Chapter 547: 547. To Share

Mauve watched Jael dance with Sabrina, the only thought that crossed her mind was that he was a pretty good dancer and Sabrina did pretty well matching his steps.

The dance ended and like the crowd she found herself clapping with a huge smile on her face.

"I didn’t know he could dance like that," Louis commented, standing next to her.

"Neither did," she replied.

She wished she had taken up his offer to dance but she didn’t have the backbone to embarrass herself in front of the crowd.

She was glad she got to see him dance even though it was sadly in the arms of another woman but she rather it be Sabrina than anyone else.

Mauve suddenly froze as Sabrina walked away, someone was steadily approaching Jael. Her fiery red hair was hard to miss and her strut was equally alluring.

Mauve winced despite herself. She hoped Jael would decline and her heart fell further down her stomach when he didn’t.

Mauve tried to appreciate the dance but all she could think about was how good they looked together. Jael had told her there was nothing to worry about but Jevera made everything clear, everything that she wanted to pretend didn’t exist.

"I didn’t think you could get jealous," Louis said with a small laugh.

"I am not jealous," Mauve replied stubbornly.

"Lie to someone else. It’s so obvious. You had looked genuinely happy when Jael danced with Lady Sabrina but the instant Lady Jevera stepped up to him, your entire face and aura changed. You hate it enough to not care to hide."

"I would say hate is a strong word," she whispered.

"You’re not denying everything else?" Louis asked with a surprised tone.

"You won’t hesitate to call me out. Besides, anybody would react the same way I did, they have history."

"Do they now? Hmmm."

"You don’t know?" She asked.

"I am not exactly familiar with the details but to say I am completely unaware is a far stretch."

"I suppose it’s not exactly a secret and for the looks of things they were together for a long time," Mauve whispered.

"A decade, I heard."

"A decade!" Mauve yelled, turning around to look at Louis.

"Shhh..."

"Oops, I am sorry." She quickly covered her lips with her palms. She doubted she was loud enough to interrupt anything, the dance was still going on.

"But ten years is a long time," Mauve said as she brought her arms down. "I and Jael are barely ten months in."

"Does it bother you?" He asked.

"Their past relationship?" She confirmed.

"Yeah."

She shook her head, wondering if she should mention that Jael told her it was merely an arrangement.

"It still doesn’t mean I am completely immune to it. Just seeing them dance together is enough to bother me."

"You might want to get used to it though," Louis said.

"What?" Mauve asked, turning to look at him with a shocked expression.

"I don’t mean her in particular," he explained.

Mauve looked at him with a confused expression. "What are you talking about?"

Louis looked at her with a puzzled gaze. "Surely, you know."

"I do not, I thought you were on my side."

"I am. That’s why I am being so truthful."

"I don’t understand what you mean."

"A mate," he said with a long sigh.

"Oh," Mauve replied and turned away. "I see."

"You’re aware."

"Of course, you Lords never cease to remind me of my stand."

"Oh, someone else already mentioned it to you. May I ask who?"

Mauve sighed, "Lord Levaton."

"What did you tell him?"

"What’s there to tell?" She asked with a shrug.

"What’s your take on it? Would you let Jael take on a vampire mate because knowing him he’d ask you first."

"I don’t think I have that much power."

"You doubt yourself."

Mauve laughed, if she had that much power he would get a vampire mate in the first place. As much as she wanted to be understanding and helpful it was the one thing she knew she would only pretend to accept.

"You didn’t answer my question."

"My response isn’t important."

"Of course, it is."

"Coming from someone that soured my mood."

"It wasn’t my intention."

"Liar," Mauve accused.

"Would you have preferred I lied to you?" He asked.

"I don’t know. I try not to think about it."

"Well you have to and I still haven’t gotten my response."

Mauve sighed again, she had lost count of how many times she had sighed. "I will let him. Though I don’t think I can st..."

"Liar!" Louis interrupted.

"Is it that obvious?" She gave a sad chuckle.

"Yeah. The thought of sharing Jael makes you want to throw up."

"You have no idea," she said. "But I know I’ll do anything for him. I love him that much."

Mauve tasted bile as the words left her mouth. She hated Louis for what he said but she knew he wasn’t wrong.

Just because she didn’t want to think about it didn’t mean it would disappear. Jael would pick a vampire mate and she would have to accept that.

"That’s good to know," he replied. "I just wanted to hear your stance on it."

She scoffed, "Sometimes I hate your guts."

Louis laughed, "If it’s any consolation, you don’t have to worry about that any time soon."

"But it’s going to happen, won’t it?" She asked, looking up at him with sad eyes.

"I am afraid so," he whispered. His gaze softened as they rested on her face.

"I just hope it’s anyone else but Lady Jevera. I don’t think my heart would be able to take it."

Louis laughed, "I am sure you can make your request known to Jael, he will be sure to take it into consideration when he makes his decision."

Mauve simply nodded at Louis’s words. Though he might make light of the situation, it was her whole life. She wanted to be greedy and keep Jael all to herself but she has gotten more than she ever thought she would, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to share.

She watched Jael end the dance with Lady Jevera and started towards her. She adjusted in her seat, feeling her stomach knot.
