The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 455. Louis’s Gratitude

Chapter 455: 455. Louis’s Gratitude

Mauve yawned herself awake. She sat up immediately and realized she was alone in bed. She didn’t think too much about it, Jael probably had something to do.

She got out of bed and stretched. Thankfully, her muscles ache less. She was sure her morning bath would rejuvenate her some more.

She pushed open the connecting door and walked into her room. By the way, her curtains were drawn, Mill has been here. She would most likely be back soon.

Mauve could easily see the marks on her skin. She blushed as she remembered what had transpired in bed. Hopefully, Mill would pretend not to see them.

Thankfully, she didn’t oversleep. She could still make it for the first meal and she expected Jael to be here in time to take her to eat.

Just as she predicted Jael walked into her room just as Mill finished up with her hair. The vampire pulled away from her and bowed to Jael.

"Right on time," he said as he walked further into her room.

"You should try knocking sometimes," she said and stood to her feet.

"Why?" He asked absentmindedly as he stared at her.

"Don’t ask why. Because it’s the thing to do."

"Hmm," he said and crossed the room to where she stood by the dresser in two long steps.

"Jael, are you even listening to me?"

"I am," he said and touched the side of her face.

"Jael," she called again.

"I promise, I am listening." His blue eyes sparkled a little as he took in her face.

"What did I say, then?"

"You said I should knock," he replied and pulled her closer to himself. "Just so you know. You don’t need to knock ever, you can barge into my room anytime you want."

She blushed lightly and nodded, "We should go."

"I suppose," he said and started to pull her toward the door.

"Thank you, Mill," Mauve said as they got to the door. She didn’t hear the vampire’s response as Jael shut the door.

She looked up at his face as they approached the dining hall. "Soooo?"

"So?" He gave her an unimpressed look.

"How did it go?"

"How did what go?"

"Jael, you know what I am talking about. How did it go with Louis?" She asked.

"As you would expect it to go," he said without meeting her gaze.

She squinted her eyes at him but gave up immediately. She knew better than to push it, he was already doing something he didn’t want to, and she didn’t have to know every little detail.

She should be glad it didn’t turn out to be a fight and he seemed to be in a good mood with her. She rested against his arm for the rest of the way.

Mauve caught sight of Louis as soon as she walked in. She couldn’t help the big smile that appeared on her face.

When she got closer he winked at her and mouthed the word, thanks. She giggled and made her way to her seat. She felt very glad that she was able to accomplish it.

She looked up at Jael to see him glaring at Louis. She lightly touched his arm that lay on the table, forcing him to look at her.

His expression softened as his eyes rested on her and she gave him a bright smile. She was proud of him and she wanted him to know that.

The fact that he was willing to do this even though he absolutely hated it, meant a lot to her. It erased whatever doubt she had.

Jael blinked at her, he looked a bit taken aback. He recovered and smiled a little. It was so fast that she would have missed it if she wasn’t paying attention.

She pulled her gaze away from him and concentrated on her meal. She was famished, to say the least.

Conversations during the first meal were almost nonexistent and Mauve knew it was because of the incident from last night. She noticed there was no sign of Kieran.

As quickly as the first meal started it ended and Jael led her out of the hall.

"I want to check the garden for a bit," she said as they walked out of the hall.

"Oh, okay. Unfortunately, I have letters to reply. You, get Mill," he pointed to one of the guards standing by the door.

"Of course, Sire." The guard bowed and fled to do Jael’s bidding.

"You can wait in your room until she comes."

Mauve nodded as they approached the stairs. She had almost forgotten she wasn’t supposed to roam around the castle alone.

"I will wait with you," he added.

"No, you don’t have to do that."

"I want to and when you’re done come to the study. We will go for the second meal together."

She nodded, trying hard not to show how happy she was. Things were still the same. Unfortunately, no sooner did they get to the door of her room than Mill appeared.

"Sire, you called for me." She bowed.

"Oh, Mill. You’re here. Mauve wants to check the garden. Keep her company and bring her to me when you’re done."

"As you wish, Sire."

Mauve watched him go before she and Mill headed in the opposite direction.

"I hope you weren’t busy," Mauve asked. "I don’t want to interrupt your work."

"No, of course not. You’re my priority."

Mauve nodded and they continued the rest of the journey in silence. She didn’t want to argue but she could tell Mill had been busy.

They got to the rooftop and Mauve made her way straight to the plants and flowers. She wasn’t really going to do much, she just wanted to see the flowers.

Besides, there was no way she could get any work done without staining her dress.

Mauve and Mill simultaneously turned their heads to the door leading to the roof as they heard loud clapping.

Louis walked toward them clapping. Mauve frowned at the ceremonial introduction. He didn’t stop until he was close enough.

"I lost," he said with a bright smile. "It has been a long time since I was happy about losing. Thank you."
