Chapter 410. Vampire Don’t Blush

Chapter 410: 410. Vampire Don’t Blush

"Aren’t these all part of the Vampire Regions?" She looked up at him as she asked the question.

"They are, I suppose," he turned away and Mauve didn’t know better she would have thought he was blushing. But she was sure vampires didn’t blush.

"You see. Then what gave you the impression that I didn’t like it? You could have told me at least. I wouldn’t have gotten the wrong idea."

"Yeah, you’re right. I should have and I am sorry. None of this would have happened if I had come clean about it."

He squeezed her tighter to his body. She rested her head on the cradle of his neck, her forehead touched his bare skin. His cold skin felt soothing against her forehead. She missed this."

"Apology not accepted. I don’t think I have completely forgiven you just yet."

"Does it matter? As long as you stay in my arms, I will take that."

She pulled back and stared up at his face. "Are you really okay with me not forgiving you?"

"No," he said with seriousness. "However, I would be lying if I said I didn’t deserve it."

"You’re right," she said and punched him lightly. "You deserve it."

He grabbed her closed palm and held it to his chest. She blushed and pulled her palm away. She leaned towards him and rested her head against his chest.

"You can take as long as you need and make as many demands as you want. I will fulfill every one of them."

"Says the person that wouldn’t even let me sit by myself in the carriage."

"As long as it doesn’t include leaving me."

"Sounds like you want to keep me caged," she replied without missing a beat.

"No, I-I don’t. Don’t say that," she could hear the frustration in his voice. "That’s far from what I want to do."

She squinted her eyes at him and he looked at a loss for words.

"Are you sure about that? We had a big fight where you chased me out because you didn’t want me to leave."

"I don’t want to keep you caged either," he said.

"I believe you," she said and rested her head back on his chest.

Not that it mattered, right now she felt he could keep her caged as long as he wanted. Mauve shook her head, she shouldn’t be thinking like that.

She shouldn’t condone such behaviors from Jael. That’s why he had thought it was perfectly fine to make such demands.

She could see he was truly apologetic but she still had her doubts. Being separated from him had taken more toll on her than she had thought.

Nonetheless, that might be because of how they had separated. She wanted things to work, that much was certain.

But, there were still a lot of questions she had, and some things didn’t add up. He seemed truthful enough and she wondered if he would really not keep things from her this time.

"Did you really not attack the King’s castle because you wanted more blood?" She asked.

"Absolutely not. Where did you get that idea from?" He asked with an odd look.

"He told me," she whispered.

"Evan?" He asked with a puzzled expression.

"Yes," she replied.

"That sly..." he let the rest of his words drag out. "If he had time to make up a story, he could have at least sent a physician when you needed it the most." Jael spat out, he sounded very angry.

Mauve frowned as she looked at Jael, wondering what that had to do with anything. Did he ask her father for help? "What do you mean?" She asked.

"Don’t worry about it," he said. He looked like he had let something slip.

Mauve squinted her eyes, "Are you really going to give me that?" She asked with an annoyed tone.

Jael sighed, "No, I don’t want us to go down that path anymore. I don’t want any more misunderstandings."

She nodded her head, "Neither do I and I promise to tell you everything there is." She rested her head on his chest and drew imaginary circles on his chest.

"I wrote a letter to Evan asking for a physician when you were attacked by the Paler and he said I would have to figure that out myself as it wasn’t his job to deal with every little inconvenience."

Mauve raised her head at Jael’s words and looked at him with her mouth agape. There was no way her father could have said that. There was no difference with saying she could die for all he cared.

She was on her deathbed. If Jael hadn’t gotten a physician, she wouldn’t be here right now. She had known it wasn’t her father, she hadn’t even thought of him but she didn’t think Jael had gone as far as to ask him.

Mauve blinked as she felt a negative emotion crawl up her stomach. She had been willing to leave Jael, to give him up just to keep the facade that she had a good relationship with her father and he had been willing to let her die.

"I see," Mauve replied and folded into herself. She was having a hard time processing the words. She understood the meaning, the implication but she refused to believe it.

It made sense though that was the sort of thing her father could say. However, compared to when he called her embarrassing, this was much worse.

If she had been even a little bit confused about where she stood, she knew now. Oh, just how much she knew. Maybe it would have been better for him if she never existed.

She felt Jael’s arms tighten around her as he pulled her close, squeezing her into his body. He didn’t say a word, just held her to himself.

She could see why he had his suspicions enough to want to ask questions. No father treated their daughters like that.

Mauve didn’t cry, she wondered if it was because she was dazed or she had no more tears left to shed.
