Chapter 569: 569. Not Contagious

"Do you know what it is?" Mill asked at Mauve’s gasp.

Mauve tore her eyes away from her arm. "No, I don’t," she whispered looking at her foot. "It might be a reaction from the fever."

Mill looked suspiciously at her but didn’t push. "Okay." She returned the light to the table. "I will get you dressed."

Mauve nodded, she was in a daze. She hadn’t mentioned it to Mill because she was afraid if she said it out loud, she would confirm it.

It couldn’t be it, right? Mauve thought to herself as Mill dressed her up in comfortable clothes.

There was no way it was the white disease. It would mean she got it from Vae as her mother had it but that didn’t make any sense.

The white disease wasn’t transferable, she would have gotten it from her mother as a child. Or did it lay dormant all this while?

That wasn’t possible, it wasn’t contagious. Or did it mean it could take that long for it to reveal itself?

Mauve racked her head as she tried to look for the proper explanation for the situation and she couldn’t find it.

They didn’t have much information on the white disease, only that it creates white patches on the skin and after a few years they could fall terribly sick and die.

Nobody knew how it spread but the fact that there were only a handful of people in the kingdom with the disease even though it has been around for as long as she could remember, meant it didn’t spread the conventional way.

"Mauve."

"Mauve," Mill tried again.

It wasn’t until Mill lightly nudged her that she snapped out of it. Her mind was lost in the whirlpool of her thoughts.

"Yes," Mauve replied, sounding absentminded.

Mill frowned, "Are you sure you’re okay?"

"Yeah, sorry. Was a little lost in my thoughts."

Mill’s eyes narrowed. "Yeah, I’d say it was a little more than lost. Do you feel odd or are you in any sort of pain?"

Mauve shook her head. Her head still hurts but that was just about it. The nauseous sensation was also getting better.

Her temperature was still but at least it was stable and wasn’t getting any higher and now that she had just washed up, she was a bit cool.

"I am better. Thanks. The bath did feel very nice."

"That’s good. Can you walk?" Mill asked.

Mauve looked at her feet and then at Mill. She figured she should be able to walk to Jael’s room without help.

"I can carry you if you can’t," Mill said as she noticed her hesitation.

"No, I can walk."

The words were barely out of her lips when she tried to stand to her feet. It was a terrible idea because she fell back to the bed.

"Don’t push yourself, I will assist you," Mill offered out a hand to Mill as the other rested on her back.

Mauve nodded and accepted Mill’s outstretched palm. Mauve pressed down on it and Mill’s other hand supported her from behind.

She got to her feet, staggering a little but not enough to lose her balance. She took a step forward and another. It felt like she could make it without help.

She tried to increase the pace but Mill didn’t let her and she just let the vampire lead the way.

The sound of the connecting door opening caused Mauve to look at it and Jael was standing in the doorway.

"Sire," Mill called out but couldn’t give a full bow because she was holding onto Mauve.

The first thing Mauve noticed was that he was wearing a new shirt. It was loose, dropping just a little over his pants.

His hair looked wet but it was tied back in its usual ponytail. His jaw tightened as his eyes rested on her.

"Jael," Mauve said with a bright smile. He returned her smile or at least he tried to but it didn’t reach his eyes.

He closed the gap and she leaned against him, pulling away from Mill who was quick to let her go. Mauve leaned into Jael with a soft sigh. He held her to himself.

"How do you feel?" He asked.

She nodded against his chest, not saying a word. She was worried that if she opened her mouth, she might blurt out the fact that she thought she had the white disease and she didn’t want to say anything she wasn’t sure of.

Hell, this was something she hoped she was very wrong on. If she was even remotely right, that would be bad.

"I will take it from here," he said to Mill.

"Yes, Sire," Mill replied. Mauve just kept her head on Jael’s chest.

She felt him place his arms around her rear as he lifted her and she wrapped her legs and arms around him.

She rested her head on the corner of his neck feeling just how different in temperature their body was. She was almost certain she burnt his skin with her hot one.

He stepped back from the door and closed it behind himself before leading her to the bed.

He sat down on it and she still clung tightly to him. He didn’t bother to pull her away rather he stroked her back and hummed in her ears.

Mauve took a deep breath, she could smell the soap in his hair and it still looked a little wet.

It was tied in a ponytail so it didn’t bother her in any way. She groaned satisfactorily on his arms.

"I spoke to Kieran, he said you might have to stop taking the green juice."

Mauve nodded as she listened. Though she didn’t think it was the reason she threw up. If it was, she would have thrown up the very first time she took it.

"He said to eat and drink lots of liquids," Jael added.

Mauve nodded again.

"Do you think you can eat anything now?"

Mauve shook her head vigorously.

"What about in an hour or half?"

"I could try," she mumbled.

"Good girl," he praised.
