Chapter 416. Ravage

Chapter 416: 416. Ravage

"That is good, I was worried you wouldn’t be able to get any sleep because of me," she said, her eyes held relief.

"You should never worry about that," he said and sat upright. "I sleep perfectly when you lay next to me."

She blushed a little. ’Perfectly’ was a stretch wasn’t it but she was glad he had gotten some rest, she could tell needed it.

He didn’t look any better than the night before but at least he didn’t look worse. He could have waited for her to reach the castle but here he was right next to her side.

"I am glad," he said.

He locked eyes with her as he spoke, stretching out his hand to touch her face. His finger grazed the side of her face and Mauve felt a shiver that reached her soul.

It was hard to tell if it was simply because he touched her or the temperature of his fingers had something to do with it or it was a little bit of both.

She leaned into his touch, letting him caress her. "You’re beautiful," Jael said, his eyes filled with an emotion she couldn’t describe.

Her eyes widened, he had never said that to her before. As much as wanted to not overthink the compliment, she couldn’t help it.

"Not right," she replied. "I am sure I stink." She looked down at her clothes as she spoke. Very soon it would be more than a full day since she had her last bath and by the looks of things that would be the case for two more nights.

"Maybe but it doesn’t make you less beautiful. I said you’re beautiful, not that you smell lovely."

Mauve jerked her head up to look at Jael with a shocked expression and her mouth agape. He smirked at her.

"Jael!" She cried and smacked him on the chest.

He caught her hands and held them to his chest. "I was merely teasing," he whispered.

Using her arms, he pulled her closer to himself and didn’t stop until she fell against him.

He adjusted and pulled himself so he had his back to the wall while she sat across his legs.

Mauve stopped struggling immediately. "You don’t make a joke about something like that," she pouted, refusing to look up at his face.

She was fighting the urge not to sniff herself because there might be some truth to what he was saying. Vampires did have a good sense of smell.

"I know and I apologize," he said and pulled her closer to him so she would rest on him properly. "But I couldn’t help it."

"Yes, you could have." She glared at him, her eyes finally meeting his eyes.

He held her gaze and Mauve found that she couldn’t look away. His gaze shifted, his eyes going to her lips once again and Mauve held her breath.

She would be lying if she said she didn’t want him to kiss her. It’s been so long, she wanted to feel his lips against hers again. She wondered if it would be just as she remembered or if it would be better.

Suddenly, his eyes strayed away from her face. "Does that hurt?" He asked.

"What?" She asked. Her brain was struggling to process the reason for the question.

She looked down at what he was referring to and saw that he was staring at her wrist.

"You’ve been twirling this for a while now. Does it hurt?" He asked and gently lifted the wrist in question.

Mauve winced a little, it did hurt more than usual. She didn’t even realize it. She had been too engrossed with Jael.

"Was it when I pulled you to me?" He asked, he looked really concerned.

"It must be from all the riding..."

"And I made it worse," he said, gently applying pressure on it.

She shook her head, "I doubt that."

"How badly does it hurt?" He asked, staring her hard in the face.

"Not too badly. It hurts just like the rest of my body." She rested on him. "I am sore, I am sure I will be fine if I get to sleep on a proper bed and can rest without doing anything strenuous. You don’t have to worry."

She didn’t realize she was touching him until his expression changed. That was when she realized she was trying to get rid of the frown between his brows.

It has been bothering her for a while now but she didn’t think she would actually do it.

"Sorry," she said and pulled her hand away but she could tell it was too late.

Jael’s eyes flashed and she would have sworn she felt something grow underneath her. He leaned closer to her, his lips just inches from her.

"Do you have any idea just how much control it is taking for me to keep my hands off you?" He growled slightly, she could see a peek of his fangs. "If you touch me like that, whatever control I have dissipates."

His eyes glimmered as they strayed to her lips and Mauve’s breath caught in her throat. She closed her eyes and leaned forward.

She couldn’t take another miss again, she wanted him to kiss her and she didn’t want anything to prevent that.

Jael swore, "Don’t look so willing, it is hard to control myself as it is. If you make it easy for me, I’ll lose even more control."

Her eyes flew open and she stared directly into his blue one. The soft light emanating from them drew her in.

Without hesitating, she closed the gap, her lips touching his cold ones and she heard Jael take a loud breath just as his arms wrapped hers.

Mauve could only gasp as he crushed her lips between his. His hunger was unlike anything she had ever tasted and she knew he would ravage her leaving nothing left.

Wasn’t it a bit concerning that she didn’t mind this at all? Wasn’t it weird that she would give him all of her if it would feed his hunger.
