The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 548. End of the Party

Chapter 548: 548. End of the Party

Mauve watched Jael walk up the podium with a slight raise of his brows. He stopped in front of her and stared intensely.

"Welcome back," Louis said. "I simply said to go interact with a few Lords but you ended up having more fun at the party than the rest of us. I never would have believed you could dance."

"You know I can dance," Jael accused, his gaze never left Mauve as he spoke.

"Maybe but I assume it was knowledge you’d never have to use," Louis replied. "Well at least not in this manner."

"It was my pleasure to disappoint."

"Well, I hope it was worth it," Louis smirked.

Jael shot a look at Louis, not missing the vampire’s insinuation, and then looked back to Mauve.

"Mauve," Jael called.

Mauve tried to smile but faltered. She tried again. "You’re a really good dancer."

"Thank you," he replied, his eyes watching her closely. They roamed her face as though he was looking for something.

Mauve tried to compose herself, it was just a dance. There was no reason to act as though she had caught him in bed with another woman.

"My pleasure," she replied and he took a step closer.

He picked her up by the waist and placed her on his legs. "Did it bother you?" He whispered into her ears.

Mauve shook her head, glad she had her back to him he would be able easily to tell she was lying.

"Is that so?" He asked.

She nodded, wondering if she had heard a disappointed tone in his voice.

"However, I think I might take some dancing classes so I won’t reject your offer and have to watch you dance with someone else."

She glanced back as she spoke so she could see his face. Mauve watched Jael’s face and she could have sworn he looked happy.

"So, it did bother you."

"More like everyone got to dance with you and I didn’t."

"Everyone is an exaggeration, isn’t it? Besides, it isn’t too late." He moved one of his hands to her waist and left it there.

"Nope, I’d rather be prepared."

"I will gladly teach you how to dance," Louis chipped in.

Jael shot him a look that was capable of melting a mountain. Mauve didn’t miss this and maybe it was a way to get back at him.

She looked up at Louis with bright happy eyes, "Really?" Her voice was lighter than it needed to be. "I’d love that!"

"Absolutely not!" Jael interrupted. "If you need any dance lessons. I will take care of that."

Mauve would have sworn his grip on her waist tightened and she couldn’t help the smile that appeared across her face.

"Are you sure?" Louis pushed. "Won’t you be too busy?"

"Of course not." Jael turned to look at her, using his free hand to tuck her hair behind her ear so he could get a proper view of the side of her face.

"Or would you rather have Louis teach you?" Jael asked darkly.

Mauve knew there was only one right answer to this question and anything else would backfire in her face.

"I suppose it would be better if you taught me because you’re the reason I want to learn dancing in the first place."

"I guess, it settled then."

Mauve nodded and looked ahead. She thought the party looked a little bit scanty but it was hard to tell.

She was already getting tired at this point but she figured there was still a while to go.

"How long is this going to go on for?" She asked no one in particular.

"The party?" Jael asked.

Mauve nodded.

"Tired already?"

"Not really," she whispered. "But it will be nice to know when this will end."

"Just before the last meal," it was Louis who spoke.

"Alright," she whispered.

"Can you hold out?" Jael asked. "We can always leave if you want."

"I am not tired," she responded.

"If you say so but you don’t have to put up a strong front."

She nodded and leaned into him, taking advantage of the fact that he was willing to be her living seat.

The rest of the party passed out in a blur as Mauve zoned out during most of it.

The only thing that was pretty glaring was that Jael never left her again and he didn’t allow her to leave his side.

As much as she liked to complain, it was very comfortable being around him and the way he made her feel effortlessly safe was something she couldn’t explain.

When the party finally came to a close Mauve couldn’t even pretend she wasn’t happy to see it end. She doubted she would willingly attend one of those again. It was good to know she didn’t really miss anything by staying in her room.

"Shall we?" Jael asked.

"Where are you headed?" She asked.

"The dining hall," he announced.

"Okay," she whispered. She was famished and knew she would eat whatever was placed in front of her.

She tried to get off Jael’s legs by herself but he stopped her and brought her down himself.

He stood to his feet and stretched out his palm. Mauve accepted with a big smile.

He pulled her to himself and led her to the dining hall. Most of the Lords were already headed that way while some looked like they might not join them.

Mauve didn’t think much about this. She just walked beside Jael with her happy strut.

"You’re in a good mood," he whispered.

She nodded.

"I am glad you had fun."

"Well, it wasn’t all bad."

"That’s good."

"However, I will not be doing this again."

He threw his head back and laughed. "Who says you get a say," he mocked.

She looked at him with shock in her eyes, "You wouldn’t."

"The party was only bearable because you were there. So as long as I have to attend, you would too."

"Okay," she whispered. "If it’s for you, I guess I could."
