Chapter 520. Your Highness

Chapter 520: 520. Your Highness

Mauve raised her hands to knock on the door to Jael’s study but his voice reached her before her knuckles could reach the door.

"Come in," his commanding voice said.

She swallowed and turned the handle while glancing and Mill who nodded and waved. Mauve closed the door with Mill on the other side.

"You don’t look very good," he replied as his gaze rested on her face.

"I saw Vae," she said and rushed to him. "She doesn’t look very good. She’s in such poor shape, I don’t think she’d last very long."

"Come here," he said, tapping his legs.

Mauve nodded and positioned herself on him. She knew she should complain about him always treating her like this but she would be lying if she said she didn’t enjoy it.

"She won’t have to deal with Seraphino for much longer," he whispered as she rested her head on his chest.

Her face brightened as she looked up at him, "Did you take care of it?" She asked.

Jael nodded and lightly touched her cheeks. "What did you do? Did you ask him and he just said okay?"

"Do you really want to know?" He asked.

"Well, yes but at the same time, not really. All that matters to me is that Vae is safe and well. I don’t really care about the schematics that would lead to that."

"Good, just leave it to me. I’ll deal with it."

She nodded and leaned into him. "Thank you. Also, I found out that Vae sort of agreed to this. Well, technically she didn’t know exactly what she was signing up for but she did it for her sick mother which is a bit ironic because Malcolm already promised me he would help her. He wasn’t supposed to ask for payment."

"Malcolm is your half-brother, I suppose." Mauve nodded.

"Do you think your brother had a hand in this?" He asked.

"No!" Mauve said confidently.

"You sound very sure," Jael said with a puzzled expression.

"I am," Mauve whispered, her Congo dwindling a little. "Malcolm wouldn’t have let this happen to her. I don’t think he knew about it."

"Well, it doesn’t change the current situation she’s in," Jael said.

"True but I was hoping if..." she shook her head. "No. When she returns, she could ask Malcolm to help her. I am sure he would, she should try to meet with him."

"Oh, you think he would do it?"

"Of course, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him."

Jael squinted his eyes and shook his head, "I highly doubt that. I would have gotten you back myself."

"What would you have done? Break into the castle?" She asked.

"Absolutely, it wouldn’t be the first time." He looked away from her for a second and then looked back with a smirk on his lips.

She laughed, "I don’t think it’s something you should announce so proudly but know that I would have let you break me out."

He closed the gap and kissed her softly on the lips. "That’s all I need to hear."

Mauve pulled away from him with a bright smile on her lips. "You have a big meeting today, right?" She asked.

"Yes, but it’s not until after the second meal. I certainly don’t want to talk about it. I am sure it will not go well."

"A lot is going on," Mauve added.

"Yeah," Jael said, absentmindedly.

Mauve nodded. She was sure the entire expenditure was exhausting to Jael and now she was adding the business with Vae into the mix.

"It’s just for a couple more days," he suddenly added, looking down at her face. "A few more days and all of this would be over."

Mauve nodded, "I know," she responded. She wasn’t impatient, she could wait. She could wait a month if she had to, just to be certain that everything would be back to normal in the end.

"Louis will be here soon, I need to have a word with him and Mack," he said.

"Oh," she whispered, lifting her head from his chest. "Do you want me to leave?"

"Do you mind?" He asked. "I need to have a private conversation with them."

"Of course not," she said starting to get up.

"Not yet," he said and held her down. "Not until they walk through that door, you’re not leaving."

She giggled, "As you wish, your highness."

"Say that again," he whispered.

"Your Highness?" She asked.

"Uh-hmm," he nodded.

She grinned, "Your Highness. Or would you like me to call you, Sire or My Liege?"

The smile on Jael’s face widened as his eyes roamed her face, watching her every move.

"You can call me, whatever you want," he said and moved to close the gap between but the knock interrupted.

She didn’t miss the disappointment that passed his face as he gave the order to come in.

Louis walked in with a loud sigh, "You know I am not your errand boy, right?"

"Well, too bad. You run errands pretty well."

"That’s not what I want to hear."

"Sire," Mack said from behind Louis. He walked forward and bowed his head.

"Mack," Jael said and Mauve pushed herself off his legs.

"What is this about now?" Louis asked, annoyed.

"You’ll know in a minute, don’t be so impatient."

Mauve walked around the desk and towards the door. She stopped when she got to where Louis stood and gave him a little curtsey.

"Thank you for earlier," she said and skipped to the door. She was outside before he could give a response.

Mauve closed the door with a soft click and jerked when she saw Mill standing not far off.

"Mill, what are you doing here? I thought you went away."

"I did but I came to tell you, Lady Sabrina just arrived and she is looking for you."

Mauve’s eyes widened, "She is?"

"Yes, she sent a servant and the servant found me. Would you like me to take you to her?" Mill asked.
