Chapter 583. Stop Spreading
Chapter 583: 583. Stop Spreading
Mill pushed open the door at Mauve’s scream. She rushed to her and looked at her with a terrified expression before slowly dropping the candle on the table.
"What happened?" Mill looked at Mauve and around her as Mill tried to figure out what the issue was.
Mauve shook her head, "I almost set myself ablaze," she said with a dazed look on her face.
"How?" Mill asked.
"I was trying to check if the white patches had spread some more and then I heard you knock and got startled but I managed to save myself in time," Mauve explained with a sigh.
"Thank goodness." Mill bent down to touch her face. "Your cheeks have more color this morning," Mill said with a grin.
"You think," Mauve asked and touched her face. "I also noticed the white patches haven’t increased. At least, the ones on my arms. I was about the check under my dress when you knocked."
"So that’s why you got startled," Mill teased.
"I wasn’t expecting to be interrupted."
"My bad. Would you like me to check it for you?" Mill asked.
"Yes please," Mauve said.
"Okay, lay back."
Mauve nodded and laid on her back and Mill carefully lifted her dress. She lifted the dress high enough to expose Mauve’s underwear and most of her stomach.
Mauve watched her face as Mill stared intensely, she moved her head from one side to the other, inspecting.
After about a full minute, she pulled her head away and said, "I don’t think it has spread anymore but it is hard to tell. I can always check some other time just to make sure."
"Thank you," Mauve said as she moved to a sitting position. She pulled the dress down, adjusting it under her rear until it covered her legs.
"Would you like to have your bath now?" Mill asked.
"Not yet. Jean should be here soon. He said he would make a mixture for me to put over the white patches to stop it from spreading."
"Oh okay," Mill said. "I can go get him if you’d like."
"No, you don’t have to do that. I am sure Jael already sent someone to get him. We just have to wait."
"I will be right back then," Mill replied. "I want to get your bath water as well as a change of clothes. Is there anything you’d like? I can get it."
Mauve shook her head, "I am good."
"Alright, don’t get out of bed," Mill scolded.
Mauve laughed, "You sound just like Jael. I won’t."
Mill nodded and walked to the door. She pulled it open and let out a soft gasp. Her gasp echoed back louder and that was when Mauve realized it was from a different person.
"Jean," Mill called.
Jean bowed his head as he clasped what was in his hand to his chest.
"I didn’t see you there," Mill explained further.
"Is the princess awake?" He asked.
"Yes," Mill replied. "I will be right back, you can step in."
She stepped aside to make way for him while Jean nodded and walked past her. He didn’t stop walking until he got to the bed while Mill closed the door as she stepped out.
"Good evening, Mauve."
"I suppose it is evening. Good evening, Jean. Did you happen to get any sleep?" She asked.
He shook his head, "As always, it is taking me longer than necessary to get used to the sleep schedule around here."
"My apologies," she replied. "You wouldn’t have had to go through this if I hadn’t fallen sick.
"Don’t say that," he said. "Your health is certainly more important than my comfort.
"Thank you," she smiled.
"I brought it," he replied and stretched out something to her.
It was in a metal container and it had a lid. She watched him unscrew it and Mauve tried not to gag at the smell. It wasn’t that it was bad. It was just very intense.
"I need you to apply this twice daily, preferably after you shower. I truly do not know if it would be efficient or not, however, I can’t just sit by and do nothing."
"Thank you," she said.
"I don’t think you should thank me," he said and moved to place the ointment on the table.
"Jean," Mauve said slowly. "You do know what’s wrong with me, right?"
Mauve watched him freeze and then he recovered. "I actually don’t. The Vampire King said you think it is the White Disease."
"You say it might not be," she replied.
"It is similar but it is not the same thing," Jean said without looking at her face.
Mauve nodded, "Do you think I would recover completely?" She asked.
This time around, Jean looked right in the eyes as he spoke. "I don’t know."
"Thank you," she said with a smile. "For telling me the truth."
He nodded and walked back to her. "How do you feel today?" He asked.
Mauve shook her head, "Better, really. It must be the drugs."
"I don’t know, the drugs merely help your symptoms," he responded.
"The white patches didn’t increase this time so I will take that as a good sign."
"It didn’t?" Jean asked, giving her a surprised look.
"Not that I noticed. Mill also helped me check. She said she will keep an eye on it and let me know if she notices anything different."
Jean looked thoughtful for a second and then said, "Please keep me informed."
"Of course," she said. "How is your wife?" She asked. "I just realized I never asked."
"She’s good."
"How’s her pregnancy?" Mauve asked when he didn’t offer more information.
"So far so good, she still has a while to go." Mauve didn’t miss the look of pride in his eyes as he spoke.
Her heart squeezed a little, she couldn’t wait for her to get better so he could return to his family.
"I wish her a safe pregnancy and an even safer birth."
"Thank you, princess. Rosa would be devastated that I came to see you and didn’t inform her."
"Oh, I do miss her. I shall give you a letter to give her when you get back."
"She would absolutely love that," Jean said.
A soft knock drew their attention to the door. "Come in," Mauve said and Mill walked in with two servants behind her.
