Chapter 529. End of the Meeting
Chapter 529: 529. End of the Meeting
Jael sat with his back against the backrest of his seat as he stared at nothing in particular. He couldn’t say how long the meeting has been going on but if he were asked, he would say too long.
So far all they have talked about was old matters that he already solved. The Lords and dwelling in the past.
The only worthwhile topic that has been brought up was the incident that occurred in both Lord Drusile’s estate and Lady Francine’s.
They had tried to discuss how to prevent this from happening again. They had come up with good solutions.
Someone had requested having a lookout and making sure the members of their estate who couldn’t fight didn’t wander.
Someone had also suggested fortifying their fences. Walls won’t keep Palers out but it will certainly delay them.
Also at the first sign of trouble, do not engage. Drop everything and run for safety. This also brought up the topic of having a safe section members of their community could run to.
This topic had ended hours ago and right now they were going on and on about the drug. Jael wasn’t paying attention but by the looks of things Kieran was handling it well. He wanted to leave.
He stifled a yawn as his eyes roamed and it came to rest in Lord Levaton. The Lord was staring at him peculiarly before he looked away. Jael didn’t like that.
Kieran soon dropped to his seat and the hall went silent. All eyes turned to Jael as they waited for him to speak.
Jael didn’t have anything to add. He didn’t care to add anything to this topic. He was sure that if he gave some input it would only fuel the Lord’s question.
"Is there anything else any of you would like to discuss? Pressing matters that would help make our current situation better."
He made sure to add the last part before some Lord brought up a topic that had nothing to do with anything.
"Yes," Lord Levaton replied and Jael frowned.
The Lord had been awfully quiet all evening. The fact that he was choosing to speak now could only mean it was something that was bound to annoy Jael.
"My liege," Lord Levaton started politely. His smile looked genuine but it annoyed Jael to no end.
"Lord Levaton," he whispered. "Speak."
"Thank you," he replied and nodded. "The issue I would like to bring up is something very important. I am sure each one of us here wonders about it every day and hope that someday you’ll give us an answer."
Lord Levaton paused dramatically and stared at Jael as if he was waiting for him to say something.
Jael gave in when the silence dragged on. "What would this issue be?" He asked, staring the Lord in the eye. His impatience, a partial scowl on his face.
"A mate. When do you intend to get one?"
Jael’s gaze darkened, it didn’t help that whispers erupted from every angle. Lord Levaton’s gaze never left Jael’s face.
Jael sighed, he knew better than to let his irritation get to him. It would only escalate things. At least no one has brought up Mauve yet that would definitely piss him off.
"As I have said before until we deal with the Palers issue, I shan’t be getting a mate, and bringing up the topic won’t change my mind," he replied.
"But you have been our Primus for almost a year now. Wouldn’t you say it’s about time you got a mate?" Lord Levaton added.
"Are you saying there is some sort of time limit?" Jael asked, his annoyance seeping out.
"No? Of course but it would be best to get this over with as soon as possible."
Jael caught his tongue before snapping. "I understand the concern and this is not something that I do not consider important but right now it would have to take a back seat and I hope you all will bear with me. We have a bigger war to fight and I don’t think I would be able to give it my all if I were to pick a mate now. I’d rather deal with each matter one at a time."
Jael caught the shocked look on Danag’s expression. The guard glanced at him in awe and Jael winced.
Lord Levaton nodded, "I guess if our Primus asks us to give him time, we have no option but to do that." He bowed and took his east.
Jael opened his mouth to speak when a voice yelled out. "The human is the reason he won’t pick a mate. He would rather deal with the likes of them than vampires."
Jael took a deep breath, Lord Phelan was getting too adept at saying things that made him want to dig his fingers into Phelan’s chest and pull his heart out.
It was Louis who spoke first, "You won’t speak such condescending words to our Primus. He has proven time and time again that Vampires are more important."
"Who are you? Lord Phelan attacked. "You haven’t been here in so long and somehow you think you know how things work."
"Lord Phelan," Lord Garth yelled. "If your goal is to disrupt the peaceful meeting then be rest assured that you have succeeded."
"Phelan," Jael said, purposefully leaving out his title. "To hear those words thrown at me time and time again is not only tiring but exhausting. I understand your fear but to say I have done nothing for vampires is a huge stretch. I’ll expect a proper apology to both I and Louis."
Jael stood to his feet and the Lords reciprocated his actions. They bowed as he headed for the doors. Jael didn’t look back as he walked out.
He walked to the stairs, his destination apparent. He found that he wasn’t even angry. He was just exhausted.
He stopped in front of Mauve’s room and frowned. He raised his hand to knock. Jael realized he hadn’t done this in a while but it felt rude to barge in when she had company. He almost laughed at this thought.
