Chapter 445. Louis’ Help
Chapter 445: 445. Louis’ Help
"Besides, it’s just a kiss," Jael said, his eyes watching her every move as she stood between his legs. One of his hands was on her waist while the other rested on her arm.
He was right but it didn’t make it easier. Suddenly, she remembered that she had something to ask him. She needed to be in his good graces.
Besides, he was her husband, she should be able to do something like this without feeling embarrassed. She closed her eyes and leaned forward.
She heard his sharp intake of breath as he leaned forward and kissed her. She tried to hold out as best as she could but the fact that Mill was in the corner of the room made it so much harder.
She pulled away in seconds.
"Mauve," Jael said. He didn’t hide the disappointment in his voice. "You could hardly call that a kiss."
"Well, it is." She said stubbornly, bending her head slightly. Of course, there was no way she would look him in the eye now.
"It isn’t," he replied. "A kiss is more like this."
Mauve made a soft sound as Jael pulled her to himself and kissed her hard and long. She melted in their hands immediately, her body reacting to his touch.
He broke the kiss and pulled away, leaving her breathless. "Now, that’s more like a kiss."
Mauve could only blink, still dazed from the encounter. She had not expected that. His hand on her waist was the only thing keeping her up as her legs were failing her.
"Or what do you think, Mill?" Jael asked, turning to Mill who stood by the dresser. "Which of us gave a proper kiss?"
Mauve’s eyes widened in horror. "Jael, don’t ask her that."
He chuckled, "I was merely teasing."
"Well, that’s enough fun." She said and tried to pull herself from his grasp but he held her steady.
"Are you angry?" He asked. She could tell he was really concerned about this.
"Nope but at this point, it is pretty obvious you’re trying to delay us on purpose."
"Was it that obvious?" He asked with a raised brow.
"Won’t you even deny it?" She asked in exasperation.
"Why would I? I’d rather have you all to myself than join them for the second meal. I am pretty sure I have stated that in more ways than one."
Mauve stopped fighting, her face beetroot red. "Please, Jael."
"Fine," he said and stood to his feet. "If you insist."
"Thank you," she said and tried to get out of his grasp but he held her steady.
"Not so fast. You better make it up to me later."
She frowned and looked up at him. It was pretty hard to do so with how close he was to her.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"Do you really want me to say it in Mill’s presence?"
Mauve’s eyes widened In horrified realization. "No, I understand."
He smirked down at her, "We should go."
She nodded and took a step forward following behind Jael as he led the way. They got to the dining hall without incident and as usual, they seemed to be the last ones to appear.
As soon as the doors to the dining hall were thrown open, Mauve was hit with silence. The kind that was obvious after a loud sound had been made.
She winced as their gazes turned to the door. Will she ever get used to this? As if Jael sensed her discomfort because he immediately pulled her closer to himself.
Mauve matched Jael’s steps and then reached the table. She got into her seat without delay and immediately noticed most of the vampires were missing.
Only Louis, Erick, Otis, and Haney seemed to be at the table. She looked around, certain she didn’t miss anything. Unsure of who to ask, she kept the question to herself.
She caught Louis’s eyes and he winked at her. He was definitely trying to provoke Jael.
She glared at him. How was she going to plead his case if this was his behavior? She would have to ignore it for the rest of the meal. No reason to get Jael all riled up.
She ate lunch in silence. There was barely any conversation but she couldn’t help but notice Otis’s glares.
It shouldn’t be any different than normal but it must be because they were less vampires than usual that it was easier for her to pay attention to it.
Halfway through the meal, she wished she had taken Jael’s offer to eat in his room.
At least he didn’t say anything but this was even worse.
"Otis," Louis’ voice suddenly said. "I know she is pretty but must you stare a hole through her head?"
Mauve heard a snicker and she knew without a doubt it came from Erick. She sent him a glare. She was sure he was laughing at her, not for her.
The question prompted Jael to raise his head even though Haney stopped chewing. Mauve noticed Jael’s expression change.
"Whatever do you mean?" Otis said, turning his gaze to Louis. Mauve noticed his gaze didn’t hold the hatred it had for her.
"You haven’t blinked once since she joined us at the table. Surely her looks can’t be that captivating?" He said with a straight face, his eyes didn’t waver as they held Otis’s gaze.
"You misunderstand," Otis said without offering further explanation.
Louis scoffed, "I am sure," he said without stressing the issue any further.
He returned to his meal as if he didn’t just complain about Otis staring at her and Mauve noticed Otis didn’t look in her direction anymore.
She sent Louis a grateful smile. Somehow she preferred how he handled this to how Jael would.
Jael would have made a mess of things but Louis had simply made it seem like Otis was admiring her and she was certain the vampire had hated that.
Otis didn’t like her one bit, the last thing he would want anyone to think was that he felt the opposite. He probably found that very insulting.
She didn’t care as long as he wasn’t staring at her anymore, that was all that mattered. She ate the rest of her meal in peace.
