The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 448. Magic
Chapter 448: 448. Magic
"Magic."
Mauve felt her excitement diminish. She couldn’t believe she had taken Louis seriously. "Don’t be ridiculous. You know that only exists in books."
"Isn’t it a book?" He asked.
"Are you messing with me?"
A soft knock threw her attention to the door. Mauve jerked but Louis looked unfazed. He stood to his full height and started for the door.
He pulled it open and revealed Mill. She blinked as her eyes rested on him, looking slightly confused.
"Lor..."
"Louis," he corrected. "Is something wrong?"
Mauve intensely watched the scene before her. Mill was significantly taller than her but in front of Louis, she looked smaller.
"Not particularly," she said and looked down. "Lord Kieran is here."
Louis frowned, "Isn’t that a little too fast?" He asked.
"I wouldn’t know but he is asking of you and I offered to come get you and take over watching Mauve."
She glanced to where Mauve was standing in the library and Mauve waved at Mill. The vampire smiled at her before returning her gaze to Louis.
"Is that so?" He asked but didn’t make any attempt to get out of her way so she could go into the library.
"Yeah, he is waiting for you and I was told the Primus would be back soon. The issue was resolved and now that Kieran is here we shouldn’t have any problems."
"Thank you for letting me know," he said, staring down at her.
She nodded and tried to go around him but Louis stubbornly refused to move. He could tell she was trying to get in.
"Erm, Lor..."
"Louis," he said and finally stepped aside.
"Thank you," Mill whispered and walked in. She rushed to where Mauve was and Mauve clung to her.
"I guess, I will take my leave. Enjoy your time together ladies," he gave them a bow and raising his head, he winked.
Mauve noticed Mill shuffling her feet. She didn’t think too much about it as she remembered she didn’t thank Louis for standing up for her later.
"Louis," she called and she would have sworn he glared at her.
He quickly covered his expression, "Yes, Mauve. What is it this time?"
"Thank you," she said, making sure to keep her expression bland. It was either that or she would be staring daggers.
He raised a brow looking confused, "For what?"
"Earlier at the dining hall?" She explained.
He gave her an unimpressed look. "You couldn’t have thanked me immediately after or after leaving the hall?" He asked.
"Take it or leave it!" She glared at him. It was her fault for being nice.
He grinned at her showing perfect white teeth before slipping out the door and closing it behind him.
"It’s impressive how you can talk to Lord Louis like that," Mill said.
"What?" She turned to the vampire.
"No, it’s the other way around. I can only talk to him like that because he allows it," she replied.
"Still," she said. "I can’t stop calling him by his title even though he says I can."
"Why not though?" Mauve asked with a frown.
"He is the Primus’ brother. He was adopted by the former Primus and his mate."
"Then technically you’re the same."
"Not really," Mill said. "We were just taken in and it turns out it was Lord Louis and the Primus’ idea. If it weren’t for them, we would be dead."
"Did you know about him before he came to the castle?" Mauve asked.
Mill shook her head. "Only bits and pieces. I was only a baby when he left."
"Wow, I didn’t exist."
Mill chuckled, "Don’t say it like that."
"Mill," Mauve suddenly called out.
"Yeah," she replied.
"Have you ever heard about Magic before?" Mauve asked.
"Magic?" Mill frowned. "You mean aside from the stories we hear. Are you trying to ask if Magic is real?"
She nodded.
"I don’t know. I’ve not seen anything like it, in all my years."
"Well, I wouldn’t say that. To us humans what you Vampire do is equivalent to magic. Your strength and immortality is unreal."
"Immortality is a far stretch. We die every day. Enough about the gloomy talk."
"You’re right."
"Is there something wrong though?" Mill asked. "It’s rare for you to ask the question."
"Nah, I saw it in a book and wondered about it."
"Oh," she said. "I am guessing you have plans to get some reading done."
"Not really. I’d rather go outside but I don’t think I can."
"Not tonight. Maybe tomorrow night if you want. Tonight’s a bit of a mess."
Mauve frowned, she had heard Mill tell her the situation had been resolved but she figured it wasn’t completely over yet.
"What happened?" She asked, worry etched over her face.
"Oh, it was a mess. One of the youngsters was attacked by a Paler. He will survive but," she groaned. "It’s a bit nasty."
"Oh my," Mauve brought her hands to her lips. "How did it happen?"
"I don’t really know the details, I’m afraid."
"I hope he is alright," Mauve said.
"Yeah, it will take a while but he will be fine eventually." She whispered.
Mauve nodded, she didn’t want to think of bad things happening but she knew it was bound to happen. All she could do was pray it was a disaster they could handle.
"Don’t look so glum. The guards would probably be off actively hunting Palers for a few days. This is the worst case ever."
Mauve nodded again, not sure how to respond. She would be lying if she said it didn’t dampen her mood. She hoped Jael was fine.
Mill shook her little, "Wipe that look off your face. Now let’s go get you a book to read. I am done for the day so I can keep you company for as long as you want," she grinned.
"Thank you, Mill," she replied and tried to brighten up but it was easier said than done. "But I don’t think I will be able to get any reading down today."
"If you have something else in mind, we can do that instead."
