Chapter 454. Cut Your Limbs Off
Chapter 454: 454. Cut Your Limbs Off
Louis frowned at the knock on his door. The sun just set but the heat was still everywhere. Surely, Jael wasn’t expecting him to leave in such a situation.
He was standing by his bed trying to pack up what little things he could take. He intended to make his journey light.
He hasn’t been to the Xanthus estate for most of his life. He was sure Walter would be thrilled to have him back. He wished he could say the same.
He walked to the door and pulled it open. The servant jerked. "Lord Louis."
"Save the greeting and tell me what this is about." It was hard to control his voice. There was no reason to take it out on the servant.
"I am really sorry for the interruption but The Primus would like to see you in his study."
Louis raised a brow, "What?" It was the last thing he had expected to hear. He had thought the servant was here to chase him out of the castle.
"He asked me to come get you," the servant said, unsure of how to respond to Louis.
"Did he tell you why?" He asked.
"No."
"Tell him, I will be out of the castle in a few minutes. There is no reason to get his panties in a twist."
The servant looked horrified at Louis’ words and quickly snapped out of it. "The Primus said that regardless of what you might tell me, I must make sure you come to his study even if it costs me my life."
Louis blinked, "He told you that?"
"Not those exact words but he said to do everything to get you there."
Louis frowned, "Just what is going on?" Louis didn’t like the flare of hope, he must be out of his mind.
"I wish I had the answer, My Lord."
"You may go, I will go to him myself."
"I am afraid I can’t do that," the servant said with a bent head. "I have to escort you to the study."
"Huh?"
"Please do not be angry, My Lord."
"I am not angry. I am just slightly irritated. He’s already chasing me off; he doesn’t have to do this. Fine!" Louis stepped out of his room and closed the door loudly behind him.
"This way, Lord Louis." The servant still kept his head bent as he stretched out his hand.
"I know where the study is," Louis responded and went past the servant.
Typical of Jael to get on his nerves every step of the way. No amount of name-calling the potato head would make him feel better.
Louis headed for the stairs, taking two. He got to the floor in no time while the servant struggled to keep up.
Louis didn’t bother knocking as he got to the door. He just bent the handle and walked into the study.
"As usual, you lack manners," Jael said as soon as Louis entered.
Jael was standing facing the window and turned to look at Louis as he walked in. Jael slowly approached his desk, pulling back the seat.
"That’s my line," Louis said, stopping a few feet away from Jael. "I didn’t think you’d be the kind to call me up for goodbyes. I am sure that’s not your style."
"Cut the crap!" Jael slammed his palm on the desk as he sat down. "You know that’s not what this is about."
Louis frowned, "What do you mean?"
"How did you do it, Louis? What in heaven’s name did you tell her? It’s my own fault I shouldn’t have let you spend any minute in her presence."
"Would you slow down a minute? What the heck are you talking about?"
"Really after ruining my sleep, you’re going to play dumb."
"I am not playing dumb, I am confused. I think I know what you’re talking about but at the same time, I can’t believe it."
"I am not buying your charade and there is no need for it. You’ve got what you wanted. You get to stay at the castle."
Louis’ eyes widened ever so slightly before returning to their original shape. "Unbelievable," he said under his breath. "I can’t believe she did it."
"You can go unpack, whatever the hell you were doing. You don’t have to leave anymore."
"No," Louis said with a stern expression.
"What do you mean, no?" Jael asked in horror.
"I truly appreciate Mauve’s help and would never believe in a million years that she would achieve this feat. However, I’d rather not stay since you don’t want me to."
"Cut the bullshit! Since when did you care about my feelings? You have done exactly the opposite of what I want you to do and now you want to pull this card. You’re staying even if I have to cut your limbs off."
"Enough with the threats. Why does everything have to be a war with you? I can’t believe a nice, pretty girl like Mauve ended up with an ogre-like you."
"Keep her name out of your mouth and leave her alone. Stop feeding her nonsense."
"You don’t have to get defensive. I’m not trying to take her from you besides she’s so invested in your business that she doesn’t care about anything else. I am sure the only reason she cares this much about me is because she thinks I’m important to you. It’s almost laughable that someone as dogshit as you could find something so good."
"Watch your mouth, Louis."
"I apologize for my words, my liege." Louis bowed his head. "Thank you for your huge generosity in letting a no-good person like myself stay in your castle. I shall take my leave now and unpack."
Louis didn’t wait for Jael to respond as he fled the study and quickly made his way back to where he came from. He got to his room in no time, still in a daze about what had just transpired.
It was almost time for the first meal. He must give her his thanks then. He knew he owed her more than just thanks.
