Chapter 512. None of Me Left
Chapter 512: 512. None of Me Left
Danag walked into the study and paused dramatically at the door. It was like he could tell something was wrong.
"How nice of you to join, Danag," Louis whispered.
"Lord Louis," he said with a bow. He took a step forward and bowed to Jael, "Sire, you called."
"I did, took you long enough."
"I apologize, I was busy with the Lords. The servant you sent was unaware of this and therefore, had a hard time finding me. Is there something you’d like me to do?"
"How would I get Vae out of Seraphino’s clutches?"
Danag froze before slowly raising his head. "I am so sorry, Sire but I am afraid I have no idea."
"Like Louis, you’re both useless."
"I apologize for not being of any help but if I may, I’d prefer you look in the other direction in this case. Lord Seraphino is trying to get your attention and he knows this is the best way to do it."
"Are you saying I should turn a blind eye?" Jael asked.
Danag nodded, "His demand would be preposterous."
"I don’t run from a fight, Danag. You should be very aware of that." Jael grinned. "If he wants my attention, he can have it."
"Jael, this is one of those times you shouldn’t engage," Louis muttered.
"At this point, it was a waste of my time to call both of you. I should have gone to bed and done as I wanted."
"It’s not a bad thing to seek counsel," Louis retorted. "It’s a bad thing when you don’t follow it after seeking it."
"You call this counsel?" Jael laughed. "All you both have offered is for me to sit with my tail tucked and hope that when Seraphino is bored enough, he’ll let her go on his own terms."
"Yes, that’s the best approach. Mauve is one thing if you add this maid to the mix, their opinions about you and humans will solidify," Danag tried to explain.
Jael glared at him. "I think you should know by now that I could care less what the Lords think about me."
"Sire, you..."
"Don’t waste your breath, Danag. His mind’s made up. I’ve been talking to him for a while now and he’s not going to sit this one out."
"I see," Danag bowed. "Whatever your plan is. I will help in every way I can."
"Now that’s a good idea. You finally get it, Danag. First off, you can start by making sure Seraphino comes to my study after the first meal. I shall try the amicable approach if that doesn’t work, then we’ll go with my original plan."
"Just go with the original plan," Louis mumbled. "Don’t pretend like you actually want this to end without any issues?"
"Why don’t you trust me, Louis?" Jael smirked as he rose to his feet.
"I trust you just as much as you trust me," he replied and rolled his neck.
"Are you going to help or not?" Jael asked, stopping in front of the couch Louis was sitting on.
"You make it sound like I have a choice. Whether I want to help or not, you’ll make me."
"It still doesn’t mean I don’t care about what you want."
"You don’t!"
"True but I am such a good leader that I am willing to hear your opinion."
"Fuck off! Just let me know what I need to do."
"Not yet. I will let you know soon enough," Jael replied and started for the door.
"Yes, Sire." Louis and Danag bowed simultaneously.
Jael slipped out of his study without making a sound. Not even the sound of the lock clicking in place could be heard.
Jael maintained his stealth walk as he made his way to his room. He had left Mauve asleep on the bed.
It had taken her a while to fall asleep, that’s why he had not been able to call for Danag and Louis earlier.
He turned the handle, wincing as it made a little squeak. It wasn’t loud enough but he didn’t want any reason for Mauve to wake up.
He had told her he would handle it and handle it, he shall. He would get Vae away from Seraphino by crook or cranny.
He knew he had to be careful. As much as he didn’t care what the Lords thought. He knew better than to actively instigate them.
It was bad enough that Lord Levaton was giving him the cold shoulder. If he should lose another ally, even he would start to get worried.
He needed their full cooperation when he needed to do things that concerned every vampire under his care. If he didn’t have enough on his side, that would prove to be a problem.
Still, he couldn’t picture the Lords picking another Primus. They had ten years to do it but didn’t.
Still, he couldn’t demand Seraphino let Vae go without putting Mauve in jeopardy and he wanted to avoid that.
He walked to the bed, his footsteps didn’t make any sound. He could hear her soft breathing as he walked closer to the bed. The steady sounds told him what he needed to know.
She was still fast asleep; this was a good sign. He rushed to her side, the urge to wrap her in his arms felt stronger than ever.
As soon as he dropped into the bed, Mauve rolled towards him. Jael raised a brow. He had been cautious. He had made sure to be careful but the instant he was on the bed, she had known.
"Mauve," he whispered but was met with soft snoring as she clung to him.
He chuckled, palming his face. She was fast asleep but the moment he had come to the bed, she had rushed to him.
"What am I going to do with you, Mauve?" He whispered and kissed her forehead. "At this rate, there would be none of me left to keep for myself."
He gathered her in his arms and she groaned in satisfaction. Her soft purr made him think of a cat. Jael chuckled, she was indeed as cute as feisty as one.
