Chapter 539. Delimma

Chapter 539: 539. Delimma

Jael glared at Otis as he walked through the doors of his study. "I heard you wanted to see me," he whispered darkly. "I didn’t think I would have to call you for that to happen."

Otis’ expression didn’t change. He simply bowed his head and said, "Sire. I apologize. I should have known sunrise was the worst time to try to get an audience with you. I apologize for the disturbance."

"I couldn’t care less about your apology. What do you want?"

Otis slowly rose to a standing position. His eyes gave nothing away. He took a step closer and when he was just a few feet away from Jael’s desk.

"I am grateful for the great opportunity to get rid of Palers and I can clearly see the progress that has been made. Unfortunately, this will be the end of the journey for me in this direction."

Jael frowned, to say he didn’t see this coming was an understatement. "You’re leaving?" Jael asked.

"I am afraid, yes," Otis said but his expression didn’t look like he was sad to leave.

"Why?" Jael asked.

"I have to return to my estate. My Lord needs my services. The other guards shall remain and if there is any need Lord Seraphino is more than willing to send someone to replace me. I simply ask for permission to fulfill My Lord’s wishes."

Jael was silent for a minute. They would definitely feel Otis’ absence. Losing someone as strong as him was sure to put a dent in their firepower. However, it was a loss he was willing to take.

He knew Seraphino would try to get him back for losing the human but he didn’t think the Lord would take this approach.

"I see. You may do as you wish."

"Thank you, Sire. I intend to leave with Lord Seraphino so as soon as the party is over we shall be on our way the very next night."

"I don’t need the rest of the information. Unless there is anything else, you may leave."

"Thank you, Sire. Your graciousness knows no bounds." He gave one last bow before he turned around and headed for the door.

Jael didn’t know what to make of the situation. It truly seemed like all Otis was here for was to tell him about his plans to leave. It definitely explained why it was Otis and not Seraphino.

He looked out of his window. Mack should have made it out of the Nolands by now. He might even be able to make it to the party if he hurried back.

He didn’t care what would happen to the human but he was sure she would be safe as soon as she got out of Vampire Regions.

He pushed himself off the desk. He had a party to attend, something he wasn’t too pleased about.

***************

Otis knocked on Seraphino’s door and he got no response. It was obvious that Seraphino was in there but remained quiet.

Otis groaned and knocked again. "This is important, My Lord," he called out when he still didn’t get any response.

"Come in," a dry voice responded.

Otis walked in and was greeted with the smell of blood. He winced and instantly took pity on the poor guard who was the source of this. Not enough to do anything about it but enough to understand how painful it must be.

The guard was standing in the corner with lacerations all over his topless torso. With the fact that he wasn’t bleeding as profusely as he should, it must have been a while and the wounds were starting to close.

He looked away from him immediately and turned to look at Seraphino who was lying in his bed with nothing but a robe on.

He walked toward him and Otis heard a squish sound under his feet. He looked down and saw he had stepped on a pool of coagulated blood.

"Ewww," he replied.

He wiped his shoe on the shirt on the floor. It was safe to assume it belonged to the guard.

"What do you want?"

"I went to see the Primus," Otis said as he struggled to completely clean off all the blood from under his shoe. The last thing he wanted to do was leave a trail of blood as he made his way back to his room.

"Why?" Seraphino asked, turning to look at him for the first time.

"I told him I was leaving with you," he responded.

"Now why would you do something so foolish?" Seraphino asked, looking away from him.

"Because I figured the best time we could get to the human is during the party. It will be crowded and filled with a lot of Lord. It might not be easy but I am sure there might be more than a few opportunities to slip something in her drink or get close enough to touch her."

"I am listening," Seraphino replied, moving to a sitting position.

"How much of it do you have?" Otis asked.

"Enough to knock out an elephant."

"Wonderful, I can try to add one more person to increase our chances..."

"Make that two," Seraphino replied. "I am sure the father would be more than interested."

Otis chuckled, "I didn’t even say who."

"I can take a guess," he responded.

"I shall spare them the unnecessary details of what it’s really for."

"That would be better."

"Well then, I guess I am allowed to do what I need to do."

"If you need more hands and a scapegoat, you can use the shivering rat by the wall. After all, it’s his fault we are in this dilemma.

"I shall be on my way, should there be any development. I shan’t hesitate to let you know. May things be in our favor."

"I never believe in luck, you know this Otis," Seraphino said as he rolled back to his sleeping position. "I work towards what I want."

"Yes, My Lord."

"Scapegoat," Seraphino called without looking at him. "Clean this up. Should even the smell of your blood remain, I shall assume you’d want another round and I shall be more than happy to oblige."
