bit dry and flaking off. Mauve hated this but if this was the price she had to pay to recover it was a small price to pay.

"Would you not look at your skin with disgust written all over your face?" Jael scolded.

Mauve looked up at Jael with a soft smile, she didn’t think he had been watching her. She had been so engrossed with her skin that she didn’t realize he was out of the bath.

He stood in front of her with a towel tied around his waist. His wet hair fell down his face. He ran his hand through the front to get the hair out of his eyes.

Mauve felt her throat dry as she looked up at him and for a second she forgot what she wanted to say. However, his smirk pulled her back to reality.

"I wouldn’t say disgust, more like displeasure," she said and looked at her arm, inspecting it some more.

She was sitting on the bed with the covers up to her waist. Mill already got her ready for bed.

"You shouldn’t," Jael said. "Jean said it is a good thing."

She grimaced, "Yeah but it doesn’t make it less nasty."

It was too early for her to pick at it and it didn’t help that Jean was completely against that. She was supposed to allow the peels to fall out by themselves.

"It would just be for a while," he replied.

"You don’t know that," she said.

He climbed into the bed with the towel and Mauve found herself wondering if he was bare underneath. She couldn’t tell for certain.

"Well, we can hope. You have already made this much progress. This should be child’s play for you."

Mauve scoffed and returned her attention to her arm. "I feel like a freaking snake," she whined.

"A very pretty and sexy snake," Jael replied.

"Jael," she said with a bright blush.

He moved closer to her and took her arm. He lightly traced the area where her skin was threatening to come off with his fingers.

She shivered as his finger made contact with her skin. It was odd as his finger was warm from the bath.

"Does it hurt?" He asked.

"No," she replied. Her voice sounded lower than she wanted but it was hard to process her thoughts when he was this close.

"Good. You should go to sleep," he pulled his hand away and Mauve tried not to think about how she wanted him to keep touching her.

"That’s all I do these days because a certain person won’t let me out of his room. At this rate, I am worried I will wither away."

"I already said we can have our meals in the dining room by sunset."

"But that’s not nearly enough. I have enough strength to walk around. I don’t like being stuck in bed."

Jael sighed, "Fine you can leave the room. Just don’t push it. If there is even a slight change I’ll chain you the bed."

Mauve saw something flash across his face but it was too fast for her to read. His eyes lingered on her face a little before he turned away.

She grinned at him. "Thank you. I promise not to push it. How was your day?" She asked.

Jael shrugged and laid on his back with his arms behind his head. "Same old," he replied. "Otis’s absence is noticeable."

He groaned and rolled on his side, his gaze locked on her. She could tell he was more stressed out than he was letting on.

"Did you hunt Palers today?" She asked.

"No," he said coldly. "We planned to do that soon enough but things have been calm recently, we don’t want to set anything off."

He pinched the bridge of his nose and brought his hand down to his side. His wet hair was slightly soaking up the pillow.

Mauve was moving before she realized. She leaned towards him and placed her upper frame on the side of him.

She nodded gently, trying to offer any sort of comfort she could. His hand lifted and rested on the back of her head.

"How was your day?"

She scoffed, "You know exactly how my day went."

"Well, it doesn’t mean I don’t want you to tell me yourself."

"Alright. Mill spent most of the day with me, else I would have died of boredom hanging by myself."

"It will only be for a while," Jael said with a chuckle. "You never miss any opportunity to remind me that you don’t want to stay here any longer."

She pouted, "It would have been bearable if you spent as much time as you used to but these days, you have been pretty busy."

Jael caressed her head, "I apologize for leaving you by yourself and I really want to say I’ll do better but I doubt that will change any time soon."

"I figured. Do what you must. I just miss you."

"I know, I’ll try to fix this."

"No, it’s fine. You don’t have to cut your time off work for me. I will just see you when you’re less busy."

She grinned up at him at the end of her words and he slightly lifted his head off the pillow to look her in the face.

"Okay," he replied.

He placed his head back on the pillow and closed his eyes to sleep whereas now that the conversation was over all she could think about was the towel.

Has it really been that long that she had no control of her thoughts anymore?

"Jael," she called gently, her voice low. "Do you think we could—" Mauve’s voice cracked a little, she couldn’t believe what she was about to ask.
