The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 514. Take on Anything
Chapter 514: 514. Take on Anything
"Don’t stare at me like that," Mauve whined as Jael sat on the bed waiting for Mill to finish with her hair.
"Why not?" He asked with a twinkle in his eyes.
"You know why?" She muttered as she caught his expression again in the mirror.
"I like that you have the same idea as I do, my little temptress," he called with a straight face.
"Jael." She covered her face with her palm but not before hearing Mill’s chuckle. She couldn’t believe he had called her that in front of Mill
"All done," Mill announced.
Mauve stood up and did a little spin in front of the mirror before walking towards Jael.
"What do you think?" She smiled at him.
"You know what I think," as he spoke, his eyes trailed her body.
She frowned at him and stretched out her hand to him, "We should go," she said.
He nodded and accepted her hand but instead of standing up, he pulled her into his lap and kissed her soundly on the lips.
He pulled away and looked her dead in the eyes. "I have been dying to do this all morning."
Mauve blinked as she tried to recover and then remembered Mill was in the corner.
She jumped off his legs, "We should go," she mumbled, looking to her feet.
"You’re right." Jael stood up. "We shouldn’t keep guests waiting. By the way, you look absolutely stunning."
Mauve turned away from him, "Thank you, you don’t look so bad yourself," she managed to say
"Sire," Mill bowed as Jael walked out of the room with Mauve in his arms.
She leaned onto him, hoping that some of his courage would seep into her. It was getting tiring to act happy but she knew she couldn’t look sad.
She couldn’t let Seraphino know his plan was working. She had already been terrified by him once, she couldn’t imagine what Vae was going through.
Not a lot of vampires made her skin crawl in fear and disgust but Seraphino managed to effortlessly do the two.
"Are you good?" He asked as they walked down the stairs.
She nodded as she leaned into his arm, she didn’t care that she was ruining her hair. She just wanted to be as close to him as possible.
"Also, as soon as you’ve reached your limit. Let me know I’ll get you out of the dining hall immediately."
She looked up at him, "Thank you," she whispered.
He smiled at her and Mauve’s heart leaped. How was it that she was so happy? Things were falling apart but somehow she believed they would be just fine just because Jael was standing next to her.
"You shouldn’t thank me yet," he said.
"I am not thanking you for that. I thank you for being here with me right now. You make me feel like I can take on anything."
"For you, I’ll take on anything."
She giggled and nodded. She knew he meant every word he spoke.
The guards bowed and opened the dining hall as they got close enough. Jael neither acknowledged them nor dismissed them, he just walked straight ahead pulling her with him.
She braced herself as they walked through the opened doors. She might be feeling confident with Jael by her side but she was still about to face a lot of Lords. It was nerve-racking.
"Sire," the unison greetings reached her ears.
Mauve didn’t miss the way Seraphino pulled Vae to her feet. Mauve winced but tried to keep her face as neutral as she could.
Jael led her to her seat before he took his own. The loud shuffling of chairs could be heard as they all returned to their seats.
Mauve watched as Seraphino pulled Vae to the ground. She couldn’t believe he was still pulling her around with a rope around her neck.
Surely, this wasn’t allowed. She winced as she thought deeply about it. None of the Lords had seemed bothered even Jael didn’t mention the leash.
Was this how they treated humans before the treaty? Mauve shivered a little. The idea that she might have ended up like Vae if Jael was just a little cruel sent cold down her spine.
"Are you okay?" He spoke directly to her. Mauve didn’t miss his frown.
"Yes," she forced out a smile. Somehow, she felt grateful to him again.
He winked and she giggled, looking away immediately. She didn’t want to draw any more attention to herself.
The servants were already serving out the dishes and she waited diligently for her turn.
She slowly turned her head in Vae’s direction to see Lord Seraphino looking at her.
Mauve didn’t back down. She glared at him, not hiding her disgust and hatred. He looked taken aback but for only a few seconds and then gave her the gnarliest smile she had ever seen.
As he held her gaze, he pulled on the rope and Vae coughed, suppressing a scream. Mauve’s eyes widened and she looked at Vae with horror and concern in her gaze.
She looked back to Seraphino and he smirked. If she thought he wasn’t being this mean on purpose, she had her answer now.
She couldn’t wait for Jael to get Vae far away from him. She’d like to see his expression then. She wanted to wring the smile away from his face by herself but unfortunately, she didn’t have the power to do that.
It was annoying that the only thing she could do was hope and pray but at least this time around, there was someone to rely on. Unlike when she was tossed here with no choice, Vae would only have to go through that for a little while.
She looked at Jael and he winked at her again. She couldn’t help the smile that escaped her lips.
Mauve looked away from him to keep from giving away too much through her expression and looked at her plate but not before catching Louis’ disapproving look.
